Abstract

The perception of gender stereotypes is still an issue inherent in the nursing profession, especially for male nursing students. The view that nursing is an identical profession to women can influence the interest of male students in planning and determining a career in nursing. This study aims to determine the relationship between the perception of gender stereotypes and the career interests of male nursing students at Gorontalo State University. This study uses a correlational analytical design with a cross sectional approach. The research sample amounted to 76 male nursing students who were taken using the total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires on the perception of gender stereotypes and career interests, while data analysis used the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that most students had a positive perception of gender stereotypes as many as 60 respondents (78.9%), and career interest was in the high category as many as 40 respondents (52.6%). The results of the Spearman Rank test obtained a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which shows that there is a relationship between the perception of gender stereotypes and interest in a career as a nurse in male nursing students at Gorontalo State University. So based on the results of this study, it is hoped that the campus, especially the nursing department, can increase education and support efforts to build a positive perception of the nursing profession in male students.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose levels in the long term due to insulin disorders and is a growing public health problem. Prolonged hyperglycemia can lead to a variety of complications, including diabetic neuropathy, through peripheral nerve damage and microcirculatory disorders. Therefore, the length of suffering from diabetes mellitus needs to be studied as a factor that plays a role in the occurrence of diabetic neuropathy to support prevention and early detection efforts. This study aims to determine the relationship between the length of time suffering from diabetes mellitus and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in patients who are treated at the South Bulango Health Center. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross sectional design and involved 116 respondents who were selected through proportional stratified sampling techniques. The research instrument used was the Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom Score (DNS) questionnaire. The results showed that respondents had diabetes mellitus for a long time <5 years, as many as 48 respondents (41.4%) had diabetic neuropathy and 37 respondents (31.8%) did not experience diabetic neuropathy. Meanwhile, in respondents with diabetes mellitus for a long time ?5 years, most of them had diabetic neuropathy, namely 27 respondents (23.2%), and only 4 respondents (3.4%) did not experience diabetic neuropathy. The results of the statistical test using the chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0.002 (<0.05), which shows that there is a significant relationship between the length of suffering from diabetes mellitus and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus at the South Bulango Health Center.

Abstract

HbA1c is the result of glycemic control of DM patients over the last 2–3 months, so it is more accurate than just using a momentary blood glucose test. Poor HbA1c control has a significant impact on a variety of complications, including impaired sexual function. Sexual dysfunction in diabetic patients is not only influenced by physiological factors, but also by psychosocial factors such as depression, anxiety, and sexual self-perception disorders (sexual self-concept. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between HbA1c levels and sexual function disorders in patients with diabetes mellitus in the internal room of Prof. Dr. H. Aloei Saboe Hospital, Gorontalo City. The design of this study uses quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. The study population amounted to 74 DM patients with a sample of 42 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. The instruments in this study are questionnaires (IIEF) for men and (FSFI) for women. The statistical test used was the chi square test with the result of a p-value = 0.006 (< 0.05) where there was a relationship between HbA1c levels and impaired sexual function in patients with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, it is hoped that health care facilities need to integrate screening for sexual dysfunction disorders in the education program for DM patients

Abstract

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) remain a global public health crisis, with the increasing number of cases in Indonesia, including Gorontalo, indicating a lack of public knowledge and high social stigma as major obstacles. Advances in information technology offer significant opportunities for health promotion. HiVisitScreen is a modern, website-based digital platform developed as an educational medium to provide up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS, facilitate safe and confidential health access, and reduce the spread of HIV. This descriptive quantitative study, using a cross-sectional design, aimed to describe user satisfaction with the HiVisitScreen website among 150 active students at Gorontalo State University (UNG). User satisfaction was measured using the 13-item End User Computing Satisfaction (EUCS) questionnaire. The results show that overall, users were satisfied with the HiVisitScreen website, with a total mean score of 3.45 (Satisfied category). Among the five EUCS dimensions, Ease of Use had the highest mean score of 3.51 (Highly Satisfied category), emphasizing the application's user-friendliness and accessibility. Meanwhile, the Content dimension received the lowest mean score of 3.40 (Satisfied category), indicating that while the information is relevant and clear, improvements are needed in the completeness and suitability of the content to specific user needs, supporting the plan to add prevention features for serodiscordant couples. The HiVisitScreen website has successfully met user expectations and has the potential to function as an effective website-based intervention in HIV case management within the campus environment.

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable group to the risks of sexual violence and HIV transmission due to limited sexual literacy, insufficient access to accurate reproductive health information, and strong socio-cultural taboos surrounding sexuality. Comprehensive interventions are needed to equip adolescents with adequate knowledge, attitudes, and gender-sensitive decision-making skills. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a PLISSIT-based Comprehensive Sexual Education intervention in improving adolescents’ attitudes toward HIV transmission prevention from a gender equality perspective. This quasi-experimental study involved 100 students selected through simple random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received four PLISSIT-based educational sessions integrating gender equality principles, while the control group received conventional sexual education. Data were collected using pre- and post-test questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a substantial improvement in adolescents’ attitudes after the intervention. Prior to the intervention, only 18% of students demonstrated good attitudes toward HIV prevention, while 82% were categorized as poor. After the intervention, 90% of students in the experimental group showed good attitudes, and only 10% remained in the poor category, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that the PLISSIT-based comprehensive sexual education model is effective in shaping positive attitudes by providing a safe space for discussion, relevant information, and gender-responsive guidance. In conclusion, the PLISSIT-based intervention significantly enhances adolescents’ attitudes toward HIV prevention and can serve as a strategic approach in school-based reproductive health education.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS remains a major public health concern worldwide, and stigma toward People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) continues to hinder prevention and treatment efforts, particularly in regions with limited health literacy. In Gorontalo City, community stigma persists due to misconceptions about HIV transmission, exaggerated fears, and culturally embedded moral judgments that associate HIV with deviant behavior. This study aims to describe the level of community stigma toward PLWHA in Liluwo Village and identify factors contributing to these attitudes. Using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, the study involved 185 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. A structured questionnaire assessed respondents’ HIV/AIDS knowledge, religiosity, and stigmatizing attitudes. The findings reveal that 102 respondents (55.1%) demonstrated stigmatizing behaviors, characterized by avoidance of physical contact, reluctance to live near PLWHA, fear of sharing public spaces, and inaccurate beliefs about how HIV is transmitted. Meanwhile, 83 respondents (44.9%) exhibited no stigma, showing higher levels of HIV-related knowledge, a better understanding of scientific facts about transmission, and a more empathetic and inclusive approach toward PLWHA. The variation between these groups highlights the crucial role of health literacy, cultural norms, and access to accurate information in shaping community attitudes. The study concludes that reducing stigma requires comprehensive and continuous educational interventions, targeted health promotion, and active involvement of community and religious leaders to build a more supportive environment for PLWHA. Strengthening public understanding is essential to ensure equitable treatment and improve the well-being of those affected by HIV.
