Abstract

Learning media is one of the essential learning tools that play a crucial role in the learning process. Therefore, a teacher must be able to design and use learning media effectively. Teachers must understand the various types of learning media, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each media. Teachers must also be able to select the appropriate learning media based on the learning objectives, subject matter, and characteristics of the students. This study aims to improve teachers' competence in using digital media at SD Santo Fransiskus III Jakarta. The participants were six teachers with various subject expertise. This study employed an action research method, consisting of two series of cycles, and examined two digital media platforms: Canva and Quizizz. The first cycle focused on enhancing teachers' digital media skills, particularly on Canva and Quizizz, to improve learner knowledge and learning outcomes. The second cycle focuses on enhancing teachers' ability to utilise digital media in the attitudinal aspects of learning. The results showed that teachers' competence in designing and applying digital media had increased after participating in this action research. This improvement is evident in the results of the teacher knowledge and skills test, as well as the observations of the learning process conducted by the teacher.

Abstract

The present study examines the traditional art of Kuda Lumping through the perspective of character values reflected in the principles of Pancasila. As a traditional Indonesian cultural practice, Kuda Lumping represents a local heritage with aesthetic appeal and deep moral significance relevant to social life. However, its existence faces increasing threats from globalisation and modern lifestyle changes, mainly due to a lack of artist regeneration. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, data were collected via in-depth interviews with Kuda Lumping artists, community figures, art observers, and elementary school teachers and students, alongside direct observations and a review of relevant literature. The research aims to identify character values within Kuda Lumping that align with Pancasila, analyse factors influencing its sustainability, and explore strategies for its preservation as a medium for cultural and character education. The findings emphasise the importance of maintaining Kuda Lumping as part of the national cultural identity and a tool for fostering Pancasila values, especially among elementary students. The study also proposes strategic recommendations, including arts-based education programmes, digitalising performances, and enhancing support from government and cultural communities. It is hoped that Kuda Lumping will continue to flourish as both a cultural heritage and a means of character development aligned with Pancasila.

Abstract

Folklore in Indonesia is widely available in written form on various social media platforms. One of them is included in a PDF book entitled '30 Indonesian folklore about the Origin of the Naming of a Region in Indonesia. The first folklore in the book is entitled 'Sangkuriang: Asal-Mula Tangkuban Perahu.' This folklore has the potential to be taught in elementary schools. Therefore, a study of its readability is needed. This study aims to describe the readability of the 'Sangkuriang: Asal-Mula Tangkuban Perahu' folklore being read by elementary school students. Library research was conducted in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data on the readability of the 'Sangkuriang: Asal-MulaTangkuban Perahu' folklore were analyzed using the gunning fog index. The research results indicate that the folklore 'Sangkuriang: Asal-Mula Tangkuban Perahu' has a range of values, with the highest value of 6.60 found in paragraph 6 and the lowest value of 3.13 in paragraph 12. This number falls within the category <7.00, which corresponds to the elementary school level, indicating that the folktale is suitable for high school students to read. The implementation involves the compilers of Indonesian language textbooks in high school using this folktale text for its literary aspect.

Abstract

This paper investigates the performance of the RADEC learning model(TRLM) assisted by e-learning to foster higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in aspiring primary school teachers. No one has researched HOTS in the implementation of TRLM, which is held online in mathematics materials. A quasi-experimental design was employed in this research. Aspiring primary school teachers who are studying at Semarang State University were the subject of this paper. The aspiring primary school teachers are currently in their second semester of study. There were two classes through simple random sampling: one performed TRLM assisted by e-learning, and one control class. HOTS was measured using essay questions with HOTS indicators, specifically analysing, evaluating, and creating. The question was valid and reliable. The study results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. There is an increase from pretest to posttest in both the control and experimental classes. However, when checked, the N-Gain score percentage of the experimental class showed that the increasing HOTS is quite effective. At the same time, the control class was ineffective. TRLM-assisted e-learning increases the HOTS of aspiring primary school teachers and is more effective than the control class.

Abstract

Analysing instructional material needs in elementary science education is crucial to ensure alignment with student developmental characteristics and the current curriculum. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching materials grounded in the Melayu Riau cultural context for IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial) in fifth-grade elementary classrooms. Additionally, the study seeks to assess the perceptions of both teachers and students regarding the implementation of these culturally-based materials. A quantitative quasi-experimental approach was employed, utilising a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected through student assessments administered before and after the intervention, complemented by questionnaires completed by teachers and students to gather feedback on using the teaching materials. The findings revealed that the normality tests for the pretest (α = 0.178) and post-test (α = 0.086) produced values greater than the threshold of α = 0.05, indicating that the data were normally distributed. The average student score increased from 64.48 on the pretest to 80.57 on the post-test. Furthermore, the N-Gain score analysis yielded a value of 0.5277, categorised as medium, demonstrating a moderate improvement in student learning outcomes. Teacher responses to using the Melayu Riau culture-based IPAS teaching materials averaged a score of 82.97, classified as "Very Good." Similarly, student responses averaged 83.2, within the "Very Good" category. These results suggest incorporating local cultural elements into science teaching materials can positively influence student engagement and academic achievement in IPAS for fifth-grade students.
