Abstract

Horticultural crops have high economic value because of its high price and short gestation period. Several vegetables can be cultivated several times in a year, mainly in tropical regions where the growing season is not restricted by winter. The study calculates the costs, revenue, income, and profit of scallioncultivation, analyze it s feasibility, and excavate the farmer problemsduring cultivation . The average total cost per farm is IDR 20,448,405.55. The farmer producesas much as 1833.33 kg per farm and generates revenue IDR 33,383,333.33 per farm . The gross revenueand profit are IDR 15,408,173 and IDR 1,934,927.78 per farm per season, in that order. The farming is feasible as the RCR is 1. 63. The field survey also identifies that resistant pests and disease infestation are the main problem. They are hardly eradicated with common pesticide.

Abstract

This study is aimed to know the determinated of production and it risk of paddy farming in the irrigation and non irrigation areas with the determinants of those variables. The proposed hypotheses are (1) the factors influencing the production and it risk production are crop area, seed, fertilizer, labor, superior seed and irrigation areas, (2) the risk of production of irrigated paddy farming are lower than the one of the non irrigated paddy farming. The data used are primary and secondary data. The primary data were obtained by doing some interviews with 80 randomly choosed rice farmers at two subdistricts of Kabupaten Banjar. The characteristics of farmers and the use of the production infrastructures were also observed. The analysis methodology used are multiple regression with Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and the Coefficient of Variation (CV). The results show that crop area, seed, urea, KCl and ponska influence to the production. KCl, ponska, pesticide, labor and irrigation influencing the production risk. The risk of production at the irrigated areas is lower than the risk at the non irrigated areas wtih CV of them are 0.77 and 0.83, respectively.

Abstract

The study is expected to: (1) calculate the cost, revenue, and the profit of siam orange farming; (2) determine the farm feasibility by using revenue cost ratio (RCR) and profit rate; and (3) excavate the problem faced on the cultivation The study was conducted in Oesa Karang Bunga and Desa Karang Indah, Kecamatan Mandastana Kabupaten Barito Kuala The respondents were taken and distinguished based their land holding, i.e.: 25 farmers who owned 2 hectares of land, and 5 farmers who have less than 2 hectares. The study exposes that the average total cost IDR 12.77 mill ion per hectare, average revenue is IDR 49.96 million per hectare, and average profit is is IDR 36.19 milli on per hectare. The RCR value is 3. 84 which mean that siam orange cultivation is financially feasible since the RCR value is greater than 1.00. The profi t rate is 2.84%, much higher that fruit pric e inflation which accounted 0.0891% in Banjarmasin. Thus, the orange cultivation is financially feasible based on both RCR and profit rate criteria. However, several problems should be settled include the increase of pest and disease attack caused by unpredictable rainy season, difficulty in finding hired labors in busy season, and the lack of financial support.
