Abstract

Populasi seluruh studi relevan nasional/internasional; sampel 10 artikel terpilih berdasarkan kriteria inklusi. Instrumen tabel analisis literatur; analisis deskriptif-komparatif dengan model Emzir. Hasil: Enam studi tunjukkan hubungan signifikan positif (p<0,05), terutama ≥3 cangkir/hari pada lansia (kenaikan SBP/DBP 5-15 mmHg); empat studi tidak temukan hubungan akibat toleransi kafein. Kesimpulan: Konsumsi kopi sedang-tinggi tingkatkan risiko hipertensi pada kelompok rentan, meski bervariasi berdasarkan dosis dan demografi.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a significant public health problem and contributes to increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Microcytic hypochromic anemia is the most common type of anemia during pregnancy and is associated with various factors, including sociodemographic characteristics. This study aimed to analyze the association between sociodemographic factors and microcytic hypochromic anemia status among pregnant women at Permata Ibunda Mother and Child Hospital, Pandeglang Regency, in 2024. This study used an analytical observational design with a case-control approach. A total of 74 pregnant women were included and divided into case and control groups based on anemia status. Data were obtained from medical records and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that age (p=0.027), education (p=0.032), healthcare class (p=0.035), and residential area (p=0.030) were significantly associated with microcytic hypochromic anemia, while occupation (p=0.127) was not significantly associated. Pregnant women with non-ideal age, lower educational level, lower healthcare class, and those living in rural areas had a higher risk of developing anemia. In conclusion, certain sociodemographic factors are associated with the occurrence of microcytic hypochromic anemia among pregnant women. Therefore, comprehensive interventions through health education, improved access to healthcare services, and enhancement of socioeconomic conditions are needed to reduce the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

Abstract

Typhoid fever remains a major public health concern in developing countries, including Indonesia, particularly in communities characterized by inadequate sanitation and high population density, such as Islamic boarding schools. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) play a crucial role in preventing infectious diseases, including typhoid fever. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes and typhoid fever prevention practices among students of Madarijul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 142 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing respondents’ knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices regarding typhoid fever. The instrument had been tested for validity and reliability prior to data collection. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with the Chi-square test applied to examine associations between variables at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that 51.4% of respondents had poor knowledge, 59.9% demonstrated positive attitudes, and 62.0% exhibited inadequate typhoid fever prevention practices. Significant associations were found between knowledge and preventive practices (p=0.007; OR=2.57) and between attitudes and preventive practices (p=0.007; OR=2.27). Students with better knowledge and more positive attitudes were more likely to engage in appropriate typhoid fever prevention practices. In conclusion, knowledge and attitudes were significantly associated with typhoid fever prevention practices among Islamic boarding school students. Strengthening health education and promoting positive health behaviors are essential to improving disease prevention efforts and reducing the risk of typhoid fever transmission in boarding school settings.

Abstract

Stunting is a global health problem that has a significant impact on the quality of human resources in the future, especially in Indonesia. Although various policies have been implemented to reduce the prevalence of stunting, the stunting rate is still high, indicating the need for further evaluation of the effectiveness of these policies. This article discusses the importance of using epidemiological unit indicators, such as stunting prevalence, infant mortality rate, immunization coverage, and sanitation, in monitoring and designing more effective stunting prevention policies. These indicators provide a clearer picture of the factors that influence the success of the policy, as well as support data-based decision-making. In addition, health education also plays an important role in stunting prevention efforts, especially through ongoing outreach programs for the community, especially pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Effective outreach programs can raise awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition and good parenting during the First 1000 Days of Life. Through a multisectoral approach involving the health, education, and social sectors, as well as strengthening the role of health cadres, it is hoped that the prevalence of stunting can decrease significantly. This article also recommends the use of technology to expand the reach of health education and conduct regular policy evaluations to adjust to findings in the field.

Abstract

Occupational exposure to particulate matter (PM₁₀) represents a significant health risk. Although the association between PM₁₀ exposure levels and impaired lung function has been well demonstrated in numerous studies, epidemiological literature shows highly contradictory findings regarding the relationship between exposure duration, commonly measured as “Length of Service” and lung function. To explore the sources of this inconsistency, this review examined literature published between 2020 and 2025 using a narrative synthesis approach. The analysis revealed that the divergent findings are not driven by biological factors, but rather by systematic methodological limitations. Non-significant results in several studies can be attributed to three major weaknesses: (1) Length of Service is a weak proxy variable that fails to capture the crucial intensity (dose) of exposure; (2) substantial statistical multicollinearity between Length of Service and Age, which distorts the estimated associations; and (3) the Healthy Worker Effect (HWE), a selection bias that is almost inevitable in occupational epidemiology studies especially those using cross-sectional designs, which systematically attenuates true associations. Therefore, non-significant findings related to Length of Service should not be interpreted as evidence of the absence of harm from chronic exposure. The relationship likely exists but is “masked” by design biases and the limitations of a weak proxy. Future research should avoid relying on Length of Service as a sole exposure indicator and instead adopt cumulative exposure metrics that are more representative.
