Abstract

One way to reduce the adverse effects of the heavy metals mercury in the aquatic environment are using organisms to break down or convert toxic substances into non-toxic forms, either by phytore- mediation or phycoremediation. This research aimed to analyze the growth and lipid content of Euglena sp. after mercury exposure. This research also aimed to analyze the growth of E. palaefolius which is associated with Euglena sp. In this study, the bioremediation ability of Euglena sp. and Echinodorus palaefolius through treatment with mercury concentrations of 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm, and 20 ppm, as well as association and non-association treatments. The parameters are the growth of Euglena sp. and the association between Euglena sp. andE. palaefolius measurement and lipid content. The result of the growth of Euglena sp. experienced a significant increase. Lipid content in Euglena sp. was also seen high at 10 ppm mercury concentration. In E. palaefolius, the ability to adsorb heavy metals was also shown by the large diameter of the stems and also the plant growth which has  optimal growth in the treatment of 10 ppm mercury stress.

Abstract

Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) are a serious threat not only for the elderly but also for the young. Based on a report from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) by 2022 that 1.57 million of the 8.75 million people living with type 1 diabetes worldwide in 2022 are less than 20 years old. This shows the importance of increasing public awareness about Diabetes Mellitus (DM). This PKM is carried out by providing education about the prevention and dangers of DM, then followed by a Temporary Blood Sugar (TBS) examination in the Jatimekar Bekasi village using brochure media. The increas in participantsÔÇÖs knowledge was carried out by analyzing the pre-test and post-test descriptively. The results of the study showed an increase in public knowledge about DM. this can be seen from the increase in post-test result compared to pre-test scores. GDS examination results include risk characteristics of 86.96% (110-200 mg/dL) and DM 13.04 % (>200 mg/dL). There are 3 counseling participants who suffer from DM and have a history of unhealthy eating patterns and not doing physical activity.

Abstract

Abstract

Euglena sp. contains several metabolites that play a role in various sectors, likely biofuels, food, feed, and pharmaceuticals. Multiple treatments are required to increase the content of Euglena sp. to support its use. In this study, a chemical stimulant in the form of lignosulfonate was added to Euglena sp. in order to increase its natural potency as measured by lipid, carbohydrate, protein, paramylon content, and biomass productivity. lignosulfonate is a macromolecular polyelectrolyte and anionic surfactant which is unique and multifunctional. This lignosulfonate can act as an emulsifier, dispersing agent, binder, and stabilizer of lipids in Euglena sp. cells. This can help improve the physical quality of pellets in Euglena sp. cells. In addition to the lignosulfonate chemical stimulator, it can affect the growth process of Euglena sp. so that it can produce good-quality cells. In addition, it also aims to determine the accumulation of significantly different metabolites. The method used was a Completely Randomized Factorial Design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications. The results obtained indicated that the addition of lignosulfonate was significantly different in the cell and protein density tests. Therefore, the optimal concentration of lignosulfonate can be used as an agent to increase the growth rate and metabolites of Euglena sp. significantly

Abstract

Introduction: Diffquick dying is one the methods of cytological dying. The diffquick method’s components is methylene blue. Methylene blue is toxic and non-biogradable so it requires natural dyes that do not have harmful properties for the body. Clitoria ternatea is a natural colorant that has an anthocyanin content and produces blue pigment and has been tested to color the nucleus of epithelial cells. Method: This research for the influence of temperature factors and long storage of the solution of clit extract as a nutarl colour subtitutes for methylene blue in the coloring of nucleus cells diffquick method. Research design is experimental with purposive sampling. The research was conducted in January-March 2024 at the sitohistotechnology laboratory. Results: The Mann whitney (sig.) test result 1.0>0.05 or H0 was received so there was no difference in the core color power of the cell with a 16% concentration of oak flower extract stored at 7-11⁰C dan 25⁰C as a substitute for the methylene blue dye in diffquick dyeing. Conclusion: This shows that there is no difference in the color power of the cell from the solution of the butterfly pea extract that are stored at showcase and room temperature.
