Abstract

This article seeks to explore the relevance of Sufistic spirituality as a basis for moral ethics in preventing social misconduct, particularly through the integration of the value of ihsan within the realm of public morality. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach based on a textual analysis of the Qur’an and classical Sufism literature, this research finds that ihsan defined as spiritual awareness of God’s presence in every action is the core of Sufistic ethics capable of cultivating inner integrity, honesty, and social responsibility. When the value of ihsan is internalized within individuals and social structures, it serves as a preventive mechanism against corrupt behavior and other moral deviations. The Qur’anic ethical approach, rooted in the principles of tazkiyatun nafs (purification of the soul) and muraqabah (self-monitoring), demonstrates that moral reform requires not only a strong legal system but also profound spiritual cultivation. Thus, Sufistic spirituality offers a transcendental ethical paradigm relevant to the formation of a public morality that is clean, just, and oriented toward Divine consciousness.

Abstract

Education is the main foundation in building the character and identity of a nation, especially during the challenges of increasingly rapid globalization. This research aims to explore the integration of Islamic values and local wisdom through the Ngejot and Megibung traditions in Bali, which can enrich the educational curriculum and form a harmonious and tolerant student character. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive study with a literature review approach, which includes the analysis of texts and contexts related to the Ngejot and Megibung traditions and the Islamic values contained in them. This research also emphasizes the role of the community in preserving traditions as part of education based on local wisdom. The results of the study show that education based on local wisdom can improve students' understanding of cultural identity and relevant social values. The Ngejot and Megibung traditions not only function as social practices but also as practical educational tools in instilling the values of solidarity, tolerance, and cooperation. The study also identified challenges in integrating local and Islamic values into the educational curriculum, including a lack of understanding among education managers and the community. Therefore, this study recommends the development of a pedagogical integration model that prioritizes the interaction between Islamic values and Balinese Hindu traditions, as well as strategies to overcome existing challenges. These findings are expected to make a new contribution to the development of education that is inclusive and relevant to the local cultural context, as well as a reference for educators and policymakers in designing curricula rooted in local wisdom and Islamic values.

Abstract

Abstract

This article argues that the attitude of Indonesian mufassir is not always parallel in respond to the concept of Human Rights. This is shown from our discussion of three contextual issues in human rights: freedom of religion, freedom to find a mate, and death sentence, which are exemplified by comparing to the three Indonesian mufassir: Hamka’s Tafsir al-Azhar, Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy’s Tafsir al-Nur and Tafsir al-Bayan, and Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir Al-Mishbah. The article concludes: First, in respond to the human rights issues, Indonesian commentators tend to be responsive. All three exegetes denied those who claimed that Islam was spread with violence and those who opposed the death penalty. Second, on the relationship between human rights and Islam, the commentators have similarities and differences with human rights. Among these similarities, for example, is the issue of religious freedom. As for the issue of freedom to choose a mate and a death sentence, they are taking a different position from human rights. On the issue of death penalty, the commentators emphasize to not only looking from the side of the killer, but also from the right of the murder.
