Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms, firm size, and financial performance of manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Drawing upon agency theory and resource-based perspectives, this research examines how board size, the proportion of independent commissioners, and audit committee size influence financial performance, while also considering firm size as a key organizational characteristic. This study employs a quantitative explanatory design using secondary data obtained from annual reports of manufacturing companies over the 2019–2023 period. Panel data regression analysis is applied to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate that corporate governance mechanisms significantly affect financial performance. Specifically, the proportion of independent commissioners and audit committee size show a positive and significant relationship with return on assets (ROA), suggesting that stronger monitoring mechanisms enhance financial outcomes. Firm size also demonstrates a significant positive effect on financial performance, implying that larger firms benefit from economies of scale and better access to resources. These results confirm the governance–performance nexus in an emerging market context. This study contributes to the corporate governance literature by providing recent empirical evidence from Indonesia and highlighting the importance of governance structure and firm characteristics in improving financial performance. The findings offer practical implications for regulators, investors, and corporate managers in strengthening governance practices to achieve sustainable financial performance.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of digital workload on employee performance, mediated by employee loyalty and moderated by individual innovation behavior, with a generational perspective distinguishing between millennial and non-millennial employees. Utilizing a quantitative explanatory approach, data were collected via total sampling of 52 BAPPEDA employees and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling using Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA). Findings reveal that digital workload negatively affects performance, particularly among non-millennials, while employee loyalty and innovation behavior positively influence performance. Digital adaptation acts as a crucial moderator, buffering the adverse effects of digital workload and enhancing the positive impact of innovation. The study underscores the importance of digital literacy, innovation culture, and tailored generational strategies to optimize employee performance in digitizing public institutions.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology that is reshaping business processes, innovation, and competitiveness, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Despite its potential, AI adoption among MSMEs remains uneven and is often constrained by various technological, organizational, and environmental factors. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of AI adoption in MSMEs by conducting a qualitative synthesis of existing literature, focusing on the identification of key drivers, barriers, opportunities, and organizational impacts. This research adopts a systematic literature review (SLR) approach, guided by the PRISMA framework, to analyze 25 peer-reviewed articles indexed in Scopus. A thematic analysis was employed to systematically code and categorize the findings, enabling the identification of recurring patterns and critical themes related to AI adoption in MSMEs. The results reveal four major themes: (1) drivers of adoption, including technological readiness, organizational capabilities, competitive pressure, and perceived benefits; (2) barriers to adoption, such as financial constraints, lack of expertise, technological complexity, and organizational resistance; (3) opportunities enabled by AI, including enhanced operational efficiency, improved customer insights, innovation, and market expansion; and (4) organizational impacts, particularly in terms of performance improvement, digital transformation, innovation capability, and strategic alignment. The study contributes to the literature by providing an integrative and qualitative perspective on AI adoption in MSMEs, extending the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework with AI-specific insights. Practically, the findings offer guidance for MSME managers and policymakers in designing strategies to overcome adoption barriers and leverage AI for sustainable growth. Future research is encouraged to explore empirical and longitudinal approaches to further examine the dynamic nature of AI adoption in MSMEs.
