Abstract

Abstract   Liem Hie Djung Port (Nunukan, North Kalimantan) is a key border gateway for Indonesia-Malaysia maritime services, yet its waterside and landside performance is constrained by effective depth, basin geometry, and terminal capacity. This study develops a technical basis for revitalization by integrating GIS-based bathymetry modelling from 10 m BATNAS rasters, field surveys, and facility-needs analysis. Currents and tidal levels were derived from local measurements and tidal analysis, while the design wave height was estimated through wave forecasting. Results indicate a maximum current of 0.59 m/s during ebb, a design wave height of 0.46 m, and water levels of HWS +4.81 m, MSL +3.29 m, and LWS +1.81 m. For the design vessel (LOA 29.50 m; draft 1.22 m), the minimum requirements are a 2.27 m design depth, a 32.64 m single-lane channel width, a 44.25 m turning basin diameter, and an 81.00 m berth length. Landside improvements include reorganizing passenger flow, inspection facilities, and 2,644 m2 of parking. Overall, a phased, zoned revitalization is recommended to support border connectivity.   Keywords: Bathymetry, Border, GIS, Revitalization, Terminal

Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the synergistic effects of Buton Rock Asphalt (BRA) and Powdered Bottle Flakes (PBF) as sustainable modifiers for asphalt concrete mixtures. Employing a rigorous factorial experimental design, we tested 12 distinct combinations of BRA and PBF, with the Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) consistently determined to be 5.5%. Results from Marshall testing demonstrated that incorporating these two materials significantly enhanced the mixture's stability and stiffness. These findings were further corroborated by advanced durability tests, which confirmed exceptional performance, with a Retained Stability Index (RSI) exceeding 80% and minimal mass loss in the Cantabro test. The improved performance is attributed to the strong synergy between the hard bitumen from BRA and the polymeric matrix formed by PBF. This combination not only effectively reduced Voids in the Mix (VIM), resulting in a denser structure, but also exhibited superior resistance to permanent deformation. However, our analysis identified a critical trade-off: using the highest proportions of these modifiers may produce overly stiff mixtures, potentially increasing the risk of cracking. Overall, this research confirms that the BRA-PBF combination is a highly effective and sustainable solution for enhancing the mechanical performance and durability of road pavements. It provides a robust scientific foundation for developing a balanced mixture design that achieves optimal long-term performance.

Abstract

The coastal area of Tanah Kuning, Bulungan Regency, is planned as part of the development of the Tanah Kuning-Mangkupadi Industrial Estate and International Port (KIPI) in North Kalimantan Province. This study aims to analyze port land readiness based on topographic conditions to inform technical planning for port development. The study offers an approach to evaluating land readiness by integrating terrestrial surveying using a Total Station with aerial photogrammetry using a UAV drone. The data were processed into a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and contour maps for slope and land elevation analysis. The assessment was conducted descriptively and evaluatively, in accordance with KP.227/DJPL/2019, taking into account slope conditions, protection against the highest high-water level, and existing land use. The results show that location 1 has the most stable conditions, with dominant slopes of 0-25%, elevations above the highest high-water level, and no active settlements. Therefore, it is classified as suitable. In contrast, Locations 2 and 3 are classified as unsuitable due to the dominance of steep to very steep slopes and socio-land constraints.

Abstract

Waste management in Tana Tidung Regency faces complex challenges due to population growth, urbanization, and infrastructure limitations. This study aims to analyze the waste management system in Tana Tidung Regency by highlighting the challenges and opportunities in achieving a sustainable environment.waste management infrastructure, such as final disposal sites (TPA) and temporary disposal sites (TPS), is still inadequate. In addition, public awareness of sorting and processing waste is also low. Other constraints include the limited fleet of waste collection vehicles and the minimal use of modern technology. Opportunity aspects such as the development of community-based waste banks, the application of waste processing technologies like biodigesters and waste-to-energy systems, as well as collaboration with the private sector through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. The strategy to improve the waste management system, which includes community education, infrastructure investment, and the application of the reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) principle, is deemed important to support the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable environment. waste management in Tana Tidung Regency requires a holistic approach involving the government, the community, and the private sector. By addressing existing challenges and seizing opportunities, Tana Tidung Regency can improve the quality of its waste management towards sustainable development.
