Abstract

Lung vital capacity is the status of physiological conditions associated with the ability to treat respiration together with the increasing of physical fitness, so lung vital capacity is a process involving the mechanism of the heart and blood vessels and blood which aims to provide O2 to cells in the body and transport CO2 out of body. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between lung vital capacity and the physical fitness level of Pendor Football Athletes from Universitas Riau. The collecting of data in this study is data from lung vital capacity tests and physical fitness with a sample of 20 athletes. Analysis of the data that used to process data is Product Moment correlation. For determining the significance of data, it uses formulation of t distribution. The results that obtained from lung vital capacity have a significant correlation with the level of physical fitness, this is indicated by the results obtained by r count (0622) > r table (α = 0.05) = 0.456. Meanwhile, t distribution test is obtained the result of t count (3,369) > t table (1,734). So H0 is refused and Ha is accepted. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between the lung vital capacity (x) and the level of physical fitness (y).

Abstract

Lactic acid is a by-product of anaerobic metabolism and is commonly associated with muscle fatigue. However, recent research suggests that lactic acid may also positively affect cognitive function. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between lactic acid and cognitive function in female volleyball athletes. The study involved 12 female volleyball players from the Student Education and Training Centre (PPLP) of Riau Province, and a total sampling method was utilised. Data collection involved cognitive function tests using the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) instrument and lactic acid measurements using Accutrend lactate. The results revealed a significant correlation between lactic acid and cognitive function, with athletes with higher lactic acid levels after the training session performing better on cognitive tests. This suggests that lactic acid may enhance cognitive function by increasing glucose availability, which serves as the brain’s primary energy source. However, it is essential to consider the potential negative effects of excessive lactic acid levels, such as muscle fatigue, breakdown, and lactic acidosis, on both of the body and brain. Despite demonstrating the role of lactic acid in cognitive function among female volleyball athletes, caution must be exercised to prevent undue lactic acid production. Overall, this study provides valuable insight into the intricate relationship between lactic acid and cognitive function, which has implications for optimising cognitive ability in female volleyball athletes and potentially in other professional sports. Future research is needed to establish optimal lactic acid levels for cognitive function in diverse athletic contexts.

Abstract

The 19th National University Sports Week (POMNAS) in 2025 in Central Java serves as the premier sports competition for Indonesian university students. The sepak takraw discipline, particularly the doubles event, demands a perfect blend of physical ability, technique, and team strategy. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the match management and processes that led the Riau sepak takraw team to win a silver medal in the team doubles event. The method used is qualitative descriptive with a case study approach, in which the researcher is an active participant (athlete). Data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and field notes during the selection process, preparation (General Preparation Phase and Specific Preparation Phase over 4 months), and the competition itself. The analysis revealed that the success in winning the silver medal was attributed to an open selection system, structured training periods, intensive training camps, and the team’s mental resilience. In the final round, the Riau team had to concede defeat to East Java with a score of 2-1. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that national achievements are the result of long-term commitment, discipline, team synergy, and the ability to manage competitive pressure. These findings provide practical contributions to the development of an evidence-based sepak takraw development model at the regional level.

Abstract

Background: Despite extensive research on biomechanical determinants of spike performance, evidence linking perceptual–kinaesthetic abilities to sport-specific execution remains limited. Objectives: This study examined the relationship between kinaesthetic perception and spike performance in volleyball. Methods: A correlational design was used with 40 male physical education students (non-elite players). Kinaesthetic perception was assessed using the Kinaesthetic Obstacle Test (KOT), and spike performance was evaluated through an on-court accuracy test. Pearson’s correlation was applied. Results: A significant positive relationship was found between kinaesthetic perception and spike performance (r = 0.614, p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (r² = 0.377) indicates that kinaesthetic perception accounts for 37.7% of the variance in performance. Conclusion: Kinaesthetic perception is meaningfully related to spike performance, supporting its role in perceptual-motor integration during complex open skills. However, performance is multifactorial, and findings are limited to a non-elite sample. Future studies should incorporate additional physical and perceptual variables and employ designs that allow stronger inference.
