Abstract

Heart disease has become the leading cause of death in the world in the last 15 years. This disease has several primary risk factors, one of which is hypercholesterolemia. Cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver is influenced by the activity of the rate-limiting enzyme, HMG-CoA reductase. Traditional herbal medicine provides alternative treatment for hypercholesterolemia. Both pulai and papaya leaves were reported as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. There has been very limited study however, on the efficacy of a mixture of aqueous extracts of the two in inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase. This study aims to determine the activity of a mixture of water extracts of both pulai and papaya leaves. The activity of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase was measured by Abcam® kit No. Ab204701 by spectrophotometric method at 334 nm. The results showed that the three extracts of the combination of pulai and papaya leaves had four times better inhibitory action than the single extract (p0.05). The results of the phytochemical literature study showed that the aqueous extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins

Abstract

Social media platforms have exposed consumers to a large amount of either accurate information or misleading information. The quick spread of information through electronic word-of-mouth on social media networks has made it difficult for consumers to distinguish between marketer-generated content and user-generated content. This study aims to identify the factors that influence consumers when making purchasing decisions and to establish a comprehensive framework for consumers in the digital marketing. The study aimed to investigate how technology acceptance, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), and perceived risk affect information adoption by users in social media marketing. The study collected data from 213 social media users in Semarang via an online survey and used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings showed that information trustworthiness and information adoption were intermediaries between information quality, usefulness, perceived risk, argument quality, and information adoption. The study suggests that the quality and usefulness of the information are significant factors that affect the adoption of information. For social media marketers, providing high-quality and balancing useful information can increase consumer chances of adoption, thereby leading to purchase intention. The findings highlight for the marketers to ensure that the information provided is of high quality and relevant to the target audience. Abstract

The black soldier fly (BSF) maggot, a bioconversion agent for organic waste, can generate stable materials like compost. Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), recognized for its numerous health benefits, is the subject of this research. The primary objective of this study was to assess the impact of applying BSF maggot bioconversion compost on the bioactive compound profile in the ethanol extract of lemongrass plants. Lemongrass cultivation was conducted in Sindangjaya Village, Cipanas, West Java, Indonesia, employing a randomized complete block design with a single factor. The single factor was the type of fertilizer, namely: control (P1), organic manure fertilizer (P2), and maggot fertilizer (P3). The introduction of BSF maggot bioconversion compost to the growth medium significantly affected the plant height (at 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks after planting) and wet weight (including stems, leaves, roots, and shoots). Ethanol extraction and identification with LCMS/MS (Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry) instruments revealed 48 compounds. Each treatment group (P1, P2, and P3) contained 37, 30, and 35 compounds, respectively. These compounds consisted of various groups, including amino acids, terpenoids, alkaloids, quinolines, carbohydrates, methoxyphenol, benzodioxole, diphenylmethane, and steroids. Abstract

The potential of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus), BSF) maggots as the source of biopharmaca, has not been extensively studied. This research aimed to identify bioactive compunds in BSF maggot extract that potentially activate antioxidant signaling mechanism. BSF maggots fed with vegetable waste were extracted based on maceration method with water, methanol, and acetone as solvents. Forty bioactive compounds were identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry: 15 were in the aqueous extract, 13 were from methanolic extract, and 12 were in the acetone extract. Most of those compounds (90%) were having high bioavailability score (= 0.55 or more) and relatively low toxicity (500 mg/Kg<LD50<5000mg/Kg BW). Molecular docking predicted that there were 26 bioactive compounds potential to activate cellular antioxidant signaling through activation of NRF2 transcription factor, better than the commercial NRF2 activator. The aqueous extract compound with PubChem CID: 73775828 was the best one that inhibited NRF2 signaling by binding to Keap-1 protein (PDB ID: 6FFM) with Gibbs free energy (ΔG) = -6.08 Kcal/mol and dissociation constant (Kd) = 3.58 í— 10-5 µM. Whereas inhibition of inflammation via NF-kappa B signaling was shown by an aqueous extract compound verpacamide A which bound inhibitor NF-kappa B kinase (IKK2) (PDB ID: 4KIK) with ΔG = -5.024 kcal/mol; Kd = 0.207 í— 103 µM. This potency was better than that of aspirin. In conclusion, BSF maggot extracts are source of biopharmaca with potential cellular antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract

Alstonia scholaris R.Br belongs to family Apocynaceae, is one of medicinal forest plant as traditional medicine to treat fever, malaria, cough with phlegm, diarrhea, diabetes, cholesterol-lowering, intestinal worms, acute rheumatism, ulcers, and hypertension. One of the causes of heart disease, atherosclerosis, and cancer is oxidative stress. The stress can be cured or reduced by taking antioxidant. Flavonoid, a phenol compound class, is one of the secondary plant metabolites that function as antioxidant. This paper determines total levels of phenol, flavonoid, and antioxidant activity of Alstonia *stem bark extract (Alstonia scholaris R. Br). Quantitative determination of total phenolics with the folin-ciocalteu method expressed as mg of gallic acid equivalent (GAE) per gram of extract, total flavonoids content by AlCl₃ method expressed as Quercetin equivalent (QE), and in vitro antioxidant activities with DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method expressed in terms of IC₅₀ (inhibition concentration). Results show that extraction of three replicates in maceration with 96% ethanol yielded 4.19% filtrate. The total phenolic content was 51.50 mg GAE /g extract, while the total flavonoid content was 0.35 mg QE /g extract. IC₅₀ value of antioxidant activity assay of stem bark extract was 211.54 µg/mL.
