Abstract

Eye strain (asthenopia) is a significant health issue among students in the Health Sciences Program at Jambi University. Most students experience symptoms such as eye pain, watery eyes, and headaches. These symptoms are often caused by excessive use of electronic devices for assignments, online lectures, and entertainment. This condition affects academic productivity and vision function. This study is a quantitative cross-sectional study. The sample size was 110 students from the Public Health Program at Jambi University, using stratified sampling. A DES-Q questionnaire was distributed to measure eye strain, and analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate (chi-square) methods with SPSS 25. The results showed that the duration of high and moderate intensity gadget use (p-value = 0.006) and the position of gadget use (p-value = 0.029) had a significant association with complaints of eye fatigue among students. Meanwhile, viewing distance from the device (p-value = 1.000) and eye rest (p-value = 0.769) did not show a relationship. There is a relationship between the duration and position of device use and complaints of eye fatigue among students in the Public Health Program at Jambi University.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze environmental health risks caused by carbon monoxide (CO) exposure among gas station operators in Kota Baru District, Jambi City, in 2026 using the Environmental Health Risk Assessment (EHRA) method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The research was conducted from January to February 2026 and involved 61 respondents from five gas stations: SPBU 24.361.70, 24.361.51, 24.361.04, 24.361.13, and 24.361.58. Data collection was carried out through direct measurement of CO concentration using the AS8700A CO meter, wind speed measurement using an anemometer, temperature and humidity measurement using a thermohygrometer, and structured interviews regarding exposure characteristics. The results revealed that two locations showed unsafe risk levels under realtime conditions, namely SPBU 24.361.04 with a Risk Quotient (RQ) value of 1.187 and SPBU 24.361.51 with an RQ value of 1.073, both exceeding the safe threshold (RQ>1). The highest CO concentration was recorded at SPBU 24.361.51, reaching 11.9443 mg/m³. The most dominant health complaints experienced by respondents were fatigue (54.1%) and dizziness (34.4%). Nevertheless, the 30-year lifetime risk projection indicated that all study locations remained within the safe category, with RQ values below 1.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are disorders of the muscular and skeletal systems commonly experienced by workers due to unergonomic work postures, repetitive movements, long work durations, and unsupportive physical work environments. Batik artisans are among the workers at risk of developing MSDs because batik-making activities are static, repetitive, and performed over long periods. This study aims to determine the influence of ergonomic and physical work environment factors on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among batik artisans in Danau Teluk District. This study used a quantitative method with an observational analytical cross-sectional design. The study was conducted among batik artisans in Danau Teluk District, Jambi City, with a sample of 40 respondents using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews, observations, temperature and lighting measurements, and assessment of work posture using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method and MSD complaints using the Nordic Body Map (NBM). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression at a 95% confidence interval. The study showed that 17 respondents (42.5%) experienced high-grade MSDs. There was a relationship between work posture (p-value = 0.001), work duration (p-value = 0.000), repetitive motion (p-value = 0.000), and lighting (p-value = 0.000) and the incidence of MSDs. Meanwhile, temperature had no relationship with the incidence of MSDs (p-value = 0.131). The results of the multivariate analysis showed that work posture was the most influential factor on the incidence of MSDs with a p-value = 0.006 and Exp(B) = 64.000. Ergonomic and physical work environment factors influence the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) among batik artisans in Danau Teluk District. Work posture is the dominant factor influencing the incidence of MSDs in batik artisans.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The working area of the Rawasari Health Center in Jambi City shows a trend of increasing dengue cases from year to year. This indicates that there may be other factors influencing the incidence of dengue, including physical environmental conditions and community behavior. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the presence of mosquito larvae in water reservoirs/containers, the action of hanging clothes, using mosquito repellent, cleaning water containers, disposing of waste items, and installing wire mesh with the incidence of dengue fever in the working area of the Rawasari Health Center in 2025. This research uses a quantitative study, with a case control design. The sample size consisted of 24 cases and 24 controls determined by matched case control study techniques based on age and gender. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets, and analyzed using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between the independent variables and the incidence of dengue fever. The results show that the presence of mosquito larvae in water storage containers (p-value 0.042), practices of cleaning water storage containers (p-value 0.020), actions to eliminate waste items (p-value 0.043), and the installation of screens or mosquito nets (p-value 0.004) are significantly related to the incidence of dengue fever. Conversely, other factors such as the habit of drying clothes and the use of mosquito repellent did not show a statistically significant relationship with dengue fever cases in the study population. There is a significant relationship between the actions of cleaning water storage places and installing wire mesh. Effective prevention requires active community involvement in maintaining environmental cleanliness and consistently implementing the 3M Plus practices.
