Abstract

This study aims to identify evidence-based differentiated instruction (DI) strategies that enhance reading comprehension in elementary education. The research employed a systematic literature review following the PRISMA guidelines. A total of 16 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025 were retrieved from the Scopus database based on their relevance and methodological rigor. The data were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis and cross-study comparison to identify effective strategies and patterns of implementation. The findings indicate that differentiated instruction consistently improves reading comprehension outcomes, with reported gains ranging from 10% to 44%. Effective strategies include tiered instruction, flexible grouping, content–process–product differentiation, and technology-supported approaches. Instructional models such as identification–reflection–improvement cycles and Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) demonstrated particularly strong effectiveness. Successful implementation was associated with continuous assessment practices, teacher preparedness, and access to differentiated instructional resources. In conclusion, this review confirms that differentiated instruction provides an effective framework for addressing diverse learner needs and improving reading comprehension outcomes in elementary classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning medium in the form of a paper pulp model of a volcanic eruption for disaster mitigation lessons integrated into fourth-grade Indonesian language classes in elementary school, as well as to test its validity and practicality. As a country prone to volcanic eruptions, Indonesia requires concrete and interactive learning media so that fourth-grade students, who are at the concrete operational stage, can understand the process of volcanic eruptions and mitigation efforts. The model is made from paper pulp, which is inexpensive, easily obtainable, and environmentally friendly, and is equipped with a simple simulation mechanism to depict the flow of lava caused by magma pressure. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, comprising the following stages: needs analysis, design, prototype development, expert validation, revision, and limited testing. Validation was conducted by fourth-grade teachers using a 1–4 scale validation sheet covering five aspects (practicality, appearance, feasibility, safety, and content appropriateness).Practicality was assessed through teacher observations and student questionnaires administered to 23 fourth-grade students. The validation results showed an average score of 4.00 (Highly Valid) across all aspects. The practicality of the media reached 95% (Highly Practical) according to teachers, and an average score of 3.8 (Highly Practical) according to students. This media proved suitable for use without revision, easy to operate within 2 × 35 minutes, and capable of increasing student engagement and understanding of disaster mitigation material in a concrete and enjoyable way. This study provides an economical and contextual alternative media made from local materials for teachers in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low effectiveness of Indonesian language learning in elementary schools, which is still dominated by conventional teaching methods and lacks connection to students’ real-life contexts. This condition affects students’ engagement, learning independence, and overall achievement. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing student worksheets (LKPD) based on the local wisdom of Sedekah Bumi in improving fifth-grade students’ language competencies. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using the One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The subjects of this study were 19 fifth-grade students of SDN Karangpuri 2. Data were collected through pretest and posttest, as well as student response questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality test, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain test. The results showed a significant improvement between pretest and posttest scores, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The average N-Gain score was 0.5444, which falls into the moderate category, indicating that the use of LKPD based on local wisdom is sufficiently effective in improving students’ learning outcomes. In addition, the language aspect achieved a very good category, while the structure, content, and effectiveness aspects were categorized as good. The integration of local wisdom into LKPD creates contextual learning, increases student motivation, and facilitates understanding of the material. Thus, LKPD based on local wisdom is proven to be an effective innovation in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
