Abstract

This study explores the potential of community-based tourism in Bili Bante, including aspects of natural beauty, cultural diversity, and ecotourism. The observations show that around 75% of the tourist areas in Bili Bante are still preserved with minimal environmental pollution, making it a potential destination for ecotourism development. In addition, the cultural diversity of the local community, including traditional traditions, traditional music, and handicrafts, can be a strong tourist attraction. The interviews with local people revealed that 60% support the development of community-based tourism to improve the local economy, although 40% are concerned about the negative impacts on the environment if tourism management is not carried out carefully. The main obstacles identified are inadequate infrastructure and lack of destination promotion. Based on these findings, this study recommends increasing investment in infrastructure development, training for local people, and developing more effective marketing strategies. In addition, clear regulations regarding natural resource management and environmental conservation must be enforced to support the sustainability of tourism development in Bili Bante.

Abstract

The rapid development of tourism has many negative consequences, one of which is the problem of waste. Plastic pollution has become a global issue whose impact is greatly felt in the tourism sector. Tourists are increasingly aware and concerned about environmental issues, and polluted destinations often lose their appeal. The purpose of this community service is to socialize the impact of plastic pollution on tourism to support quality and sustainable tourism. This workshop was held at Bumigora University in collaboration with the Sane Mare (a non-government organization). The approach used in this study is the community development method. There are three steps used in implementing activities, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. This study found that this activity is critical in increasing student awareness of the impact of plastic pollution as a step in supporting sustainable tourism. A joint commitment is needed from the community, tourism actors, and the government to reduce the use of plastic, strengthen the waste management system, and encourage responsible tourism behavior because plastic waste pollutes the sea, rivers, and tourist attractions.

Abstract

This study aims to map the trends and characteristics of special interest tourism research in Indonesia in the period 2020–2024. The method used is content analysis with a focus on six main aspects: number of publications per year, type of research, research subjects, tourism topics studied, data collection instruments, and data analysis methods. Data were obtained through a systematic search on Google Scholar on April 26, 2025 using the keyword "special interest tourism." From approximately 104,000 initial results, after filtering based on year of publication and title relevance, 74 data were obtained, of which only 42 articles were fully accessible and 34 of them were used as research samples. The results show fluctuations in publication trends, with significant spikes in 2023 and 2024. Qualitative research dominates, while quantitative and mixed methods are still minimal. The most frequently used instruments are observation sheets and triangulation, while common data analysis techniques include SWOT and qualitative descriptive. Government and tourists emerged as the most research subjects, reflecting a focus on tourist policies and experiences. The topics studied are very diverse, ranging from tourist behavior, environmental conservation, tourist villages, to tourism product innovation. This study concludes that special interest tourism is increasingly in demand as a field of study, but the methodological approach still tends to be exploratory and descriptive. It is recommended to strengthen quantitative and mixed-method methods and expand the focus of research on policy, creative economy, and sustainability. These results are expected to be an initial reference for researchers and stakeholders in developing more comprehensive special interest tourism research in the future.

Abstract

Abstract: The Batu Lumbang Mangrove Ecotourism area in Pemogan Village, Bali, demonstrates a successful transformation from a degraded coastal zone into a sustainable tourism destination through active collaboration among local communities, government agencies, and private sector partners. This study employs a qualitative case study approach, utilizing participatory observation and in-depth interviews to examine the implementation of sustainable tourism and the roles of key stakeholders. The findings reveal that community-led conservation efforts, environmental education-based attractions, and the development of eco-friendly mangrove-based products—such as syrup, sticks, tea, and eco-print batik—have significantly contributed to ecological restoration and local economic development. The integration of traditional knowledge, inclusive participation, and shared resource management forms the foundation of sustainability practices in this site. This model offers valuable insights for the development of community-based coastal ecotourism in other regions.

Abstract

Technological developments and digitalization have brought transformative changes to the global tourism industry landscape. From digital marketing, online reservations, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) based traveler experiences, to big data analytics for service personalization, the tourism sector is now heavily reliant on digital innovation. This phenomenon requires tourism education to adapt proactively to produce relevant and job-ready graduates. This research aims to identify and analyze the adaptation strategy of the tourism education curriculum in facing the challenges and opportunities posed by technological developments and digitalization. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was collected through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders (academics, industry practitioners, and alumni) as well as analysis of curriculum documents from several leading tourism educational institutions. The results of the study indicate that effective curriculum adaptation strategies include the integration of digital-oriented courses, improving lecturers' competencies in digital literacy, developing technology learning facilities, and strengthening collaboration with industry. The main challenges faced are resistance to change, resource limitations, and the dynamic pace of technological development. The implications of this study emphasize the urgency of adapting a sustainable curriculum to ensure the relevance of graduates in the increasingly digital tourism job market.

Abstract

Gebong Memarong Airabik Traditional Village possesses significant potential for development as a health tourism destination, leveraging its rich natural resources, cultural heritage, and traditional healing practices. This study aims to identify the village's health tourism appeal and examine the roles of key stakeholders, including the Bangka Regency Tourism Office, the Indonesian Tourism Actors Association (ASPI), PT Timah Tbk, local tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis), and indigenous communities. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through direct observation, interviews, and documentation analysis. Findings indicate that collaboration between stakeholders and the local community has played a critical role in promoting the village and improving local human resource capacity. The development of health tourism is centered on the use of herbal plants for traditional medicine, which aligns with the principles of sustainable tourism. However, regulatory challenges—particularly concerning land use zoning—remain a threat to the preservation of local wisdom and sustainable development. Ongoing efforts are addressing these issues through formal regulation and the promotion of herbal products and wellness services, such as scrubs, herbal drinks, retreats, and spas for both domestic and international markets. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating cultural values and traditional knowledge into tourism planning, while ensuring institutional support and policy alignment for long-term sustainability.
