Abstract

This study analyzed the population dynamics of mackerel scad (Decapterus macarellus) landed at the Sibolga Archipelago Fishing Port, North Sumatra, Indonesia, to assess growth, mortality, recruitment, and exploitation status. Length–frequency data from 200 specimens were analyzed using the FISAT II software. The asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) were estimated at 40.4 cm TL and 0.51 year⁻¹, respectively, indicating a moderately fast-growing species typical of tropical small pelagics. The total, natural, and fishing mortalities were 3.91, 1.08, and 2.84 year⁻¹, resulting in an exploitation rate (E = 0.73), which exceeds the optimum level (Eopt = 0.5), signifying overexploitation. Recruitment analysis showed two annual peaks (March–April and September–October), reflecting a bimodal spawning pattern. The length at first capture (Lc = 16.2 cm TL) was smaller than the length at first maturity (Lm ≈ 17.0 cm TL), suggesting premature harvesting. The yield-per-recruit model indicated E₀.₁ = 0.607 and Emax = 0.749, reinforcing that the stock is fully exploited. These findings underscore the urgent need to regulate fishing pressure through mesh-size adjustments and seasonal closures to sustain D. macarellus fisheries in western Indonesian waters.

Abstract

The coastal areas of Aceh Besar have high fisheries potential, but traditional fishermen using bagan boats in Gampong Lhok Layeun are facing declining catches due to technological limitations. The conventional lights used have limited light coverage and high fuel consumption. This service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of fishermen through education on energy-efficient underwater Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology as an alternative solution. The implementation method includes four stages: initial survey, socialisation, discussion, and evaluation and monitoring. The activity involved 25 participants consisting of fishermen, Panglima Laot, academics, and village officials. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding of underwater LED technology, with an average pre-test score of 57 increasing to 84 in the post-test. A total of 100% of participants expressed interest in adopting this technology, and showed high enthusiasm during the socialisation and discussion. This activity proves that participatory and educative approaches can strengthen traditional fisheries innovation at the local level.

Abstract

Penyebutan jaring insang oleh nelayan Tapanuli Tengah yaitu jaring salam merupakan alat tangkap yang digunakan untuk menangkap ikan pelagis kecil dengan ikan dominan tertangkap yaitu ikan kembung. Walaupun demikian, jenis-jenis ikan lainnya kadang tertangkap terkadang tidak, sehingga perlu dilakukan penelitian terkait komposisi hasil tangkapan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui kontruksi dan komposisi hasil tangkapan jaring salam nelayan Tapanuli Tengah. Pengumpulan data secara metode survei, dan analisis data menggunakan metode statistik deskriptif. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu konstruksi jaring salam umumnya sama dengan jaring insang lainnya yaitu terdiri dari badan jaring, pelampung dan pemberat, tali ris atas dan bawah, tali pemberat dan tali pelampung, serta pelampung tanda. Jenis ikan yang tertangkap adalah ikan kembung, ikan belanak, ikan gulamah, ikan deman, udang mantis, dan rajungan dengan kembung merupakan ikan yang dominan tertangkap.

