The data of this research are several conjuction which is appear in every chapter from Principle of Language Learning Language. To prove the hypothesis of explicitation based on Blum-Kulka (1986)  is also the aim of this research then the analysis about conjuntive relation is done based on Haliday and Hasan (1976). The result of this reaserach shown us that 1) The hypotheis is positive or the portion of explicitation is bigger (63,52%), Implicitation (28,93%), meaning change (7,54%). 2) Addition is 16 devices and omision 24 devices of conjuction are adopted by the translator. 3) translators applied explicitated to the four types of conjuction such as: additive (39,60% ), adversative (26,73% ), causal (10,89% ) and temporal (22,77%) and implicitated to the four types of conjuction additive (26,08% ), adversative (39,13% ), causal (23,91% ) and temporal (10,86%) while the meaning change on additive (66,66% ), adversative (33,33% ), causal (0% ) and temporal (0%). From the finding above, it is described that additive conjunction potrayed more explicit than other and adversative conjunction more implicit than the other while additive conjunction experiences more meaning change than the other types of conjuction.

Abstract

Cake application is an excellent English-learning tool for mastering English. The study aims to determine whether the Cake app affects students' vocabulary mastery. The present study used a quantitative method of experimental design. The data were collected from forty second-grade students at Junior High School (SMP) HKBP Sidorame Medan, Indonesia. The sample was divided into twenty students in the experimental group and twenty students in the control group, in which pre-and post-tests were given separately to each group and a vocabulary test was taken. The results demonstrate that the average pre-test score for the experimental group in this study was 42.8 points, while the average post-test score was 72. The average pre-test score for the control group was 42.65 points, while the average post-test score was 6.8. It was also found that Ha was accepted. However, Ho was rejected due to the fact that T-count > T-table = 4.41 > 1,686, indicating that this program is highly effective and helpful for learning English vocabulary. These findings suggest that traditional or existing methods may be less effective, highlighting the necessity for innovative approaches to vocabulary learning. Educational policymakers can use these findings to support decisions regarding the integration of successful programs into the curriculum, potentially leading to enhanced English language education standards. Furthermore, the results indicate a need for additional research to identify the specific elements of the program that most significantly impact its effectiveness. This further investigation could facilitate the refinement and optimization of the program to achieve even better outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the translation techniques and orientation applied by fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at HKBP Nommensen University in translating the narrative text The Legend of Lake Toba from English into Indonesian. Using a descriptive qualitative design supported by quantitative data, the study analyzed 24 students’ translations based on Molina and Albir’s (2002) translation techniques and Nida’s (1964) theory of formal and dynamic equivalence, following Miles and Huberman’s (1994) interactive model. The findings reveal ten translation techniques with 2,016 total occurrences. Literal Translation was dominant (65.63%), followed by Modulation (19.84%) and Amplification (8.09%), while other techniques appeared in minimal percentages. The predominance of Literal Translation indicates a strong source-oriented approach, particularly formal equivalence. Overall, students tend to prioritize structural accuracy over communicative naturalness, suggesting the need to strengthen their understanding of translation orientation and the balanced application of translation techniques in narrative texts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the translation methods used by Grade XI students of SMA Swasta Budi Utomo Medan and to determine the dominant method in translating an analytical exposition text from English into Indonesian. This study applied Larson’s (1984) translation theory, focusing on Form-Based, Communicative, and Idiomatic Translation. A descriptive qualitative design was employed. The data were obtained from the translations of 21 students based on a text entitled The Importance of Learning English, which was divided into 30 segments, resulting in 630 translation units. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman (2014). The findings revealed that Form-Based Translation was the most dominant method (352 occurrences; 55.9%), followed by Communicative Translation (240 occurrences; 38.1%) and Idiomatic Translation (38 occurrences; 6.0%). Furthermore, 13 students (61.9%) were categorized as predominantly form-based translators, while 8 students (38.1%) were communicative translators, and none were idiomatic. These findings indicate that students tend to prioritize source language structure rather than natural meaning in the target language, suggesting the need to enhance their communicative translation competence.
