Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on a micronutrient survey in 12 provinces in Indonesia, it is known that children aged 6 to 11 months consume lower nutrients than other age groups. Toddlers who do not receive complementary feeding have a 7.4-fold risk of causing stunting in children. This community service aims to increase mothers' knowledge in making the correct complementary feeding, how to give it, when to provide it, and screening the nutritional status of toddlers. Community service activities were conducted at the Olak Kemang Health Center, attended by 15 mothers and children. Based on community service, it was found that most of them were toddlers aged 30 to 36 months (60%), had the highest anthropometric status of good nutrition (standard), namely 73.33%, and the assessment of child development using the Pre-Screening Questionnaire for Development found that 93.3% of toddlers had normal development. Routine activities are needed to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding complementary feeding and screening the growth and development of toddlers to prevent stunting. Abstract

HIV/AIDS infection (ODHIV) remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. One of the main challenges in managing HIV/AIDS is adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy among ODHIV. Low adherence can lead to drug resistance, decreased quality of life, and increased risk of virus transmission. Factors influencing ARV adherence include stigma, discrimination, and the knowledge of ODHIV about the therapy. Education was conducted through group counseling, starting with a pre-test to assess participants' knowledge about HIV treatment. After the pre-test, a counseling session on "The Importance of ARV Adherence for People Living with HIV" was held, concluding with a post-test. A total of 27 participants took part in this activity, with the majority being male (59%) and the largest age group being 20-30 years (41%). Pre-test results indicated that 44% of participants had a low initial understanding. However, post-test results showed a significant improvement; 37% of participants scored in the 71-80 range, and another 37% scored in the 81-90 range. These results indicate that the education provided successfully enhanced participants' understanding of the importance of ARV adherence. Despite the improvements, challenges remain regarding adherence, particularly for those lacking family support. This highlights the need for additional strategies to enhance social support for ODHIV. Participation in this activity was predominantly male, with most participants having a high school education. The post-test results confirmed a significant increase in understanding compared to the pre-test. Puskesmas and community health workers should conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of ARV adherence to prevent loss to follow-up in treatment.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a growing public health concern worldwide, including in Indonesia. The Indonesian Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS) aims to empower individuals and families affected by DM through community-based health education. This study employed an educational intervention delivered through a counseling session on the importance of family medicine principles and dietary management for DM patients. A pre-test was administered to assess the participants' baseline knowledge, followed by the educational session, and concluded with a post-test. A total of 37 participants were involved in this activity, the majority of whom were middle-aged women with a senior high school level of education. Pre-test results indicated that 57% of participants had a low level of understanding. However, the post-test revealed a significant improvement, with 76% of participants achieving a score in the 6-10 range. Nevertheless, some participants still required further guidance. Despite the observed increase in knowledge, the application of family medicine principles within the PROLANIS program in the working area of the Rawasari Community Health Center remains suboptimal. The active engagement of participants during the question-and-answer session highlighted the need for additional support in implementing these principles. The educational program successfully enhanced participants' understanding of diabetes management. However, continuous monitoring and periodic evaluation by the Community Health Center and community health workers (cadres) are necessary to improve the application of family medicine principles within the PROLANIS program in its designated area. Abstract

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal complications. Preventive strategies based on local food resources offer a sustainable approach aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. This study describes a community-based intervention integrating nutrition, health education, and periodic monitoring among pregnant women in the Puskesmas Tahtul Yaman area, located along the riverside in Jambi. The intervention applied the Health Belief Model to enhance perceived benefits and reduce barriers, the Theory of Planned Behavior to strengthen attitudes and behavioral control, and Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory for contextual learning. Activities were conducted in two phases. In the first phase (gestational age 26–28 weeks, trimester 2), pregnant women attended sessions on preeclampsia and safe fish consumption, supported by cooking demonstrations using nutrient-dense river fish. They received fish-based meals twice weekly for six weeks. Maternal health was monitored through blood pressure, weight gain, and symptoms, while fetal well-being was assessed by ultrasonography. The second phase, eight weeks later (trimester 3), repeated maternal examination and ultrasonography for follow-up of pregnancy. None of the participants developed hypertension, fetal growth matched gestational age, and mothers showed improved knowledge of preeclampsia and its prevention, particularly through fish consumption. This community-driven model demonstrates the effectiveness of combining local nutrition, adult learning strategies, and regular maternal-fetal monitoring. It highlights a feasible, culturally sensitive, and sustainable approach to strengthen maternal health and prevent preeclampsia in resource-limited settings. Abstract

ABSTRACT Monitoring child growth and development at the community level is essential for the early detection of growth delays and developmental disorders. However, many Posyandu cadres still face difficulties in interpreting growth indicators due to limited technical training and the absence of effective visual media. This community service program aimed to improve the competence of Posyandu cadres in monitoring child growth and development through training on the use of visual aids. The program was implemented at the Tahtul Yaman Public Health Center, Jambi City, involving 30 cadres from 12 community health posts. The activities included needs assessment, development of flipcharts and posters, training and simulation sessions, field implementation, and evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in cadres’ knowledge, with the mean score increasing from 55 (pre-test) to 82 (post-test), representing a 49% increase. Participant feedback indicated high satisfaction, and the use of visual aids facilitated better understanding and interaction during health education sessions. This program demonstrates that visual-based participatory training effectively enhances cadres’ knowledge, confidence, and communication skills, and can be replicated to strengthen community-based early detection and stunting prevention programs. Keywords: posyandu cadres, visual aids, child growth monitoring, community empowerment, stunting prevention ABSTRAK Pemantauan tumbuh kembang anak di tingkat komunitas sangat penting untuk deteksi dini keterlambatan pertumbuhan dan gangguan perkembangan. Abstract

ABSTRACT Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a mandated learning process to prepare "collaborative practice-ready" healthcare professionals. This community service aimed to enhance the capacity of teaching staff at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) Jambi University (UNJA) as competent IPE facilitators, especially in evaluating students' interprofessional reflection abilities using the validated RESPECT instrument]. The training method was applied through lectures, discussions, and role-playing on giving constructive feedback. The activity successfully delivered material on reflection instruments and facilitator competencies to the target of 30 teaching staff. Facilitators were trained to be role models who emphasize reflection at both the professional and interprofessional levels, which is crucial for building a strong collaborative mindset and overcoming prejudices between professions. The result of this community service is a targeted increase in faculty capacity to assess student reflection, ensuring IPE implementation supports the creation of comprehensive healthcare services.
