Abstract

The Kahayan River in Central Kalimantan is one of the waterways utilized for traditional gold mining that employs amalgamation techniques. The application of this method poses a significant risk of environmental pollution and degradation. This study was conducted to evaluate the capacity of bacteria to act as bioremediation agents for mercury (Hg) at different concentrations. The methodology involved inoculating sediment samples into Zobell 2216E medium, isolating and purifying bacterial colonies on Nutrient Agar (NA), followed by bacterial identification and assessment of mercury degradation using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The findings revealed that isolate 34 was able to remove 132.73 ppm of Hg from an initial concentration of 250 ppm (equivalent to a 53.09% reduction), whereas isolate 108 removed 139.68 ppm, corresponding to a 55.87% reduction.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pergaulan bebas merupakan salah satu permasalahan sosial yang sering dihadapi oleh remaja dan berpotensi berdampak negatif terhadap masa depan generasi muda. Kurangnya pemahaman serta pengawasan menjadi faktor utama yang menyebabkan remaja mudah terjerumus dalam perilaku menyimpang. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi mengenai bahaya pergaulan bebas kepada siswa-siswi SMA melalui kegiatan sosialisasi dan evaluasi berbasis pre-test dan post-test, dengan jumlah peserta kegiatan sebanyak 40 siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman siswa dari 22% sebelum kegiatan menjadi 91% setelah kegiatan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa sosialisasi efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran remaja terhadap pentingnya menjaga diri dari pengaruh negatif lingkungan pergaulan.Abstract: Promiscuity is a social problem frequently faced by adolescents and has the potential to negatively impact the future of the younger generation. Lack of understanding and supervision are key factors contributing to adolescents' vulnerability to deviant behavior. This community service activity aimed to educate students of State Senior High School 1 Katingan about the dangers of promiscuity through pre- and post-test-based outreach and evaluation activities. Forty students participated in the activity. Results showed an increase in student understanding, from 22% before the activity to 91% after the activity. This demonstrates that outreach is effective in raising adolescent awareness of the importance of protecting themselves from the negative influences of their social environment.

Abstract

Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack.) merupakan tanaman yang secara tradisional dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat Kalimantan sebagai obat herbal, terutama melalui rebusan daun dan kulit batangnya. Namun, penelitian mengenai keberadaan dan potensi bakteri endofit pada tanaman sungkai masih sangat terbatas, padahal bakteri endofit diketahui hidup dalam jaringan tanaman dan berpotensi menghasilkan metabolit sekunder bioaktif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengisolasi isolat bakteri endofit yang berasosiasi dengan daun sungkai. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan isolasi bakteri endofit dari daun sungkai, dilanjutkan mengkarakterisasi jumlah isolat yang diperoleh melalui pengujian maksroskopis Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa isolat bakteri endofit dari daun sungkai berhasil diisolasi dan diperoleh satu isolat bakteri endofit dari daun sungkai, dengan karakter makroskopis berbentuk bulat, dengan permukaan datar dan warna krem.

Abstract

This study focuses on the utilization of ironwood as an activated carbon adsorbent to remove heavy metal mercury (Hg). The background of the problem includes mercury pollution from various industrial sources and its harmful impacts on the environment and human health. The purpose of this study was to develop an effective method for adsorbing mercury using natural ironwood materials. The research method involves the synthesis of activated carbon through pyrolysis and chemical activation processes, followed by a series of adsorption tests on mercury with variations in pH conditions, contact time, and acid concentration. The research data showed that the optimum adsorption capacity was achieved at a mercury concentration of around 500 ppm, with high adsorption efficiency at pH 1 and a contact time of 80 minutes. The results also showed that the adsorption kinetics followed a second-order model with a rate of 0.017119 g/mg.min. In conclusion, the mercury adsorption process using activated carbon from ironwood followed the Langmuir isotherm model, with an adsorption capacity of 63.036 mg/g, indicating that the adsorbent had been successfully synthesized and had an effective ability to remove mercury.
