History Learning Resources Based on Local History: Kenduri Sko Apdelmi

Abstract

Kenduri Sko is an intangible cultural heritage of the Kerinci community that embodies historical, social, religious, and educational values with significant potential as a source of history learning. However, the integration of local cultural heritage into history education remains limited, as classroom instruction continues to rely predominantly on textbooks and national historical narratives. This study aims to analyze the values embedded in the Kenduri Sko tradition and examine its potential as a history learning resource through the perspectives of ethnopedagogy and critical pedagogy. A qualitative approach employing an exploratory case study design was adopted. The research was conducted in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, Indonesia. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with customary leaders and community members, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Kenduri Sko functions not only as a ritual to honor ancestors and express gratitude for agricultural harvests but also as a medium for transmitting historical knowledge, collective memory, cultural identity, and local values, including mutual cooperation, social solidarity, deliberation, responsibility, and environmental stewardship. From an ethnopedagogical perspective, the tradition provides a contextual learning resource that connects students with their local historical and cultural experiences. Furthermore, from the perspective of critical pedagogy, Kenduri Sko encourages students to develop historical consciousness, critical thinking skills, and awareness of the dynamic transformation of cultural traditions in response to modernization and globalization. This study concludes that Kenduri Sko has substantial potential to be integrated into history education through project-based learning, field studies, and oral history approaches, thereby strengthening historical literacy, character education, and the sustainable preservation of local cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of Berhala Island as a historical educational tourism destination for the public, students, university students, and teachers. Berhala Island is an entry point to the Riau Islands Province and has historical and cultural significance. The uniqueness of this island lies in its historical heritage related to Jambi Province. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that Berhala Island possesses historical relics connected to the origins of the Jambi kingdom, namely the Tomb of Datuk Paduko Berhala. In addition, the island also preserves evidence of the Japanese occupation in Jambi, such as Japanese cannons, kitchens, and bunkers. These historical remains can serve as valuable educational tourism attractions. Furthermore, the natural beauty of Berhala Island supports the development of experience-based history learning and the preservation of local culture for younger generations and the wider community.

Abstract

Tujuan: untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda, terhadap nilai religius, moral, sosial, dan budaya yang terkandung dalam tradisi mandi safar. Metode: menggunakan pendekatan pendampingan partisipatif melalui tahapan observasi, identifikasi kebutuhan masyarakat, sosialisasi nilai-nilai budaya, diskusi interaktif, refleksi bersama, serta evaluasi kegiatan. Pendampingan melibatkan tokoh adat, tokoh agama, masyarakat, dan generasi muda untuk memahami serta menginternalisasikan nilai religius, moral, sosial, dan budaya dalam tradisi mandi safar. Hasil: adanya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap nilai religius, moral, sosial, dan budaya yang terkandung dalam Tradisi Mandi Safar. Kegiatan pendampingan juga berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat, khususnya generasi muda, mengenai pentingnya pelestarian budaya lokal sebagai media pendidikan karakter dan penguatan identitas budaya masyarakat desa Air Hitam Laut. Kesimpulan: kegiatan pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendampingan berbasis kearifan lokal efektif dalam memperkuat pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap nilai-nilai tradisi mandi safar. Kontribusi: terletak pada penguatan pendidikan berbasis kearifan lokal melalui pemanfaatan tradisi mandi safar sebagai media internalisasi nilai religius, moral, dan sosial.

Abstract

Globalization opens wider access to information and knowledge, enabling individuals and communities to learn and develop in new ways. The purpose of this study is to describe, develop, and test the effectiveness of interactive teaching materials based on Kenduri Sko Local Wisdom to improve students' cultural understanding. This research method uses research and development. Research and development (R&D) in the field of education is defined as a development model that adapts industrial product development. Data collection techniques used are observation, questionnaires, and written tests. The results of the study show: 1) Effective and efficient teaching materials were obtained, 2) Teaching materials based on local wisdom are effective in improving students' cultural understanding, and 3) The effectiveness of teaching materials based on local wisdom was tested to improve students' cultural understanding, 4) These results indicate that there are significant differences in students' understanding of local wisdom between using interactive history teaching materials based on local wisdom and using books available at school. The implication of using local wisdom-based history teaching materials is that it provides more meaningful learning opportunities, where they can understand history through traditions that are close to their daily lives, such as Kenduri Sko.
