Abstract

This community service program aimed to identify the potential, challenges, and development opportunities of the Batako micro-enterprise and the Pantai Tok Anjang tourism area in Batu Besar Village RW 008, Nongsa District, Batam City. The program was initiated in response to the limited utilization of digital technology in business marketing, inadequate business administration, suboptimal tourism management, and the need to strengthen collaboration between the community and local government in supporting local economic development. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach through field observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and participatory discussions involving micro-enterprise owners, tourism managers, and the Department of Industry and Trade of Batam City. The findings revealed that the Batako enterprise has strong production capacity but still faces challenges in digital marketing, business administration, and access to government development programs. Meanwhile, Pantai Tok Anjang possesses considerable tourism potential; however, its management remains community-based and encounters limitations in digital promotion, environmental cleanliness, and supporting facilities. Interviews with the local government indicated that various business development programs have been implemented, although the participation of business actors remains relatively limited. This community service activity produced several recommendations, including strengthening digital literacy, providing assistance in digital marketing and business administration, enhancing stakeholder collaboration, and promoting community-based tourism development. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for sustainable community empowerment programs to improve the competitiveness of micro-enterprises and support local economic growth.

Abstract

SD Unggulan Muslimat NU Purbalingga had previously implemented a web-based administrative management system that enhanced the efficiency of data management and school administrative services. However, the school's Guidance and Counseling (BK) services were still conducted manually, resulting in unsystematic documentation, limited monitoring of student progress, and a lack of integration with the existing system. This community service initiative aimed to develop and implement an integrated web-based counseling application to optimize BK services at the elementary school level. The methodology followed the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) stages, comprising requirements analysis, system design, application development, implementation and training, testing via Likert-scale questionnaires, and monitoring and mentoring. The resulting application integrates with the existing school management system and offers features such as structured counseling history recording, dashboard-based student progress monitoring, issue categorization and follow-up tracking, automated report generation, and tiered access rights for counselors, homeroom teachers, and the school principal. The training and mentoring enabled counselors and homeroom teachers to operate the system independently during their daily service routines. Based on questionnaire results from 10 respondents, the community service activity received a highly positive response from all participants. Out of 50 total responses, no respondents selected the "Strongly Disagree," "Disagree," or "Neutral" categories; instead, 84% of responses fell into the "Agree" category and 16% into the "Strongly Agree" category. These results indicate a 100% participant acceptance and satisfaction rate regarding the activity's implementation.

Abstract

Access to legal information and improved community legal knowledge are essential for creating safe, peaceful, and just villages. Village Legal Aid Posts (POSBANKUMDES) have a strategic role in bringing legal information and services closer to rural communities while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions. This community service program aimed to improve community knowledge regarding Village SDGs and the role of POSBANKUMDES, drug abuse prevention, and crime prevention, particularly theft. The program was conducted in Amboyo Utara Village, Ngabang District, Landak Regency, using a participatory legal education approach consisting of material presentation, interactive discussion, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. Sixteen participants representing strategic village stakeholders participated in the activity, including nine hamlet heads, Family Welfare Empowerment representatives, Village Consultative Body members, village officials, and community leaders. The evaluation results showed that the participants' average knowledge score increased from 85.98% in the pre-test to 94.21% in the post-test, representing an increase of 8.24 percentage points. The highest increase occurred in drug abuse prevention material at 13.28 percentage points, followed by Village SDGs and POSBANKUMDES at 10.00 percentage points, and crime/theft prevention at 1.43 percentage points. The activity indicates that legal education through strengthening the educational function of POSBANKUMDES can contribute to improving community legal knowledge. Program sustainability is supported through the development of presentation materials and educational pamphlets that can be reused in future village-level legal education activities.

Abstract

Low literacy interest and ability among early childhood populations in rural areas remain a challenge that needs to be addressed through community-based literacy programs. This community service activity aims to describe the implementation of the Lapak Baca (Reading Stall) program in Lendang Penyonggok and Otak Bangket hamlets, Tetebatu Selatan Village, East Lombok, and to identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. The program partners were children ranging from kindergarten to elementary school age in both hamlets. The service method employed a qualitative descriptive approach through participatory observation and documentation, with activities divided into two tracks according to participants’ reading ability: letter recognition for non-readers, and shared reading followed by retelling for those who could already read. The results showed that four to eight children in the beginner group demonstrated progress in letter recognition and spelling, while the quality of retelling among the advanced group varied according to each child’s level of self-confidence. The main challenge identified was unstable attendance due to overlapping schedules with other hamlet activities, while limited documentation in Lendang Penyonggok constitutes an important methodological note. This program demonstrates that a literacy approach based on ability, rather than age alone, can serve as a relevant model for replication in other rural communities with similarly limited literacy access.

