Abstract

 This research was to analyze social support, communication patterns, decision making, and family well-being; the correlation among research variables; and variables that influence to communication patterns, decision making, and family well-being of long distance family. This research involved 75 families that were selected by snowball sampling. Data was analyzed by descriptive, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results showed that families had high social support from nuclear family and moderate social support from big family and friends. Comunication pattern between participants with their couple and child in high category. Comunication pattern correlated significantly with family’s income per capita and contribution of wife’s income. Communication pattern was influenced by social support. Results also indicated that most decision in  family was taken together although they are long distance family. Decision making was influenced by amount of family members. Based on objective and subjective family well-being indicator, most family had high level of welfare. Subjective well-being was influenced by social support and communication pattern.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of family characteristic, lifestyle, financial management, and coping strategies toward the fisherman families well-being (objective and subjective). The study involved 88 fisherman families which having school children and were chosen purposively. Data was collected by interview and analyzed by descriptive, hierarchical cluster analysis, multiple linear regression analysis, and logistic regression analysis. The research results showed that the lifestyle of fisherman families were family oriented. Financial management was categorized as medium. When they were having the decrease of income, they tend to do cutting back as coping strategies rather than generating income. Most of fisherman families are classified as nonpoor by objective indicator. The objective well-being was influenced by the family size and family income per capita per month. Meanwhile, the subjective well-being of fisherman families were categorized as medium. The subjective well-being was influenced by wifes’ age and productive oriented lifestyle.

Abstract

Analysis of influence of the child’s economic value and motivation on self-esteem of child labor in one of the business center in Bogor District was the goal of this research. The study involved 40 child laborers and their parents that were selected by snowball. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-test and multiple linear regression test. The results showed that parents' perceptions of child labor related future of child’s economic value and the child’s economic value currently in the moderate category. Motivation of child labors (intrinsic and extrinsic) and self-esteem were also in the moderate category. Self-esteem of child labor increased by increasing length of child to attend formal education and decreased in children who was dropping outs of school. Selfesteem of child labor was also decreased with decreasing extrinsic motivation.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program onfamily’s well-being in Batulicin mining area, South Kalimantan. This study applied a combination of cross-sectional andretrospective design. The data were collected in Sarigadung village. Samples in this study were poor families, whom distinguished by the benefits that received from CSR program. Samples were 70 families that selected purposively; half were identified as CSR program receiver families while other difined as nonreceiver family of CSR program. The results showed that more than three-forth of the samples considered CSR programs were very positive. Generally, the family’s income increased after followed CSR program. Number of poor families under the poverty line decreased and the number of satisfied family increased. Total income of receiver families of CSR program was higher than nonreceiver families. This research also found there was no significancedifference between subjective wellbeing of receiver and nonreceiver families of CSR program. Factors that affected objective family wellbeing were family size and the benefits of CSR, while the factors that influence subjective family wellbeing were occapation status of wife and the benefits of CSR.

Abstract

Program of Women’s Movement for Home garden Optimization (GPOP) was one of the government's efforts to encourage families to manage home garden optimally in order to improve the family well-being. This program wasconducted since 2011 by Ministry of Agriculture. The aim of this research was to analyze the well-being of GPOP participant’s family and nonparticipant’s family in Depok City, West Java Province; and to analyze the factors that influenced the well-being. This research involved 60 GPOP participants’ family and 60 nonparticipant’s family that chosen by random sampling. Family well-being measured by using objective indicator based on poverty line according to BPS and subjective indicator based on assessment of wive on various aspects of her family well-being. This study found that even families who did not become participants of GPOP had higher achievement of optimization of the home garden than participants. The results showed that most familyies, both participants and nonparticipants, had been prosperous according to the measurement of two indicator, objective and subjectife assessment. However, the level of the family well-being of participants was higher than nonparticipants. Moreover, family’s well-being was affected by the amount of family assets, but it was not influenced by membership of GPOP.

