Abstract

This research was made to determine the effect of defense management on national interests using the mixed methods approach. Qualitative data are analyzed using NVivo 12, while quantitative data uses SEM-PLS 4 software to obtain robust and reliable findings. The results showed that defense management reengineering had a significant effect on the realization of national interests in overcoming separatists in Papua. Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability values that show high internal consistency. Average Variance Extracted (AVE) of more than 0.50, confirming the convergence of good indicators. The evaluation of the structural model shows a significant relationship between the engineering management of defense and national interests (the path coefficient = 0.661, p-value = 0.000), with an R-square value of 0.437, which shows moderate influence. NVivo 12 analysis reveals a major factor in strengthening national interests, including logistical readiness, interoperability between units, and local communities in handling separatism. However, there are limitations such as budget constraints, multidimensional threat complexity, and lack of cross-sector coordination that hamper optimal implementation. Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA) shows that although engineering management of defense has a significant effect on national interests, its performance still needs to be improved. This study contributes originality by integrating SEM-PLS and NVivo to provide a holistic perspective and emphasize the need for more adaptive defense reengineering management to increase the effectiveness of defense strategies in dealing with separatist threats.

Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, the structure and mechanical properties of Weave Carbon Fiber and Chopped Carbon Fiber are compared. Both of these carbon fibers are used as composite materials for defense equipment and automotive materials applications. Weave Carbon Fiber is a regular woven carbon fiber structure, which provides high tensile strength and elasticity, making it suitable for applications that require structural stability and balance as well as resistance to deformation. On the other hand, Chopped Carbon Fiber is short fibers entangled in the matrix and distributed randomly so that it has a better level of impact resistance but lower tensile strength. 2D manufacturing involves tensile testing, flexural testing, impact testing, and hardness measurements Strain 2D Weave Carbon Fiber has a strength of up to 500 MPa and an elastic modulus of up to 25 GPa, making it suitable for applications that require high mechanical strength Fiber fraction test Chopped Carbon Fiber shows the highest fiber fraction impact resistance of 1668 J/m at 8% fiber fraction but decreases at high fiber fraction. Weave Carbon Fiber has small deflection and good load resistance compared to Chopped Carbon Fiber. This journal can provide insight into the selection of the right material for industries that require high-strength but also lightweight materials. As planned, the selection of such materials is largely determined by the specific application desired.

Abstract

Corrosion in metal alloys such as aluminum and carbon steel poses a major challenge in industries like aerospace, marine, and automotive, where such materials are frequently exposed to harsh environments. Hydrophobic coatings have emerged as promising solutions to enhance corrosion resistance. Among them, sol-gel and silica-PDMS coatings stand out due to their specific advantages. Sol-gel coatings are known for their excellent corrosion and erosion resistance, strong adhesion, and high mechanical durability, making them suitable for aggressive environments. On the other hand, silica-PDMS coatings provide superior hydrophobicity, ease of application, and flexibility, though with moderate corrosion resistance. This paper compares the performance of both coatings in terms of their corrosion and erosion resistance, application methods, and environmental suitability. The findings indicate that sol-gel coatings outperform silica-PDMS coatings in corrosion and erosion resistance, while silica-PDMS is more favorable for applications requiring high water repellency but in less corrosive conditions. Future research is recommended to optimize the formulation of both coatings and investigate hybrid solutions that combine the strengths of each material.

Abstract

Armored vehicles require materials that can provide high protection from ballistic and explosive threats, and have a light weight to increase mobility. This study aims to develop metal-ceramic hybrid composites and polymer foam composites reinforced with OPEFB (Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches) fibers with varying concentrations of Al2O3 ( Aluminum Oxide). This combination was tested to assess mechanical strength, ballistic resistance, and energy absorption capabilities from impacts and shock waves. The results showed that the composite using a 10% Al2O3 concentration variation provided the best balance between strength and light weight. The use of these two types of composites is expected to increase the mobility and protection of armored vehicles.

Abstract

Throughout the history of warfare, the need for hard military equipment could not be replaced even in prehistoric times. Humans mostly used iron helmets or steel armor to protect the human body from attackers. In the era of World War 1, humans created tanks with thick armor and this technology is still widely used. In its development, after the Vietnam war, the need for advanced materials that can absorb radar radio waves to make military equipment undetectable by radar in the current war is very high, this can be seen in many stealth equipment programs such as the joint strikefighter, Nighthawk, Stealth Ship and many more. Departing from this motivation, further discussion is needed about radar-absorbing materials in this case cerium oxide into boron carbide as a material that is not only super hard but also stealth. In this journal, several literatures are processed to hypothesize whether the doping technique of the two materials will become a promising advanced military material without reducing its strength for further experiments. After the literature study, it can be concluded that there are still additional materials to create super hard and stealth materials such as carbon nanofiber.

Abstract

Propellant production is one of the priority programs in the development of the Indonesia defense industry. One of the main components in double-base propellant is nitrocellulose, which currently relies on imports. With the increasing demand for nitrocellulose, it is crucial for Indonesia to achieve self-sufficiency in its production to support the defense industry. This study aims to identify the potential of agricultural waste as a raw material source for nitrocellulose. The method used is a literature review (meta-analysis) of various references discussing agricultural waste that has the potential to produce nitrocellulose. The results show that several agricultural wastes, such as sago fiber waste, commercial pulp, ramie fiber, Water Hyacinth, and beema bamboo have high cellulose content and potential to be used as raw materials for nitrocellulose. Further research is needed to maximize the nitrocellulose yield from agricultural waste, thus supporting self-sufficiency in propellant production in Indonesia.

Abstract

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a serious threat to the stability and security of military satellites that play an important role in communication, surveillance, and reconnaissance. However, there are various threats such as EMI that can cause damage to electronic devices and disrupt data transmission. Aluminum has long been used as an EMI shielding material due to its good conductivity and relatively low cost, but its effectiveness decreases at high frequencies, making it less ideal for applications that require shielding over a wide frequency spectrum. This study evaluates the effectiveness of copolymers with conductive fillers (such as MXene and Carbon Nanotubes) and metal particles (nickel and copper) compared to aluminum as EMI shielding materials in military satellite applications. Tests were carried out in the frequency range of 0.1 to 3 GHz using the anechoic chamber method and using a vector network analyzer (VNA) to measure transmission and reflection parameters. The results showed that copolymers with conductive fillers achieved Shielding Effectiveness (SE) of 30–50 dB at high frequencies, while metal particles such as nickel and copper showed SE of 40–60 dB at low to mid frequencies, while aluminum had SE of up to 70 dB but limited to low frequencies. Copolymers with metal particles, especially with MXene fillers, provide optimal performance over a wide frequency spectrum with additional advantages of lighter weight and good corrosion resistance. These findings demonstrate the potential of copolymers with conductive fillers as more effective and efficient EMI shielding materials for military satellite applications in space environments, with the ability to shield high and low frequency spectrums comprehensively.
