Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of innovative teaching tools in special education settings, one of which is learning the conversion of units of measurement. The research was conducted at SLB Negeri 2 Sawahlunto with the target of intellectual   disability students who face challenges in understanding math concepts related to units of measurement. This research aims to develop learning media in the form of Kotak Saran (Unit of Measurement Conversion). Using research and development methods with 4D design. The subject of this research and development trial was by related experts such as media experts, tools, and learning for students with disabilities. As well as a practicality test by an educator and a student of intellectual disability. The data collection tool is a questionnaire instrument for the validity of the Kotak Saran media and a response instrument for the assessment of the Kotak Saran media. The data analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the Kotak Saran learning media is useful and feasible as a learning media in the conversion of units of measurement with the acquisition of a validation value of 92.40% and a practicality test of 82.5%. The final form of this product is in the form of learning media packaged in the form of an android application so that it can be opened anywhere and anytime via an android smartphone.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the inclusion of special needs children in mainstream education poses significant challenges, necessitating effective instructional strategies to meet their diverse learning needs. This study explores the effectiveness of Differentiated Instruction (DI) models in inclusive schooling settings, aiming to assess their impact on the learning outcomes and experiences of special needs children. Through telephone interviews with six teachers representing diverse educational backgrounds, this research delves into their experiences with implementing DI models. Thematic data analysis was employed to identify patterns, themes, and challenges associated with using DI in inclusive classrooms. The findings shed light on the effectiveness of various instructional strategies in meeting the unique needs of special needs children, while also uncovering barriers to effective implementation such as limited resources and inadequate training. Preliminary results indicate that DI models have the potential to enhance the learning experiences and outcomes of special needs children within inclusive settings. Teachers reported increased student engagement, motivation, and academic progress when employing tailored instructional approaches. However, challenges such as resource constraints and lack of training emerged as hindrances to effective DI implementation. This study underscores the importance of adopting student-centered instructional approaches to accommodate diverse learning needs in inclusive classrooms. Furthermore, it highlights the necessity for targeted professional development programs and resource allocation to support teachers in effectively implementing DI strategies. By contributing insights into best practices for supporting the educational success of special needs children in mainstream schools, this research adds to the ongoing discourse on inclusive education in Aceh.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research was conducted at one of the State Special Schools in Blitar City, observing five students with disabilities. The observation results showed that the students had poor social skills, with mostly nonverbal interactions and limited engagement in school activities. Through a literature review, this study identified interactive learning methods, such as group games, that could potentially improve students' social skills. Abstract

Nowadays, the new generation is very familiar with technology. The use of gadgets increases the prevalence of the risk of attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity because gadget addiction affects the excessive release of the hormone dopamine, causing a decrease in the maturity of the Pre pre-frontal cortex. Unfortunately, impaired concentration will ultimately have a prolonged impact on a child's academic performance. Symptoms of lack of concentration in children will interfere with cognitive development, behavior, and social and communication skills. One of the factor is the gadget usage. The gadget provided too much stimulus at once, while attention is the ability to focus the mind or mental ability in sorting information that is not needed and focusing only on the required information. Relaxation is a technique believed to help improve attention. Unfortunately, only a few literature present relaxation carried out on children. This research involved 34 children of elementary school in Surakarta. The experiment was carried out using the one-group pre-post test technique. Corsi block and digit span are used as measurement instruments. The results show a significant difference in children's attention ability before and after the intervention.

Abstract

Sexual education is very important to be taught to young children, especially children with special needs. Sexual violence can intentionally occur to someone in a sexual manner. This can even extend to attempted rape, sadism in sexual relationships, other unwanted sexual activities, demeaning and hurting or injuring the victim. One effort to prevent sexual violence is to equip young children with knowledge, skills, and abilities to protect themselves from the threat of sexual violence. The method used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study are teachers in one Special School. Data collection in this study uses observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques use qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of the study show that special teachers need learning media for more structured and systematic inclusive education according to the learning stage process. Until now, there is still minimal learning media used for sexual education, especially for children with special needs. Good learning media must have clear, communicative, concise, and systematic language use. The scope of the content in the learning media must also adjust to the conditions of students who will be given learning.
