Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning outcomes of students in the Basic Physics course implemented through a contextual approach. This approach was applied to connect physics concepts with real-world situations in order to enhance students’ conceptual understanding. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method involving 62 students from the Geography Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, State University of Makassar, as research subjects. Data were collected through an essay-type achievement test that assessed conceptual mastery and the ability to apply physics principles. The results showed that 11.29% of students were in the “very good” category, 32.26% in the “good” category, 24.19% in the “fair” category, 19.35% in the “poor” category, and 12.90% in the “very poor” category. These findings indicate that the majority of students achieved results ranging from good to fair, demonstrating the effectiveness of the contextual approach in improving learning outcomes. The contextual approach helps non-physics students bridge the gap between theory and reality while shifting their learning paradigm from passive to active and reflective. Through direct experiences and analysis of environmental phenomena, students are better able to construct knowledge and develop interdisciplinary scientific thinking skills. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of legal awareness among business actors in registering their trademarks in the field of intellectual property at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Southeast Sulawesi. Legal awareness in this context includes the understanding, attitudes, and behavior of business actors toward the importance of legal protection for trademarks. The research method used is a juridical-empirical approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving MSME actors and officials from the Regional Office. The findings reveal that the legal awareness of business actors in Kendari City remains low, as indicated by the limited number of registered trademarks. Several inhibiting factors were identified, including lack of legal knowledge, the perception that the registration process is complex and costly, and insufficient outreach from relevant institutions. On the other hand, business actors who have registered their trademarks reported clear benefits, such as legal protection, increased competitiveness, and business legitimacy. Therefore, continuous educational and participatory approaches, along with inter-agency collaboration, are essential to enhance the legal literacy of business actors regarding trademark registration.

Abstract

Microcontroller-based learning is increasingly used in physics education; however, evidence of its impact on students’ conceptual understanding remains inconsistent. This study evaluated a project-based, sensor-integrated Arduino learning module designed to enhance students’ conceptual understanding in an undergraduate physics/electronics course. Using a one-group pretest–posttest design, the module was implemented with 59 students and developed through the 4D model. The learning activities were organized into iterative project cycles, including system design, programming, sensor calibration, data collection, and reflection. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, a conceptual understanding test administered before and after the intervention, and a student response questionnaire. The data were analyzed using feasibility ratings, normalized gain (g), a paired-samples t test, and Cohen’s d. Expert reviewers rated the module as highly feasible and very valid. Students’ conceptual understanding improved significantly, as indicated by a moderate normalized gain (g = 0.48) and a large effect size (d = 1.01). In addition, students reported high engagement and perceived the module as practical for learning. Although these findings are encouraging, the use of a single-group design and implementation at a single site limit causal inference and generalizability. Future studies are therefore recommended to employ comparative and multi-site research designs.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance environmental law literacy among members of HIMA PPKN FIS-H UNM in understanding the phenomena of floods and landslides that occurred in Sumatra in 2025 from the perspective of environmental law. The activity was carried out through a participatory discussion method, actively involving participants in question-and-answer sessions and the exchange of ideas related to the issues discussed. The results of the activity indicate a shift in participants’ perspectives in understanding disasters, which were previously perceived merely as natural events, toward a more comprehensive and critical understanding. Participants came to realize that floods and landslides in Sumatra are not only influenced by natural factors, such as tropical cyclone activity, but are also closely related to structural factors, particularly the legal framework that grants greater licensing authority to the central government than to local governments, as well as human behavior that tends to be exploitative and poorly controlled in the utilization of natural resources, whether by individuals, groups, or corporations. This understanding contributed to an increased awareness among participants of the relationship between legal policies, development practices, and large-scale deforestation, thereby demonstrating that the community service activity had a positive and significant impact in strengthening environmental law literacy among students.
