Abstract

Background: Malaria remains a major public health problem in endemic areas of Papua, Indonesia, contributing substantially to morbidity and hindering community productivity. Effective, sustainable, and community-based prevention strategies are urgently needed to reduce transmission and improve preventive behaviors. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of participatory education compared with conventional leaflet-based education in improving knowledge, attitudes, and malaria prevention practices among community members in an endemic area. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a control group design was conducted involving 220 community members. Participants were assigned to an intervention group that received participatory malaria prevention education and a control group that received educational leaflets with minimal explanation. A structured Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) questionnaire was administered before and after the intervention to measure changes in malaria-related knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices. Data were analyzed using comparative statistical tests and paired t-tests to determine differences within and between groups. Results: The findings demonstrated a statistically significant increase in knowledge and malaria prevention practices in the intervention group (p < 0.001). In contrast, the control group showed a modest but significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.006) and no significant change in prevention practices (p = 0.377). Neither group experienced a statistically significant change in attitudes toward malaria prevention (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Participatory education is more effective than conventional leaflet-based education in improving malaria-related knowledge and preventive practices. However, changing attitudes may require more intensive and sustained interventions. Integrating participatory approaches into routine public health programs is recommended to strengthen malaria prevention efforts in endemic community.

Abstract

This research uses a pre-experimental research method to examine the application of the Learning Starts With a Question (LSQ) learning method to science subjects in class V UPT SDN 40 Bangkala Maccini Baji, Jeneponto Regency. The LSQ method aims to increase students’ active participation in learning by encouraging them to ask questions and think critically from the start of the learning process. The research results show that the application of the LSQ method has a positive impact on students’ understanding and learning outcomes in science subjects. Based on research findings, several recommendations were submitted to schools, teachers and researchers. Schools are expected to support the wider application of the LSQ method by providing training for teachers and creating a conducive learning environment. Teachers are advised to continue developing skills in implementing LSQ by adapting learning strategies according to student needs and encouraging an interactive learning atmosphere. In addition, further research is recommended to explore other variables that can influence the effectiveness of LSQ and examine its application in different subjects and educational levels.

Abstract

The main problem in this research is that in learning activities students still lack focus and feel bored quickly during the teaching and learning process. This research aims to determine the influence of interactive media on student learning outcomes in class V science learning at SD INPRES BTN IKIP 1. This type of research is Quasi Experimental Design research and is a quantitative type of research. The results of the t-test analysis of the influence of interactive media on student learning outcomes in science learning show that the significance value obtained (sig = 0.000) is greater than the alpha value (0.000 < 0.05). It can be concluded that in this research H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted . Furthermore, it is known that the t-test is 4.519 with the error provisions a = 0.05; df = N= 58 so that t table is 1.673. So the influence of interactive media on student learning outcomes in class V science learning at SD INPRES BTN IKIP 1 Makassar City is significant.
