Abstract

The identity dynamics of a main character in a novel refer to how their sense of self, values, beliefs, and overall identity evolve throughout the narrative. These dynamics are shaped by psychological, emotional, and social factors, which influence how the character perceives themselves and is perceived by others. This process often occurs in response to the conflicts, experiences, or challenges the character faces. In literature, such transformations serve as powerful tools for examining broader societal themes, such as belonging, cultural assimilation, and personal growth. This research aims to analyze the identity dynamics of the main character in Kimchi Confessions by Xaviera Putri, exploring its implications for multicultural education in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative research method, this study uses a descriptive analysis approach to gain a deep understanding of the main character's identity development. The data source for this study is Kimchi Confessions, a novel inspired by Xaviera Putri’s personal experiences living in South Korea during her high school years. Published in 2023 by Gagas Media, the novel spans 200 pages. Data analysis is conducted using a discourse analysis approach to identify how the main character’s identity is represented throughout the narrative. The findings reveal that Xaviera’s experiences emphasize the importance of multicultural education in promoting cross-cultural understanding and inclusivity in Indonesia. This study highlights how literature can serve as a tool for fostering empathy and cultural awareness, suggesting that further research into identity dynamics in contemporary literature can enhance educational practices and societal integration.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan fungsi tindak tutur ekspresif yang muncul dalam percakapan terapeutik antara terapis dan pasien yang mengalami penyalahgunaan NAPZA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif untuk mengklasifikasikan bentuk dan fungsi tindak tutur ekspresif tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam percakapan terapeutik antara terapis dan pasien NAPZA terdapat berbagai bentuk tindak tutur, seperti tindak tutur langsung literal, tindak tutur langsung tidak literal, tindak tutur tidak langsung literal, dan tindak tutur tidak langsung tidak literal. Bentuk-bentuk tindak tutur ini kemudian dikelompokkan berdasarkan kalimat deklaratif, imperatif, interogatif, dan eksklamatif yang masing-masing memiliki fungsi tertentu. Pada penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa tindak tutur ekspresif memiliki peran penting dalam memotivasi pasien, meningkatkan kepercayaan diri, dan mendukung proses pemulihan pasien. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan praktik terapeutik serta memperkaya ilmu pengetahuan di bidang linguistik dan psikologi klinis. Selain itu, temuan ini dapat memberikan rekomendasi untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi para terapis, guna mendukung keberhasilan terapi pasien NAPZA.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini didasari analisis kebutuhan guru TK ABA dalam pelaporan hasil belajar dan perkembangan peserta diri. Untuk memberikan layanan pengabdian pada guru, kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam bentuk lokakarya. Materi kegiatan merupakan produk hasil penelitian pengembangan rapor integratif untuk TK ABA. Penggunaan rapor integratif dalam pelaporan hasil belajar menunjukkan kompetensi guru. Kompetensi yang dimaksud adalah pemenuhan kemampuan dalam merencanakan, melaksanakan, dan melaporkan hasil pembelajaran. Rapor integratif akan menjadi media dalam penyusunan rapor hasil belajar. Rapor integratif memuat hasil belajar intrakurikuler, projek penguatan profil pelajar Pancasila (P5), dan pencapaian Alislam dan kemuhamamdiyahan. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode lokakarya dan pendampingan. Lokakasya dilakukan dengan memberikan penjelasan penggunaan rapor integratif. Setelah penjelasan, semua peserta mempraktikkan penggunaannya. Untuk menyusun rapor integratif secara riil, pelaksana memberikan pendampingan untuk kesulitan dan kendala Teknik guru. Berdasarkan kegiatan, guru TK ABA memberikan respon sangat baik atas kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini. Beberapa respon adalah 1) rapor integratif sangat sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka, 2) rapor integratif yang tersistem menunjukkan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah, 3) rapor integratif dapat meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam proses pelaporan hasil belajar. Sebagai dampak kegiatan, rapor integratif ini akan digunakan di seluruh TK ABA di Jember. Para peserta lokakarya sebesar 85% merekomendasikan rapor integratif TK ABA untuk disebarluaskan ke seluruh TK ABA, tidak terbatas hanya di Jember. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan, rapor integratif ini bermanfaat dalam peningkatan kompetensi guru dan meningkatkan kualitas layanan sekolah.

Abstract

In the preparation of this study, the purpose of this study is to describe the application of the SQ3R teaching method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) in improving the reading ability of grade VII students at SMPN 3 Ambulu. The main problem identified is the low ability of students to understand reading texts, which is caused by the lack of interactive learning methods. The SQ3R method was chosen because of its systematic approach and proven to be effective in improving reading comprehension. The planning of this research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design with two cycles, which includes the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data was collected through observation and testing of learning outcomes, both pre-test and post-test. The application of this method also increases student involvement in the learning process and reading motivation. Thus, the SQ3R method can be recommended as an effective strategy to improve reading comprehension skills at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning module for biographical texts designed to improve the literacy of students in class X MAN 2 Jember. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), with the stages of needs analysis, module design, expert validation, field trials, and evaluation. This module is structured with a literacy-based approach that integrates interactive elements, such as discussion, reflective writing, and value analysis of biographical figures. The results of the study show that this module is feasible to use based on the validation of linguists, materials, and media, with a high average score on linguistics, material suitability, and design aspects. The modules developed are able to increase student involvement in learning, strengthen critical thinking skills, and connect learning of biographical texts with daily life. Thus, this module can be an effective and relevant learning tool to strengthen students' literacy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the language politeness of students at SMK Teknik Balung. The utterances taken are during teaching and learning activities and outside teaching and learning activities. This research uses qualitative method. The data and data sources are the speech of students in Balung technical vocational school which includes the maxims of wisdom, generosity, respect, simplicity, agreement and sympathy. The data collection techniques used are observation and documentation techniques in the form of free listening techniques, note taking, and recording techniques. Observation is done to find out whether the data source used is appropriate. Listening and recording techniques are used when collecting data. The recording technique was used to record the data. The data analysis is the intralingual pairing method with the comparative difference relation (HBB). The results of this study found the existence of the maxims of wisdom, generosity, respect, simplicity, agreement and sympathy. The data reflects that the students of SMK Teknik Balung have polite and well-mannered speech. The assumption given by others that students in SMK are not polite is wrong. The suggestions that can be given to future researchers are. Future researchers are expected to explain the factors that cause people to assume that students who have ethics are usually only high school students. Whereas vocational students also use polite language.

