Abstract

This study investigates the role of Physical Education (PE) in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on those related to health, education, and gender equality. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research commenced with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving three expert Physical Education teachers to identify relevant sub-SDGs supported by PE. Insights from the FGD informed the development of a questionnaire designed to assess students’ perceptions of PE’s contribution to these goals. The survey was distributed to 280 male and 452 female high school students aged 16–18. Findings indicate that both male and female students perceive PE positively in relation to SDG achievement, with average scores of 3.86 for males and 3.84 for females. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U test revealed no significant gender differences (U = 64920, p = 0.555), indicating that both genders hold similar views regarding the importance of PE in supporting SDGs. The study concludes that PE is instrumental in promoting health, education, and gender equality, thereby contributing to the realization of the SDGs, with only minimal differences in perceptions between male and female students.

Abstract

Study Purpose. Basketball performance involves intermittent high-intensity activity requiring continuous interaction between anaerobic and aerobic energy systems. Although numerous studies have examined metabolic demands in basketball, findings remain fragmented when analyzed separately by playing position, phase of play, or competition level. This systematic review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on how energy system contributions vary across these three contextual dimensions. Materials and Methods. A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2015 and 2025. Following title abstract screening and full-text evaluation, 15 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in a qualitative synthesis. A meta-analysis was not performed due to substantial heterogeneity in study designs, outcome measures, and methodological approaches across the included studies. Results. The included studies predominantly investigated elite male basketball players, with fewer studies examining youth athletes and female players. Across studies, consistent patterns of energy system utilization were identified. Guards demonstrated the greatest reliance on ATP-PC and glycolytic systems due to frequent accelerations, changes of direction, and short-duration peak efforts. Forwards exhibited a mixed anaerobic–aerobic metabolic profile reflecting multifunctional tactical roles, whereas centers predominantly relied on the ATP-PC system associated with repeated jumping, physical contact, and explosive actions. Across game phases, fast-break and transition play were dominated by ATP-PC contribution, while prolonged half-court play showed increased glycolytic involvement. Conclusion. Energy system contributions in basketball vary systematically according to playing position, phase of play, and competition level. However, interpretation of these findings is limited by methodological heterogeneity and the indirect estimation of energy system contributions. Despite these limitations, the integrated synthesis provides a comprehensive framework to inform position-specific and context-sensitive conditioning strategies.

Abstract

The Taekwondo sports coaching system necessitates effective organisational management. However, managing a sports organisation unquestionably demands a suitable and accurate concept, one that will ultimately allow the sports organisation to accomplish its objectives. The purpose of this study was to examine the basic interpretation of historical aspects, development systems, management resources, and achievement development. The research method used in this study is qualitative descriptive research, employing a phenomenological research design. The research sample consists of 5 informants, including 1 club founder, 2 club executives, and 2 athlete coaches, selected for direct interviews. Data analysis involves (i) introduction and organization; (ii) coding and reduction; (iii) interpretation and representation. The findings revealed that the coaching system, management resources and Taekwondo achievement development at the Mahameru Club in Sukoharjo Regency were functioning effectively. The limitations of this study are the sample used and the scope of the study which is only one area. As a result, future research should compare and broaden the scope of the study by investigating the factors that influence the implementation of the coaching system, management resources, and achievement development, such as psychological, sociological, and environmental aspects for athletes. The conclusion of this research indicates that this research makes a notable contribution by delving into the uncharted territory of Taekwondo sports coaching at Mahameru Club. It not only fills a knowledge gap but also furnishes practical guidance for the improvement of coaching strategies.

Abstract

Background: Cognitive decline poses a major threat to independence and quality of life in older adults. Exercise is widely recognized as a non-pharmacological approach to preserve cognition, yet many studies overlook baseline cognitive status and seldom compare aerobic and resistance modalities. This gap limits clarity on which type of exercise is more effective in maintaining cognitive health. Research Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of aerobic walking exercise (AWE) and resistance exercise (RE) on cognitive function in older adults. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design was conducted with 45 participants (23 males, 22 females; aged 60–69 years). Using ordinal pairing to balance baseline scores, participants were assigned to AWE (n = 22) or RE (n = 23). Both groups completed 24 exercise sessions over eight weeks (three sessions per week). Cognitive function was assessed with the Indonesian version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-Ina) under single-blind conditions. Statistical analyses included paired t-tests (within-group) and one-way ANCOVA (between-group) at a 5% significance level. Findings/Results: Both interventions significantly improved cognitive function (P < 0.001). However, RE produced greater gains (mean increase 2.21 points, 11.99%) than AWE (mean increase 1.27 points, 7.06%), with a moderate effect size (ƞp² = 0.110; P < 0.05). Conclusion: Resistance exercise yields superior improvements in cognitive function compared to aerobic walking among older adults. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating resistance-based programs in community health initiatives, provided safety principles are ensured. Future research should extend to larger and more diverse populations, examine long-term effects through longitudinal designs, and evaluate applicability in individuals with comorbid conditions.

Abstract

Abstract: Inclusive physical education requires adaptive, evidence-based training strategies to address the commonly reported limitations in aerobic capacity among individuals with Cerebral Palsy. Although High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) are increasingly applied in adaptive physical activity and educational settings, their comparative effectiveness and pedagogical implications remain insufficiently synthesized. This study systematically reviewed and critically examined the effects of HIIT and MICT on aerobic capacity in individuals with Cerebral Palsy. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines using Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, and Google Scholar (2010–2025). From 286 identified records, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the qualitative synthesis. Outcomes related to aerobic capacity, cardiorespiratory fitness, and functional endurance were analyzed across educational, clinical, and adaptive physical activity contexts. The findings indicate that both HIIT and MICT consistently improve aerobic capacity, as reflected by VO₂max, VO₂peak, and functional endurance measures. HIIT provides greater time efficiency and higher physiological stimulus, resulting in relatively rapid aerobic adaptations, particularly in individuals with adequate functional capacity. In contrast, MICT produces more stable, safe, and sustainable improvements, supporting its suitability for long-term implementation in inclusive physical education. No evidence demonstrated the absolute superiority of either approach. Overall, the effectiveness of HIIT and MICT is context-dependent and influenced by functional level, exercise tolerance, and pedagogical objectives, supporting an integrative and progressive training strategy for individuals with Cerebral Palsy.
