Abstract

Waste problem is considered as the global issue. Many areas are still facing difficulty in managing waste due to the lack of knowledge especially in waste recycling. Household waste is a common problem experienced by the Matesih Village community, Karanganyar, Central Java. This community service aims to raise awareness of the community about the importance of household waste recycling and to train them in processing the household waste into the liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). The target of this community service was 10 women of Family Welfare Development (PKK) community. The methods used in this activity were transfer of knowledge and demonstrating. This training produced 16.7 liter of LOF with average pH of 6. Based on the survey, participants were satisfied with the socialization and training activities and willing to continue the program of making LOF independently.

Abstract

Medicinal plants and traditional medicines since ancient times have played an important role in maintaining health. Traditional medicinal plants become an alternative in the treatment of a disease. The purpose of this community service is to increase public understanding about the use of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). The method in this activity is to provide counseling about the types and benefits of family medicinal plants and the provision of medicinal plant seeds to be planted in KWT Ngasem. The result of this activity is an increase in public understanding and interest in the use of TOGA and starting to cultivate it.

Abstract

The residents of Ngasem Village already possess knowledge about the importance of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). However, they are not yet familiar with the benefits and methods of processing these medicinal plants. KWT Berkah Tani 2, located in Ngasem Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, has a large yard that remains underutilized, presenting the potential for planting TOGA. Therefore, the objective of this community service initiative is to educate the members of KWT Berkah Tani 2 about family medicinal plants, covering everything from planting to their health benefits. The program was carried out in six stages, including pre-testing, initial socialization, TOGA planting, simple processing of traditional medicinal products, post-testing, maintenance activities, and supervision. Ten types of medicinal plants were cultivated on a 700m2 area. The TOGA education program successfully increased participants' knowledge of basic TOGA concepts by 50%. Furthermore, there was a 20% rise in the number of participants who planted TOGA in their yards, and a 61.5% increase in knowledge regarding the health benefits of TOGA.

Abstract

The community service was conducted at the Putri Aisyiyah Orphanage in Bekonang, Sukoharjo, Central Java. This orphanage has yard space that has not been utilized for Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) and is not yet familiar with the concept of an eco orphanage. The main objective of this service is to provide education about TOGA to the children at the Putri Aisyiyah Bekonang Orphanage. The service activities comprise six phases: pre-test, socialization, TOGA planting, practices in processing traditional medicinal products, post-test, and maintenance and supervision. The outcomes of the service activities include the planting of twenty types of medicinal plants in the orphanage's yard. Participants' knowledge increased after receiving education about TOGA, encompassing basic knowledge of TOGA (12.4%), types of TOGA and their characteristics (38%), and the health benefits of TOGA (33%). There was an enhancement in participants' knowledge regarding the types and benefits of TOGA, with an average total increase of 27.7%. Thus, this service has succeeded in providing education about TOGA to the children at the Putri Aisyiyah Bekonang Orphanage and enhancing their understanding of the types of TOGA and their health benefits.