Abstract

Kemampuan dan keterampilan membaca menulis mutlak menjadi kompetensi yang harus dimiliki setiap guru. Kemampuan membaca dapat diukur dalam kegiatan berbicara dan menulis. Kemampuan menulis mencerminkan keterampilan berbahasa secara keseluruhan. Berdasarkan observasi, dibutuhkan kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis pada guru di desa Pakusari meliputi keterampilan menulis teks buku ajar dan artikel ilmiah.  Kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan ini merupakan rangkaian kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat (Abdimas) bertema literasi di Desa Pakusari mulai tahun 2017 hingga 2019. Hasil pelaksanaan Abdimas pada guru Sekolah Dasar dan Guru Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini di Desa Pakusari menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan menulis guru sudah baik. Luaran dalam kegiatan ini berupa buku cerita, buku bergambar, dan lembar kerja siswa menjadi bukti konkret keterampilan mereka. Namun, kurangnya motivasi, sarana, dan pembiasaan menulis menjadi hambatan dalam kegiatan menulis. Untuk itu, diperlukan kerja sama semua pihak agar kompetensi guru bisa terus menerus ditingkatkan. Kompetensi guru yang baik akan menjadi dasar dalam pengembangan pendidikan dan pembelajaran.Kata Kunci: menulis; kompetensi guru. Optimization of Teacher's Writing SkillsABSTRACTThe reading and writing skills have absolutely become competency that must be possessed by teachers. Reading ability can be measured through speaking and writing activities. Writing skills reflect overall language skills. Based on observations, training and mentoring activities are needed to improve writing skills of textbook and scientific articles for teachers in Pakusari . This training and mentoring activity is the series of Community Service (Abdimas) on literacy-based theme activities in Pakusari from 2017 to 2019.  This activity was implemented for teachers of Elementary school and Early Childhood Education in Pakusari.  The results of the implementation show that the teacher's writing competency is good. The teachers have been able to create story books, picture books, and student worksheets as the concrete evidence of their ability in writing skills. However, lack of motivation, tools, and habit of writing, have become obstacles in writing activities. For this reason, collaboration between all parties is needed so that teacher’s competencies can continuously be improved. Competent teacher is the basis in the development of education and learning.Key Words: teacher competencies; writing.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the potential mismatch between the readability level of sentences in the Smart and Smart Indonesian Language and Literature textbook and the cognitive abilities of Grade X high school/vocational high school students. The focus of this research is to analyze the readability level through syntax learning, with an emphasis on calculating the structure of long and short sentences. As an important step, this research uses a qualitative descriptive method with syntactic analysis of the Uncertain Direct Division (BUL) technique to dissect the structure and complexity of sentences. The main findings show that long sentences with complex structures and dense information tend to reduce the readability level, making it difficult for students to understand. Conversely, short sentences with a simple structure and conveying one main idea are proven to be more effective and easier to understand. The analysis also shows that breaking long sentences into two more concise sentences can significantly improve the clarity of meaning. In conclusion, the syntactic structure of sentences plays an important role in determining the readability of textbook texts, where the use of short, straightforward sentences is recommended to support an effective learning process. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya potensi ketidaksesuaian tingkat keterbacaan kalimat dalam buku teks Cerdas Cergas Berbahasa dan Bersastra Indonesia dengan kemampuan kognitif siswa SMA/SMK Kelas X. Fokus penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tingkat keterbacaan tersebut melalui kajian sintaksis, dengan menitikberatkan pada perbandingan struktur kalimat panjang dan kalimat pendek. Sebagai langkah penting, penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis sintaksis Bagi Unsur Langsung (BUL) untuk membedah struktur dan kompleksitas kalimat. Temuan utama menunjukkan bahwa kalimat panjang yang memiliki struktur kompleks dan padat informasi cenderung menurunkan tingkat keterbacaan, sehingga menyulitkan pemahaman siswa. Sebaliknya, kalimat pendek yang berstruktur sederhana dan menyampaikan satu gagasan utama terbukti lebih efektif dan mudah dipahami. Analisis juga membuktikan bahwa memecah kalimat panjang menjadi dua kalimat yang lebih ringkas dapat meningkatkan kejelasan makna secara signifikan. Kesimpulannya, struktur sintaksis kalimat memegang peranan krusial dalam menentukan keterbacaan buku teks, di mana penggunaan kalimat pendek yang lugas lebih direkomendasikan untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran yang efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of negotiation text learning integrated with local wisdom among tenth-grade students at SMAN Pakusari. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman, consisting of three main stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed that teachers incorporated local cultural contexts—such as community deliberations, traditional market transactions, and family interactions—into the negotiation text learning activities. This approach positively influenced students’ understanding, engagement, and character development by reinforcing cultural values such as politeness, mutual cooperation, and tolerance. Despite some challenges, including students' difficulties in distinguishing negotiation texts from other types and organizing complete text structures, the integration of local wisdom proved effective in enhancing the quality of Indonesian language learning. This research recommends the development of contextual teaching materials based on local culture to improve literacy while preserving cultural values in education.