Abstract

The Indonesian Government has implemented the Measured Fishing Policy (PIT) through Government Regulation No. 11 of 2023 as an effort toward sustainable fisheries management. This policy regulates measured fishing according to fish resource potential within each Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPNRI). The PIT policy has been applied in several regions, including Banda Aceh City, yet faces challenges such as limited port infrastructure, low local fishers’ awareness, and a lack of empirical data on its impacts on fishing productivity and welfare. This study aims to analyze changes in the productivity and income of tuna, skipjack, and frigate tuna fishers before and after PIT implementation in Banda Aceh. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining production and fishing effort data from the Kutaraja Ocean Fishing Port (PPS Kutaraja) with in-depth interviews with fishers and stakeholders. Results show that tuna production peaked in 2024 at 395.35 tons/year and was lowest in 2021 at 33,99 tons/year. Skipjack production reached 1.502,79 tons/year, while frigate tuna production was highest in 2024 and lowest in 2022 (75.15 tons/year). Income analysis revealed that purse seine fisher’s profits were influenced by vessel, engine, gear investments, and operational and maintenance costs. In conclusion, the PIT policy affects the dynamics of local fishers’ productivity and income, providing an empirical basis for strengthening sustainable fisheries policy at the local level.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution shifted production toward mechanization, significantly increasing fuel oil (BBM) dependency in Indonesia's fishing sector, particularly for lift net (bagan) operations. Bagan fishermen rely on generators (gensets) to power lamps that attract fish, yet the resulting exhaust emissions threaten environmental quality and climate stability. This study aims to analyze fuel consumption and emissions from gensets used in lift net fishing in Pagatan, South Kalimantan. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, primary data were collected through field observations of lift net units. The results revealed that one Lift net unit consumes approximately 1,000 liters of Pertalite per year, generating 2,300 kg of CO2 emissions annually. Collectively, the 200 units in Pagatan produced 460,000 kg of CO2 per year. These substantial emissions contribute significantly to air pollution and climate change, with CO2 levels reaching 700 ppm potentially impair human cognitive function and physiological health. These findings underscore the urgent need for a transition to eco-friendly alternative energy sources to support government programs in reducing pollution and mitigating climate change impacts in the fisheries sector.keywords: Carbon dioxide; Emissions; Fuel consumption; Generator, Lift net

Abstract

Ikan selar kuning (Selaroides leptolepis) merupakan salah satu sumber daya perikanan yang melimpah di Indonesia, terutama di wilayah perairan Selat Malaka.Walaupun hasil tangkapan sering di ddartkan di Pelabuhan Perikana Samudera Belawan, tren produktivitas tahunan menunujukkan penurunan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola musim penangkapan dan produktivitas ikan selar kuning yang didaratkan di PPS Belawan. Penilitian ini dilaksanakan pada bula April dan Mei 2024 di PPS Belawan. Data primer dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung dan wawancara dengan nelayan pengguna alat tangkap pukat cincin dan pukat tarik. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) yang telah distandarkan melalui Fishing Power Index (FPI), serta analisis Indeks Musim Penangkapan (IMP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produksi tertinggi terjadi pada tahun 2018 sebesar 24.646,12 ton dengan nilai CPUE 0,14 ton/trip, sedangkan produksi terendah terjadi pada tahun 2022 sebesar 936,44 ton dengan nilai CPUE 3,33 ton/trip. Beberapa faktor yang memengaruhi nilai CPUE antara lain jumlah trip penangkapan, jumlah anak buah kapal (ABK), jumlah umpan, ukuran kapal (GT), kekuatan mesin, dan jumlah bahan bakar. Berdasarkan analisis musim penangkapan, bulan Mei dikategorikan sebagai musim peralihan I dengan IMP sebesar 81,33%, sedangkan bulan Juni merupakan puncak musim penangkapan dengan IMP mencapai 147,61%. Penelitian ini menyarankan agar nelayan memanfaatkan musim puncak untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan hasil tangkapan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis komposisi hasil tangkapan utama dan tangkapan sampingan pada perikanan pancing tonda yang berpangkalan di Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera Bungus. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei 2025 dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif melalui pendekatan survei lapangan. Data primer dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung terhadap hasil tangkapan, wawancara dengan nelayan, serta dokumentasi, sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari literatur dan instansi terkait. Analisis data meliputi komposisi hasil tangkapan, proporsi tangkapan utama dan sampingan, serta identifikasi spesies dominan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi hasil tangkapan didominasi oleh ikan pelagis besar, terutama tuna dan cakalang. Proporsi tangkapan utama mencapai 97%, sedangkan tangkapan sampingan hanya sebesar 3%, yang menunjukkan tingkat selektivitas alat tangkap yang sangat tinggi. Spesies dominan adalah tuna (57,13%) dan cakalang (39,99%), yang secara kumulatif mencapai sekitar 97% dari total hasil tangkapan. Tangkapan sampingan seperti lemadang, tenggiri, dan tongkol memiliki kontribusi yang relatif kecil. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pancing tonda merupakan alat tangkap yang efisien dan ramah lingkungan, namun tetap memerlukan pengelolaan yang berkelanjutan untuk menjaga kelestarian sumber daya ikan pelagis.
