Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure increases abnormally during several examinations. In Blora Regency, 31.5% of the population aged 15 years and above suffer from hypertension, with a higher proportion in women than men. This study analyzed the relationship between physical activity, diet, and obesity, with hypertension in adolescents at the Tanjung Village Integrated Health Post (Posyandu). The study design used correlation analysis with a cross-sectional approach. The independent variables were physical activity, diet, and obesity while the dependent variable was hypertension. This study was conducted at the Tanjung Village Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) from September to October 2025. The number of samples of 44 adolescents was determined through random sampling selected randomly from the entire population. Data were collected using several research instruments, namely a questionnaire to measure adolescent physical activity based on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) guidelines, a dietary questionnaire using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), measurement of body mass index (BMI) by measuring weight and height of adolescents, and measurement of blood pressure using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data analysis used the chi-square test. There is a significant relationship between the level of physical activity and the incidence of hypertension in adolescents with a p-value of 0.0001 (p < 0.05). The research hypothesis is accepted with a positive relationship, which means the lower a person's physical activity, the higher the risk of experiencing hypertension. There is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and the incidence of hypertension in adolescents with a p-value of 0.0001 (p < 0.05). Adolescents with poor dietary patterns (high sodium and low fiber) have a greater tendency to experience increased blood pressure. The majority of respondents with hypertension (26 out of 28 people) have a diet that is classified as unhealthy. There is a significant relationship between obesity status and the incidence of hypertension in adolescents with a p-value of 0.007 (p < 0.05). Obese respondents have a much higher probability of experiencing hypertension, where 13 out of 14 obese respondents were diagnosed with hypertension.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the identity of public spaces in waterfront areas undergoing rapid development, which raises important questions regarding their evolving identity. The findings from this research are expected to contribute to the design and planning of more effective and memorable public spaces in the future. As part of the effort to understand the identity of these spaces, the study explores the dynamic interaction between physical form, activities, and meaning in shaping the unique character of waterfront public spaces. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach and focuses on a single case study to examine phenomena related to physical form, activity, and meaning. Data collection was carried out through direct observation, followed by a thorough analysis based on literature studies. The case study area selected for this research was the Mattirotasi seafront. The results show that the aspects of this public space do not sufficiently maintain its identity. This is attributed to factors such as limited accessibility, low legibility, environmental degradation, and the limited connectivity between public spaces. Consequently, the relationship between the space and its surrounding environment has been disrupted. This preliminary research offers a significant contribution by filling a gap in the literature on the identity of public spaces in waterfront areas, providing practical implications for urban designers and policymakers in developing effective strategies for the management and design of waterfront public spaces.

Abstract

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae is frequently associated with severe clinical courses and high mortality, particularly among elderly patients and those with comorbidities. The increasing rate of antimicrobial resistance has further limited the effectiveness of standard empirical therapy. This was a retrospective descriptive observational study using secondary data from medical records of hospitalized CAP patients at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, from January 2022 to December 2023. Subjects were adults (≥18 years) diagnosed with CAP and with positive cultures for K. pneumoniae. Variables included demographic characteristics, length of hospital stay, clinical outcomes, and antibiotic susceptibility patterns. Data were analyzed using univariate descriptive analysis. A total of 50 patients were included, predominantly male (58%) and aged over 65 years (40%). The most frequent comorbidities were hypertension (60%) and diabetes mellitus (36%). The mean length of hospital stay was 14 days. Mortality was high, reaching 56%. Antibiotic susceptibility testing showed the highest sensitivity to meropenem (96%) and amikacin (92%), while commonly used first-line agents such as ceftriaxone, ampicillin–sulbactam, and ciprofloxacin demonstrated low sensitivity (<15%). CAP due to Klebsiella pneumoniae at Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital is associated with very high mortality and widespread resistance to first-line antibiotics. Empirical therapy should be guided by local antibiogram data and supported by strong antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Abstract

Lombok is one of the islands in the Lesser Sunda Islands group that offers various tourist attractions, one of which is Loang Baloq Beach. Community service activities carried out at Loang Baloq Beach in Mataram City demonstrated that a direct approach through beach cleanups and education has a positive impact on public and tourist awareness in maintaining a clean coastal environment. This method is effective in building public participation, increasing understanding, and encouraging collective behavioral change. Therefore, such activities need to be carried out regularly and continuously with the support of various parties, in order to establish a more participatory, educational, and sustainable coastal waste management system.

Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.), which is rich in catechin, a major bioactive compound with strong antioxidant activity. Variations in catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier are influenced by geographical origin, plant characteristics, and processing and extraction methods. This study aims to comprehensively review the catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier based on scientific publications from the last decade (2015–2025). A narrative literature review method was applied by collecting relevant articles from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Garuda databases. Selected studies were original research articles reporting quantitative data on catechin levels and/or antioxidant activity of gambier originating from Indonesia. The results indicate that Indonesian gambier, particularly from West Sumatra, exhibits high catechin content and strong antioxidant activity, although considerable variation exists among regions and extraction techniques. Advanced extraction and purification methods, including solvent optimization and ultrasonic-assisted extraction, were shown to enhance catechin concentration and antioxidant capacity. Indonesian gambier has significant potential as a natural antioxidant source, highlighting the need for quality standardization and further development of processing technologies to support value-added utilization and downstream product development.

Abstract

Epistaxis is one of the most common emergencies encountered in otorhinolaryngology–head and neck surgery (ORL-HNS) practice. Although most cases are mild, severe epistaxis, particularly of posterior origin, may lead to serious complications. This literature review aims to comprehensively discuss epistaxis, including its definition, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, classification, and principles of management based on clinical guidelines. A narrative literature review method was applied by analyzing textbooks, clinical guidelines, and scientific journals related to epistaxis, including Logan Turner’s guidelines, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) recommendations, and otorhinolaryngology consensus statements. Epistaxis is classified into anterior and posterior types based on the bleeding source, each with distinct pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical implications. Anterior epistaxis is commonly associated with local factors and generally responds well to conservative treatment, whereas posterior epistaxis is often related to systemic conditions and requires more aggressive interventions. Management should follow a stepwise approach in accordance with clinical guidelines. Epistaxis is an important ORL-HNS emergency that requires a systematic diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Understanding the pathophysiology and classification of epistaxis is essential for selecting effective and safe management strategies based on clinical guidelines, thereby reducing complications and recurrence

Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has long been regarded as a transient metabolic disorder limited to pregnancy. However, growing scientific evidence indicates that GDM represents an early marker of long-term metabolic vulnerability in women. This literature review aims to synthesize current evidence on the association between GDM and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and other metabolic disorders after pregnancy, as well as its implications for postpartum care and interdisciplinary collaboration. A literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, focusing on articles published over the past ten years. The review findings show that women with a history of GDM have a significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as a higher risk of cardiovascular disease compared with women without a history of GDM, even among those who do not progress to overt diabetes. The underlying mechanisms include persistent insulin resistance, pancreatic β-cell dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, the role of the placenta, and the potential contribution of the gut microbiota. In conclusion, GDM should be understood as an early predictor of long-term cardiometabolic disease. Structured and collaborative postpartum care involving obstetrics and internal medicine is essential to reduce the future burden of disease.

Abstract

This study discusses the analysis of literacy movements carried out by the Mbojo Itoe Boekoe (MIB) community in an effort to increase reading interest among the people of Bima City. The research focuses on: (1) the form of literacy movement carried out by MIB in the community of Bima City, (2) supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing reading interest through MIB, and (3) the views of literacy observers and the general public on the literacy movement carried out by MIB. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with the aim of describing the research object in depth. The main data source comes from the founder of the MIB community, while data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that before implementing literacy activities, MIB first conducts surveys to prepare human resources and work programs, as well as to adjust to community needs so that literacy activities are positively received. In addition to having advantages such as collaboration with other communities and active participation in the Literacy Culture Camp, MIB also faces several obstacles that hinder its activities. The presence of MIB book stalls in public spaces helps the community and encourages the growth of critical thinking. This research is expected to serve as material for evaluating and strengthening the MIB literacy movement.

Abstract

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a urological disorder characterized by the backflow of urine from the bladder into the ureter or kidney. It often causes recurrent urinary tract infections and may lead to renal damage. Radiological modalities, particularly CT urography and VCUG, play a key role in establishing the diagnosis. A 7-year-old boy presented with fever and recurrent urinary tract infections. CT urography revealed severe hydronephrosis and hydroureter on the right side, consistent with VUR. The patient was treated conservatively with prophylactic antibiotics and regular monitoring of renal function. Clinical improvement was achieved with conservative therapy. The prognosis is favorable with early diagnosis and long-term follow-up. Radiological imaging is essential for diagnosing VUR and guiding management. Conservative treatment with careful monitoring can provide good outcomes in pediatric patients.