Abstract

In achieving better child well-being, international and Indonesia have agreed to increase efforts in the protection of children, including increasing the capacity of parents to perform better parenting. Time-shared activities among parent and children are important factor to create qualified parenting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the time-shared activities among parents-children and child protection in the family and its influence on children’s subjective well-being. This study was a cross-sectional design. Study sites were selectedpurposively at Ciputri Village, Pacet Sub District; and Sindang Jaya Village, Cipanas Sub District, Cianjur DistrictWest Java Province. One hundred and twenty families were purposively chosen among farmer families. Findingsshowed that the time-shared activities among parents-children were categorized as in low level. Child protection in physical aspect was in the low category but the environmental protection of child was in high category. Children’s subjective well-being was in the high category. Independent variables that influenced the children’s subjective well-being were time-shared activities among parents-children and physical protection. It was recommended to conduct socialization about the importance of child protection and time-shared activities amongparents-children on improving children’s subjective well-being among farmer families.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the value of children and preferred number of children among eligible couples in rural and urban areas. Specifically, the research examined the family characteristics, the value and preferred number of children, and the visit of family planning providers between rural and urban areas; and assessed the influence of the independent variables on preferred number of children. The design of the study was cross-sectional; and involeved 60 married women aged 15-49 years old from eligible couples who resided in Sirna Sari Village, Tanjung Sari, Bogor as a representative of rural areas and 60 of those who resided in Gudang Village, Bogor Tengah, Bogor as a representative of urban areas. The results of mean test confirmed that education level of both husband and women, the age of first marriage, the visit of family planning providers, the value of children, value of children in cost dimension, and preferred number of children were different among those who lived in rural and urban areas. Moreover, the results showed that region of residence, the age of first marriage among women, living children, family income per capita, and the visit of family planning providers affected significantly preferred number of children.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to analyze the influence of child characteristics, family characteristics, and family welfare on quality of home environment on preschool aged children. The samples involved 120 formal and nonformal preschool age children in Sungai Penuh District, Jambi Province that were chosen by stratified random sampling. Data was collected by interview and observation, and also was analyzed by descriptive analysis, correlation test, and multiple linear regression test. Based on poverty line indicator, families were divided into welfare families and nonwelfare families. The results showed that 45,8% families was welfare and 54,2% families was nonwelfare. The quality of home environment was measured by scale of Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (HOME) and was divided into good and less. Parent provided language stimulation, responsivisity, and modeling into good quality, while the availability of learning materials, physical environment; academic stimulation, variety of stimulation, and acceptance into less quality. The quality of home environment was influenced by child’s age and sex, family size, maternal education, and family welfare.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze family expenditure allocation and welfare of bagan fishermen. Research conducted in Sarang Tiung Village, Pulau Laut Utara Subdistrict, Kotabaru. This research involved 50 families who have a bagan consisting of 50 husbands and 50 wives selected by simple random sampling method. Data was collected by interview with wife and husband using questionnaire. Variables measured include of characteristics the family, expenditure allocation, and family welfare of bagan fishermen. Data was analyzed using descriptive, correlation test, independent sample t-test, and multiple linier regression test. The result showed a greater proportion of food expenditure (61,06%) than nonfood expenditures (38,94%). Most of bagan fisherman families are classified as nonpoor by objective welfare indicator. Husband well-being is higher than wife, especially in physical-economy dimension. There are significant difference between subjective well-being husband and wife with p<0,001. Subjective well-being the husband influenced by family size, health, and communication spending. Subjective well-being the wife influenced by amount of bagan, communication, and social activities spending.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the differences between characteristics, sources of stress, coping strategies, and stress level based on marital status (married and single) and also to analyze the influence of characteristics, sources of stress, and coping strategies on stress levels of women workers. The study was conducted in the TBG garment factory, Bogor City, West Java. The study involved 120 women workers (60 married women workers and 60 single women workers) that was selected by stratified random sampling. Data was collected by interview and was analyzed by descriptive analysis, independent samples t-test, and multiple linear regression. The results showed that age, income, sources of stress, and coping strategies of married woman worker was higher than single women worker, whereas stress level of married women worker is lower than single women worker. The increasing of income per capita and emotional focus coping can decrease stress level of women worker.
