Abstract

The health of elementary school students forms the foundation for a healthy and productive generation. However, unhealthy dietary habits and unbalanced lifestyles can increase the risk of digestive tract disorders, which impact children's growth and development. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge of students at SD Negeri 066652 Medan regarding the importance of digestive health and the role of prebiotics and probiotics in supporting it. The activity took place on April 10, 2026, at SD Negeri 066652 Medan, North Sumatra, involving 40 students. The program utilized interactive seminars and workshops comprising material presentations, discussions, Q&A sessions, and interactive quizzes. The topics covered included the gut microbiome, factors influencing digestive health, and the benefits of consuming yogurt—a probiotic source containing Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, protein, calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. Knowledge assessment was conducted via pre-tests (before the presentation) and post-tests (after the activity) using identical or equivalent questions. Evaluations also involved interactive quizzes and discussions with teachers regarding the activity's implementation and future program follow-ups. Results showed an increase in participant knowledge, evidenced by a rise in the proportion of students in the "good knowledge" category from 15% in the pre-test to 82% in the post-test—an increase of 67 percentage points. Meanwhile, the proportion of students with "poor knowledge" dropped from 45% to 0%, and those with "fair knowledge" decreased from 40% to 18%. These findings demonstrate that pharmaceutical education delivered through interactive seminars and workshops can improve students' understanding of digestive health and the benefits of prebiotics and probiotics. The program is expected to raise student awareness about maintaining digestive health and pave the way for future initiatives, such as education and training on probiotic beverage production for the surrounding community.

Abstract

Limited land and rapid urban development in Sukamulya, Bandung, constrain community-based urban farming, while the 2024 community service program improved production capacity but left post-harvest marketing challenges. This 2026 follow-up program aimed to strengthen commercialization readiness through digital marketing and social commerce assistance. Twenty PKK RW 05 members participated in five meetings totaling 10 hours during July 2026. Activities combined Participatory Rural Appraisal, practical clinics, and pre-test and post-test evaluations covering branding, product photography and copywriting, social commerce, and business finance. Average scores increased from 25.00 to 85.00, with an N-Gain of 0.80. Participants developed a brand identity, labeled packaging, four product groups, two active social commerce channels, and eight promotional contents. Initial monitoring recorded 10 transactions from eight new customers, totaling approximately IDR 1,250,000. These results indicate improved digital marketing capacity and early commercialization readiness, while long-term sales growth and business sustainability require further monitoring after the program ended.

Abstract

Productive zakat can support household food access by financing food-production assets and sustained mentoring, but operational outputs should not be interpreted as nutrition impacts. This community service evaluated an intervention integrating home gardens and village chickens for mustahik households in Melung Village, Banyumas Regency. Sixty-two households were screened using economic vulnerability, food conditions, household-space readiness, and willingness to participate; 41 were selected. Evaluation used distribution records, field observation, brief interviews, activity documentation, and four monitoring rounds. Indicators covered beneficiary reach, chicken survival, egg production, hatching, vegetable utilization, and implementation barriers. The programme distributed 205 chickens; 204 survived to 30 January 2026, 25 households reported egg production, and three reported successful hatching. Vegetables were harvested for household use and sharing. These findings indicate activation of household food-production assets, not proven improvements in food security or nutritional status. Longer follow-up should measure dietary diversity, egg consumption, food expenditure, income, and asset sustainability.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the rural food sector face serious constraints in product preservation, resulting in short shelf life and limited distribution capacity. This condition undermines the ergo-iconic value of MSME products, comprising functional-ergonomic value in the form of practical and safe packaging, as well as iconic-symbolic value derived from product uniqueness that has the potential to enhance market competitiveness. This community service program aims to strengthen the ergo-iconic value of MSME food products through training and mentoring in the application of appropriate preservation technologies in Rawakalong Village, Bogor Regency, involving 30 MSME units in the local raw material-based food processing sector. The method employed is a need-based participatory approach, encompassing three stages: site survey, MSME mapping and data collection, and recruitment of experts in the field of food technology. The training program was conducted through several sessions, including material delivery, demonstrations, and guided practice related to vacuum packaging, the use of natural preservatives, storage temperature control, and the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The program achieved an average knowledge and skills score improvement of ?20% among 30 MSME participants, a shelf life extension of 30–45% for semi-wet products and more than 50% for dry products, along with measurable improvements in product competitiveness, distribution capacity, and business sustainability of rural food MSMEs.

