Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the role of interpersonal communication and problem-solving strategies in improving the performance of foster parents in Islamic boarding schools. The main problem raised is the lack of effectiveness of foster parents due to communication barriers and internal conflict resolution. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method at the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School in the Ar Rumi area. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observations of kyai, foster parents, and students. The results of the study indicate that the pattern of interpersonal communication between kyai and foster parents takes place in the form of routine and structured two-way interactions, with kyai as the provider of direction and foster parents as the reporter. Problem solving strategies through mediation and counseling have proven effective in creating a harmonious foster atmosphere. In conclusion, good interpersonal communication and the right problem solving approach significantly improve the readiness and performance of foster parents in fostering students. This study contributes to strengthening the foster management system in the Islamic boarding school environment.

Abstract

This study explores teacher work resilience within the framework of emotional management grounded in pesantren local wisdom at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Jadid. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed with the Miles & Huberman model. The findings reveal four key dimensions strengthening teachers’ resilience. First, individual emotional management is enhanced through self-awareness training, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, enabling teachers to regulate emotions and foster conducive classroom environments. Second, pesantren values—such as dzikir, sholawat, and the exemplary guidance of kiai—nurture emotional stability, sincere motivation, and a religious work culture. Third, social and organizational support, reflected in halaqah, empathetic leadership, and the tradition of musyawarah, cultivates a harmonious work climate, reduces psychological burden, and reinforces solidarity. Fourth, professional competence development through problem-solving skills and proportional workload management improves both teaching quality and teacher well-being. This study concludes that teacher resilience in pesantren-based madrasahs emerges from the synergy of emotional management, local wisdom, social-organizational support, and professional competence. These findings provide theoretical contributions and practical implications for teacher development in faith-based educational institutions.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of organizational culture in Islamic educational institutions, with a specific focus on developing a quality-oriented learning environment aimed at enhancing both academic performance and character formation. Employing a qualitative approach through an ethnographic case study design, the research was conducted between 2024 and 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight key informants, six months of participatory observation, and analysis of institutional documents. Findings reveal that a tauhid-based cultural transformation successfully fostered a high-quality learning ecosystem through the synergy of three fundamental dimensions: the internalization of spiritual values as a foundation for strategic decision-making, transformational leadership that cultivates a shared vision and empowers stakeholders, and the integration of constructivist pedagogy through project- and inquiry-based learning models. Character development outcomes were equally notable, reflected in reduced disciplinary violations, improved consistency in religious practices, and heightened social empathy among students. This study contributes theoretically by introducing the concept of a Tauhid-Based Quality Learning Environment (TQLE)—a holistic framework that harmonizes academic excellence with Islamic character formation. Practically, it offers an implementable model for Islamic educational institutions seeking to embed spiritual values into sustainable quality education practices.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the motivation behind parental education in the Tengger Tribe Indigenous Community, located in Sukapura, Probolinggo. The Tengger Community faces a challenge in maintaining its traditional culture while providing children with opportunities to access increasingly formal education, which is essential in the modern world. In this context, parents in the community strive to preserve their values, customs, and religion, to provide education that can improve the quality of life for socioeconomically disadvantaged children. Approach: This study employs a qualitative design, utilizing case studies that involve in-depth interviews and observations to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of parental motivation. Research results indicate that the child’s participation influences parental motivation for education in the Community ethnic group, which involves balancing the preservation of culture and tradition with the demands of globalization and technological progress, in order to enhance welfare and the economy, while also striving to maintain community harmony.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the forms of student behavior management in schools and to explore how educational institutions transition from reactive disciplinary practices to positive, supportive approaches. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate five main strategies employed by teachers: stern reprimands, standing punishments, cleaning tasks, verbal appreciation, and praise. The first three represent traditional, reactive disciplinary methods that effectively manage immediate classroom disruptions but have limited impact on fostering long-term behavioral awareness. In contrast, verbal appreciation and praise reflect the initial implementation of positive reinforcement, promoting students’ confidence, responsiveness, and cooperation. The imbalance between punishment and reward practices highlights the lack of structured behavior management policies and the need for systematic educational management. The study concludes that schools are gradually shifting toward a more humanistic and proactive approach to behavior management. The implications emphasize the importance of clear written guidelines, teacher training to enhance competence in positive disciplinary strategies, and the development of a supportive school culture that integrates social-emotional learning and leadership principles to strengthen overall classroom management.