Abstract

Early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and joint disorders, is essential to support preventive health measures and reduce disease complications. The government, through Minister of Health Regulation Number 4 of 2019, has established diabetes mellitus control as one of the minimum health services required by local governments and strengthened its implementation through the National Clinical Service Guidelines (PNPK). This community health program aimed to identify the health status of residents through early screening activities, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid examinations. The activity was conducted among residents in the GBKP Tiga Panah area. The results indicated that 38.5% of participants had normal blood pressure, 53.8% had normal blood sugar levels, and 38.5% had normal uric acid levels. These findings demonstrate the importance of routine health screening as an initial preventive strategy for detecting NCD risks. Early identification enables appropriate follow-up, education, and regular monitoring at local healthcare facilities to improve community health outcomes.

Abstract

Administrative services at the village government level are often hampered by long physical lines due to residents’ high demand for information regarding procedures and requirements for civil registration documents. Reliance on manual service methods not only hinders residents’ time efficiency but also increases the workload of village officials who must repeatedly address similar inquiries. This community service project aims to implement rule-based chatbot technology as a self-service information platform to accelerate the digitization of public services at the Melati Village Office. The methods used in this project include analyzing community needs, designing a web-framework-based system architecture, and providing technical guidance to residents and village officials. The results of the project show that the use of a chatbot as a self-service information portal provides instant access to information on administrative requirements, thereby effectively reducing wait times and improving the operational efficiency of the village office. In addition to its technical impact, this innovation also fosters a behavioral shift among residents toward a more self-reliant and tech-savvy community when accessing public information. This innovation serves as an initial strategic step in the digital transformation of village services, which is planned to be further developed into a mobile-based platform to provide broader and more responsive access for residents in the future.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to empower the Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah women’s group by improving their knowledge and skills in diversifying turmeric tamarind herbal drink products. The activity was conducted on June 7, 2026, in Tumenggungan Baru, Lamongan, and was attended by 25 members of Nasyiatul ‘Aisyiyah. A participatory approach was employed through preliminary coordination, material presentation, interactive discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, monitoring, and evaluation. The participants received explanations regarding the functions of the ingredients, hygienic processing, measurement standardization, product diversification, and opportunities for developing household-based businesses. During the practical session, the participants prepared the ingredients, cut and blended the turmeric, filtered the blended mixture, cooked the herbal drink, and evaluated the taste, aroma, color, and consistency of the product. The results showed that the participants actively participated in all stages of the training and gained practical experience in producing turmeric tamarind herbal drinks using simple household equipment. The participants also understood that product quality was influenced by hygiene, accurate ingredient composition, processing techniques, storage methods, and formulation consistency. The activity created opportunities for product development in the form of ready-to-drink beverages, concentrated products, and flavor variations using lemongrass or lime. Overall, the training strengthened the participants’ productive capacity and provided an initial foundation for developing a community based herbal beverage business.

Abstract

Surgical procedures are medical interventions that require optimal anesthesia preparation to ensure patient safety and comfort during and after surgery. Patients' limited understanding of pre-anesthesia management often gives rise to preoperative anxiety and non-adherence to preoperative instructions, such as fasting before surgery and providing a complete medical history, which can increase the risk of anesthesia-related complications. This community service activity aimed to provide education to patients undergoing surgical procedures on pre-anesthesia management in order to improve their knowledge, compliance, and physical and psychological readiness. The activity was carried out at RSU Wisata UIT, targeting preoperative patients along with their accompanying family members, using lecture methods, question-and-answer discussions, and educational media (leaflets and PowerPoint slides), which began and ended with the administration of questionnaires (pre-test and post-test) to measure changes in participants' anxiety levels. The results showed a decrease in patients' anxiety levels after the education was provided, indicating that pre-anesthesia education intervention is effective in preparing patients for surgical procedures. This activity is expected to serve as a model for a sustainable intervention in efforts to improve the quality of anesthesia nursing care and patient safety in hospitals.

Abstract

The high incidence of infectious diseases among children, particularly diarrhea and acute respiratory infections (ARI), is closely associated with poor hand hygiene practices. A preliminary study conducted in the pediatric ward revealed that most preschool children were not accustomed to practicing the six-step handwashing technique and did not consistently wash their hands after engaging in activities or touching objects and toys. In addition, the ward lacked attractive educational media to support hand hygiene learning for children. This community service program aimed to improve preschool children's knowledge and ability to perform the six-step handwashing technique through the use of a hand card game as an educational medium. The program included health education, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and evaluations conducted before and after the intervention. The results showed that all participants experienced an improvement in their knowledge, reaching either good or fair categories after the educational sessions. The hand card game proved to be an effective learning medium for enhancing children's understanding and practical skills in proper handwashing through an interactive and enjoyable approach. This program is recommended for continuous implementation in pediatric hospital wards as a health education strategy to prevent infectious diseases and promote clean and healthy behaviors from an early age.
