Abstract

Character education is essential, especially for the younger generation. Successful character education can be seen in students’ daily behavior, in how they apply vertical relation to God and horizontal regard to His creatures. To perform an effective character education, various methods and learning media can make students more excited at character values in the learning materials. The story method, mutalaah within the al-Qira’ah al-Rashidah Book 1 by Abdul Fatah Shabri Bik and Ali Amir Bik, includes some stories that contain noble morality. This study showed that character education through the story method has several stages, (1) the preparation of the syllabus and lesson plan, (2) the learning activity that covers opening, teaching-learning process, and closing. The process of planting moral values is carried out when a teacher explains the content and text of the lesson. Meanwhile, a formal evaluation is done in the semester test, besides daily assessment of student’s behavior in pesantren; (3) the story method through the learning mutalaah is considered effective in the development of morals because instinctively students like stories and are encouraged and motivated to practice the moral values in the mutalaah stories; (4) some factors supporting character education through the story method include the support of pesantren and principal, teacher’s linear educational background, and availability of decent infrastructure. On the contrary, the inhibiting factors include students’ diverse educational backgrounds, less motivation to study Arabic vocabulary, and lack of learning media that supports the delivery of learning materials.

Abstract

This research addresses the challenges faced by class X-2 students at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Jawami Cileunyi, Bandung, characterized by low proficiency in speaking Arabic. This issue stems from students' perception that Arabic is difficult and monotonous, compounded by the limited use of diverse teaching media during Arabic instruction. To overcome this, the researcher applied a cooperative learning model of the Team Game Tournament (TGT) type, incorporating Kokami media. The study aimed to evaluate students' Arabic speaking skills before and after implementing this model and to analyze the level of improvement achieved. In this study using a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design, the findings revealed that students' initial speaking skills were low. However, after employing the TGT model with Kokami media, their speaking skills improved significantly, reaching an average score of 76.85, categorized as good (70-79). The improvement rate of 0.05 or 50% indicates a moderate enhancement level. These results underscore the effectiveness of integrating cooperative learning with engaging media in improving speaking skills. The study implies that innovative teaching strategies can address motivational and skill-related barriers in language learning. Future research should explore the long-term effects of similar models, adapt them for other language skills, and investigate their application in diverse educational contexts to refine further and generalize these findings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the narrative structure in the story of Prophet Yusuf in the Quran, focusing on its dialogical elements. This research uses a qualitative approach; the study employs narrative analysis to explore how conversations contribute to the construction of the overall story. The following steps and strategies will be used in this research: (1) Text Collection: (2) Text Analysis (3) Literature Review (4) Conceptual Framework (5) Comparative Analysis (6) Interpretation and Conclusion (7) References: All sources used in this research will be listed in the reference list, including Qur'anic verses, scholarly literature, and other sources. By deeply understanding the dialogic narrative elements, the study aims to reveal the significance of conversation, its role in character development, and its impact on critical themes in the narrative. Employing Austin's speech act framework, specifically emphasizing imperative speech acts, the analysis centers on 29 instances identified in verses (9, 10, 12, 15). Additionally, a subset of seven imperative sentence structures, found in verses (29, 47, 88, 101), is explored to deepen understanding, emphasizing the locution component. The main findings show that dialog in this story is not just a conversation but also plays a role in building conflict, revealing character, and conveying important messages. This dialogic narrative analysis can provide deeper insights into how the story of Prophet Yusuf is presented in the Qur'ān and how dialog becomes an essential element in religious narratives. This research is relevant to understanding religious literature and Islamic wisdom and can provide valuable insights into studying sacred texts; this study highlights the critical role of dialogic narrative in depicting the story of Prophet Yusuf and presents a deeper understanding of religious narrative in the Qur'ān. However, limitations include the exclusive focus on imperative speech acts, overlooking potential nuances of other speech act types, and a lack of contextual considerations. Recommendations for further research include a more in-depth exploration of the cultural and linguistic context in the dialog, hoping to provide further insights into how the Quran uses dialog elements to convey messages and moral values. In addition, it is suggested that this research can be used as a foundation to develop a dialogic narrative model that can be applied to daily life stories and provide a better understanding of communicative aspects in the Islamic literary tradition.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' maharatul kalam (speaking skills) through the implementation of the Total Physical Response (TPR) teaching method in class IX A at SMP al-Ihsan. The TPR method is a language teaching approach that combines physical movement with verbal instructions, designed to create a more enjoyable and effective learning environment. This research employs a classroom action research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study are 15 students from class IX A at SMP al-Ihsan. Data were collected through observation, pre-tests, and post-tests related to maharatul kalam. Data analysis was performed using quantitative descriptive methods with product moment correlation testing and paired t-tests. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the TPR method significantly improves students' maharatul kalam. Students also reported that learning with the TPR method is more engaging and helps them more easily remember and use new vocabulary in everyday conversations. The TPR method has proven effective in enhancing the speaking skills of students in class IX A at SMP al-Ihsan. This method not only increases student participation and learning motivation but also improves their learning outcomes in speaking skills. Therefore, it is recommended that language teachers consider implementing the TPR method in their teaching processes to enhance students' speaking competencies. This study also suggests further research with larger samples and varied learning contexts to test the effectiveness of the TPR method more broadly.

Abstract

This study evaluates a streamlined approach to Arabic grammar instruction designed to help university students master Qirâ’at al-Kutub. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore the effectiveness of a simplified Arabic grammar teaching method in facilitating mastery of Qirâ’at al-Kutub. The simplified method addresses challenges in traditional teaching, improving comprehension and application of grammar in classical texts. Using pre-test and post-test analysis, the study recorded a 20% increase in average scores (65% to 85%) and significant reductions in fi'il mudhâri' errors (40% to 10%) and i’râb errors (50% to 15%). The method proved particularly effective for students struggling with conventional approaches, with 86% reporting improved confidence and comprehension. However, participants also highlighted the need for additional resources (82%) and support for complex texts (68%). This research offers a practical, inclusive solution to Arabic grammar instruction, fostering critical reading skills and deeper engagement with linguistic heritage. Future studies should explore digital tools, interactive platforms, and longitudinal impacts to refine and expand this approach in diverse educational contexts.