Abstract

Peer counseling is a school-based support strategy that can strengthen students' access to early psychosocial assistance through trained peers. This community service activity aimed to assess changes in the skills of prospective peer counselors before and after training at SMP Negeri 3 Ujung Batu. Twenty-three students selected by the guidance and counseling teacher based on personal characteristics, willingness to participate, and communication ability took part in participatory training consisting of material delivery, discussion, simulation, role play, practice, and mentoring. Skills were assessed using pretest and posttest measurements and analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages. The proportion of participants categorized as having good skills increased from 12 students (52.1%) before training to 19 students (82.6%) after training, an increase of 30.5 percentage points. These findings indicate that the training was followed by an improvement in the prospective peer counselors' skills. Periodic training, supervision, and mentoring are recommended to maintain and strengthen peer counseling capacity at school.

Abstract

Environmental issues are driving a shift in the textile industry toward eco-fashion based on natural materials. The village of Baros, Bantul, has an abundance of coastal flora, but the development of local ecoprint crafts has been hampered by monotonous patterns, colours that fade easily, and designs that lack competitiveness. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to apply a motif engineering approach to enhance the aesthetic value, technical quality, and economic value of products produced by the Lalita Eco-Print Artisans Group. The activity was carried out using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving 15 artisans through four stages: Diagnosis & Mapping (FGD), Joint Experimentation, Quality Testing & Observation, and Standardisation (SOP). The results of the project demonstrated an improvement in the artisans’ technical skills in applying symmetrical compositions, mirroring techniques, determining the centre of interest, as well as multi-stage fixation and mordanting (using alum, tunjung, and lime). This approach successfully shifted the artisans’ mindset from a trial-and-error approach to a more professional and environmentally conscious (green awareness) approach, while also strengthening the group’s social capital. This approach has successfully shifted the artisans’ mindset from a trial-and-error approach to a more professional and environmentally conscious one, while also strengthening the group’s social capital. The resulting fabric products are art-wear quality, 100% biodegradable, feature highly defined leaf vein patterns, offer superior colourfastness, and convey the local narrative of Baros’s coastal vegetation (ketapang leaves, coastal teak, and Rhizophora mangroves).

Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer screening coverage in Indonesia remains low, partly due to limited public knowledge regarding early detection. Objective: To increase the knowledge of Kampa District PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) team members regarding cervical cancer screening through education using QR Code-based leaflets integrated with educational videos. Methods: The activity was conducted on July 27, 2026, at the Kampa District PKK Hall, Kampar Regency, involving 50 women aged 30–50 years. Evaluation employed a one-group pretest-posttest design comprising a pretest, material presentation, interactive discussion, and a posttest. Changes in knowledge scores were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: The mean knowledge score increased from 7.44 ± 1.618 at the pretest to 10.40 ± 1.678 at the posttest. The proportion of participants in the "good knowledge" category rose from 3 (6.0%) to 38 (76.0%), while the "poor knowledge" category decreased from 14 (28.0%) to 1 (2.0%). The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference in knowledge scores before and after the education (Z = ?6.182; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The educational intervention led to an increase in participants' knowledge regarding cervical cancer screening. These results reflect knowledge changes immediately following the education and do not yet demonstrate changes in screening behavior. The QR Code-based leaflet served as a supporting medium, linking written information with short videos to reinforce the message regarding the importance of screening.
