Abstract

Abstract: Today's school students were digital learners who independently and proficiently used various Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in their daily lives. This Community Service revealed that there was a relationship between students' digital literacy and the school curriculum through negotiated learning pedagogies to increase student learning autonomy. The final result of this community service was expected to be able to link school learning with students' digital literacy, so that students independently acquired digital literacy outside of school and could develop autonomy in school learning. The method used in this community service was descriptive qualitative with a sample size of 50 adolescent students at SMP PKMI EFESUS AEK BATU, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The results of this study indicated that there was an increase in literacy for adolescent students from 4 aspects, namely information, communication, content creation, security, and problem solving so that students could distinguish appropriate and inappropriate information and this information could become accurate knowledge related to learning materials at school. Keywords: Digital Literacy; Internet Searching; Adolescent StudentAbstrak: Pelajar sekolah masa kini adalah pembelajar digital yang secara mandiri dan mahir menggunakan berbagai Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Abstract

Abstract:Matching phonemes (speech sounds) to graphemes (letters and letter combinations) was an important aspect of decoding (translating print to speech) and encoding (translating speech to print). However, most early childhood students did not receive explicit training in correspondence phonemography. Difficulties with accurate phoneme production and lack of understanding of sound symbol correspondences could make it difficult for students to: (1) identify pronunciation errors in general assessments and (2) provide a model of teaching English reading or provide remedial reading instructions. This community service examined the application of the distributed practice method in developing knowledge and phoneme-grapheme correspondence skills for early students. The sample of this study was 35 students aged 7-13 years in the village of semangat barusjahe tanah karo, North Sumatra. The test design consisting of pre-test and post-test was used to compare mass practice conditions (one 60 minute session) with conditionally distributed practice (four 15 minute sessions distributed over 4 weeks) to learn phonemes related to letters and letter combinations. The result of this community service was that students could improve their vocabulary and phonics skills orally and in writing by using English learning.

Abstract

English as a lingua franca required an in-depth understanding of the translation of noun phrases in medical terminology due to the complex nature of noun phrases and involving explanatory words, resulting in a lack of understanding regarding the equivalence of meaning in English. The focus of this community service was to improve understanding of noun phrases in medical texts by applying translation analysis techniques which include translation shifts at the unit, structure, category and intra-system levels. Qualitative data from sentences in English medical textbooks and their translations into Indonesian were used as a basis for analysis through content analysis methods and focus group discussions (FGD) to understand the process of changing meaning in translation. The research sample involved 14 undergraduate students of Pharmacy and D-III Midwifery semester V at STIKes Mitra Husada Medan, North Sumatra. The results of this community service contribute to increasing public health literacy, especially among students in the health sector, thereby enabling collaboration between two fields of science that mutually contribute to sustainable development.

Abstract

This research focused on complex conditional sentences in the Christian bible, employing truth-conditional semantics and syntactic analysis to uncover their theological messages. A qualitative study analyzed 20 verses, categorized into four types of conditional sentences according to Ferdinand de Saussure's syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations. It involved word analysis, structural classification, context correlation, synonymous exploration, and historical and theological consideration. The findings revealed several key insights. First, conditional sentences in the Christian bible predominantly featured compound-complex structures with an active voice, highlighting subjects and actions in religious verses. Second, they adhered to declarative formats, aligning with truth-telling principles in religious contexts. Third, complex structures and subordinate clauses conveyed conditional details, reasons, and situations, elaborating on the interplay between syntax and semantics. This research enriched our understanding of the relationship among verb forms, modal verbs, and diverse meanings within English conditional sentence types in the Christian bible. Fourth, this research had a significant social impact on human development from a theological perspective by enhancing spiritual growth, critical thinking, and ethical understanding. It promoted personal transformation and reflective faith, providing religious leaders with tools to interpret scripture more accurately. Additionally, the research clarified how biblical language communicated moral imperatives, supported ethical frameworks, and facilitated interfaith dialogue. Preserving theological heritage contributed to the holistic development of individuals and communities. Ultimately, this study aimed to ensure the Bible's relevance in shaping social behavior aligned with Christian teachings.
