Abstract

The problem of using Power System Stabilizer (PSS) in generator excitation is how to determine the optimal PSS parameter. To overcome these problems, the authors use a method of intelligent bats based algorithm to design PSS. Bat Algorithm is an algorithm that works based on bat behavior in search of food source. Correlation with this research is, food sources sought by bats represent as PSS parameters to be optimized. Bat's algorithm will work based on a specified destination function, namely Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE). In this research will be seen the deviation of velocity and rotor angle of each generator, in case of disturbance in bakaru generator. The analysis results show that the uncontrolled system produces a large overshoot oscillation, and after the addition of PSS oscillation control equipment can be muted. So that the overshoot and settling time of each generator can be reduced and the generator can quickly go to steady state condition

Abstract

The procedure is training and testing the nerves that will be made. Matlab software has a Neural Network tool, which in this study will be used. Load sampling data is used as input data for neural network training. As output / target load classification is used. Load classification method, which is 1 for TV load classification, 2 for fan load, 3 for iron load, 4 for water pump load, 5 for lamp load, 6 for dispenser load, and 7 for fan iron load combination. The total load is 6 single loads and 1 combination load. One load combination was chosen because, on the combination load characteristics after the fan has characteristics that are not the same as the others. Data sampling of the current of each load will be used as neural network training. Load data used is 30 samples or for 30 seconds, with every minute the data is taken. From the results of the training, it can be seen that the biggest training error is in the seventh data, namely the identification of the load on the classification of the fan-iron load. This is because the current pattern on the iron and fan with the iron or fan itself has almost the same characteristics. However, for this process networks will be used and then the PSO optimization method is used to reduce the error, in the next study. From the test results, it is shown that by varying the input current data of each load, the network has been able to identify well, even though in the data classification load 7, the load of the iron-fan combination still has a large error. This will be corrected in subsequent studies with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm optimization.

Abstract

AbstractChanges in load frequency greatly affect the power quality of renewable wind turbine energy sources with diesel. Hybrid power system is a network consisting of several renewable energy plants such as wind power, solar power, hydro power, and others. Some problems can increase the low frequency oscillations in the system, such as gain settings and small time constants of the non-optimal Automatic Voltage Regulator, long transmission lines so that their capabilities are weak (weak line). In some previous studies, the wind-diesel system is controlled by conventional Proportional, Integral, Derivative (PID) controllers, but the PID gain setting is still in the trial-error method, making it difficult to obtain optimal PID values. In this research, we proposed a method of optimizing PID parameters in wind-diesel by using intelligent method based on Differential Evolution (DEVO). The objective function of this research is to minimize Time Absolute Error (ITAE), so that the overshoot will be muted properly. Wind-diesel modeling uses the diagram of the transfer function of wind-diesel. From the analysis results obtained optimal PID parameters respectively, Kp = 79.9999, Ki = 59.9998, Kd = 9.9006. The smallest resulting overshoot is -7.932e-05 to 6.792e-10 pu where the smallest overshoot value is compared to other controller models. The frequency response obtained by optimal PID tuning will dampen the frequency oscillation due to load changes, indicated by small overshoot and fast settling time to steady state conditions.

Abstract

In this study, a diode characteristic testing will be conducted, namely the characteristics of forward bias and reverse bias using Multisim software. Diode components are mostly applied to electronic circuits, so a simulation is needed to determine the performance of the diode before it is applied to the circuit. The test to be carried out this time includes making a forward bias circuit and back bias on a diode, describing the characteristics of the diode, determining the diode's working point for a particular condition, and determining dc diode resistance in the forward bias and reverse bias. From the results of testing the forward bias characteristic, it can be seen that the silicon diode IN 4001 in forward bias increases the small current until the diode voltage (Vd) reaches its knee voltage (Vk) around 0.6 V - 0.7 V. After going through knee stress (Vk), then the increase in large currents. The workings of diodes like this can be said as diodes with deviant or biased currents. Whereas the reverse bias current is almost constant (almost close to zero) even though the voltage is increased continuously until it reaches a voltage of 50 V. How it works like this is called a diode with reverse current.

Abstract

This research proposes an additional controller for load frequency control at a micro hydro power plant using PID-SMES. The PID-SMES parameters are optimized using smart methods called Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which could find the optimal value of PID-SMES. In this paper four control approaches are compared which are P, PI, PID, SMES, and PID-SMES. From the simulation results, it can be obtained that overshoot of P controller is -0.0002193, with PI Controller is -0.0002183, with PD Controller is -0.0002139, with PID controller is -0.0002129, with SMES controller is -0.0001958, and with PID-SMES is -4.187e-05. ACO optimization results obtained fitness function value of 7.15e-09, with 50 iterations. The minimum value of the system performance function at each iteration is plotted on the convergence graph. In the simulation result, it can be concluded that the ACO algorithm could be quickly convergence on the 14th iteration or find the most optimal value at the 9th iteration. The PID-SMES controller proposed in this study has a significant influence in the damping of the oscillation of frequency deviation. Therefore, PID-SMES is appropriate to be applied to micro-hydro power plant.

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of generation cost optimization for thermal power plants in the Sulbagsel multimachine power system. An advanced swarm intelligence approach, the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), is employed as the primary optimization technique. WOA, inspired by the bubble-net hunting strategy of humpback whales, has emerged as a promising metaheuristic with strong capabilities in exploration and exploitation. The main objective of this study is to minimize thermal generation costs while ensuring effective performance under real system operating conditions. To provide a comparative benchmark, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is also applied to the same problem. Statistical evaluation is conducted to assess convergence behavior, accuracy, and consistency of both methods. The results indicate that WOA demonstrates superior balance between exploration and exploitation, leading to stable convergence and reliable solutions. Under peak daytime load conditions, PSO achieves a cost reduction of 23.02%, whereas the proposed WOA-based method achieves a comparable reduction of 23.78%. Although PSO yields a slightly higher cost saving, WOA demonstrates stronger robustness and statistical reliability across multiple trials. These findings confirm that WOA is a competitive alternative for generation cost optimization in complex multimachine systems, offering significant potential for future applications in economic dispatch problems with larger-scale renewable energy integration.

Abstract

This paper is proposed to demonstrate the implementation of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) for solving the optimal operation of the Integrated Electricity and Natural Gas System (IENGS). The MILP is used to realize an economical and reliable power electricity system based on Dynamic Optimal Power and Gas Flow (DOPGF) considering Take or Pay (TOP) agreements for natural gas. This method is simulated on the integrated 6-bus electricity and 6-node natural gas systems. By using MILP, the best costs for optimal operation of IENGS are obtained in three scenarios. The superiority of the MILP is validated by suppressing the increasing best cost for optimal operation to be below 10%. In the first case, the best cost is $735,405.37 without the TOP agreement. In the second scenario, the best cost ranges from $748,399.30 to $760,320.57 with the TOP agreement implemented in one-by-one generators, which is 1.77% to 3.39% higher than the first scenario. In the third case, the best cost is $791,833.04 with the TOP agreement in all of the generators, which is 7.67% higher than the first scenario. In addition, the MILP can perform the DOPGF for IENGS without violating the problem constraints regarding the load demand fulfillment and power system limitations in both coal-fired and gas-fired generators.
