Abstract

This community service activity aims to strengthen students’ academic publication capacity through scientific article writing training conducted in Lombok Barat. The training involved 10 students with diverse academic backgrounds and varying levels of writing experience, most of whom had limited exposure to scientific writing. The method applied was a participatory and practice-based approach, integrating conceptual explanation with direct writing exercises. The activity was conducted in one day through several stages, including needs identification, material delivery, guided writing practice, evaluation, and reflection. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ competencies, particularly in understanding the structure of scientific articles, developing academic arguments, and using formal academic language. All participants were able to produce initial drafts of scientific articles, which reflects an increase in both technical skills and academic confidence. Additionally, the training contributed to a shift in participants’ perceptions of scientific writing, from a complex task to a manageable and learnable process. This finding suggests that short-term, practice-oriented training can effectively enhance students’ academic literacy and support the development of sustainable academic writing skills.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Islamic economic values into character education within Islamic Religious Education (IRE) among students at private universities in Mataram, Indonesia. It responds to the need to move character education beyond normative religious instruction by connecting Islamic teachings with ethical economic awareness and students’ everyday practices. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected from lecturers, students, curriculum documents, and classroom learning activities through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically through coding, categorization, and interpretation to identify patterns of value integration. The findings show that honesty, trustworthiness (amanah), justice, responsibility, and economic self-reliance are integrated through contextual, reflective, and transformative learning strategies. These strategies link Islamic economic principles with students’ lived experiences, including consumption ethics, financial responsibility, entrepreneurship, and social concern. The integration is strengthened by lecturers’ moral exemplarity, curriculum design, and an academic environment that supports value internalization. The study concludes that IRE-based character education becomes more effective when Islamic values are embodied as ethical practices rather than transmitted as abstract norms. It contributes to an integrative model of Islamic character education in higher education.

Abstract

This study examines how tradition is adapted through creativity and innovation in the Sasak community’s Kecimol performance, with a focus on the Merpati Nusantara ensemble in Mataram. The research aims to identify how Kecimol, originally a traditional ensemble rooted in Cilokaq, has evolved into a performance that integrates modern instruments, cross-genre repertoires, portable stage designs, and the use of digital media. Using an ethnographic approach involving participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, the study highlights how the creativity of the artists and the active participation of the community as both audience and co-creators drive collective innovation. This innovation successfully preserves local identity while engaging with global trends. The adaptation demonstrates cultural resilience, sustaining the vitality of tradition amid modernization, despite intergenerational value tensions and negative stigmas. From a socio-economic perspective, Kecimol functions as an alternative income source, a social interaction platform, and a form of public entertainment. This research contributes theoretically by enriching studies on creativity and cultural adaptation, while providing practical insights for cultural preservation strategies, creative economy development, and community-based tourism. Overall, Kecimol exemplifies the Sasak community’s identity and the sustainability of traditional arts within the context of globalization.
