Abstract

The low critical thinking skills of students in Indonesia are a serious problem, characterized by minimal active participation in discussions, lack of analytical skills, and low learning motivation. This study aimed to analyze self-efficacy's role in shaping students' critical thinking skills through self-regulation and academic motivation as mediators. This study involved 384 randomly recruited from 63,556 students at one of the universities in Madura. The research instruments used were the critical thinking scale (α = 0.85), self-regulation scale (α = 0.82), academic motivation scale (α = 0.86), and self-efficacy scale (α = 0.88). All scales have met psychometric requirements and have been validated using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that self-regulation and academic motivation positively affect self-efficacy, which then becomes a mediator in improving students' critical thinking skills. This study emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach in Higher Education to develop critical thinking skills by strengthening students' internal factors. Implications for further research will be discussed.

Abstract

Verbal bullying is a form of psychological aggression that often decreases students' resilience, defined as the ability to recover and adapt to stress or trauma. This study aims to explore the resilience levels of students who are victims of verbal bullying at Universitas Negeri Malang, identify the influencing factors, and provide evidence-based intervention recommendations. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, using surveys as the data collection tool. Resilience was measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) with purposively selected respondents. Data analysis through descriptive statistics and mean tests showed no significant differences in resilience based on gender, age, or social support. The results indicate that resilience is influenced by internal factors such as self-esteem and emotional intelligence, as well as external factors such as social support. The study recommends integrating peer counseling based on role modeling and professional counseling to enhance resilience, along with emotional intelligence training, strengthening social support, and fostering a supportive campus environment.

Abstract

Academic resilience is an increasingly relevant issue in the digital age, particularly as students face mounting academic demands alongside rapid technological advancement. Students who struggle to adapt to new technologies often experience heightened stress and reduced academic performance. This study investigates the mediating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between social support and academic resilience among university students. Employing a correlational causal design, the study surveyed 424 students from Pasuruan, East Java, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using validated scales measuring perceived social support, self-efficacy, and academic resilience. Path analysis, supported by SPSS 22.0, revealed that self-efficacy significantly mediates the effect of social support on academic resilience (Sobel Z = 13.491, p 0.01). The indirect effect of social support through self-efficacy (β = 0.569) was notably stronger than the direct effect (β = 0.082), indicating that students' belief in their own abilities plays a more critical role in fostering resilience than external support alone. In essence, students with low self-efficacy may perceive themselves as incapable of overcoming academic challenges, even when supported by others. Conversely, those with high self-efficacy remain confident and persistent, even in the face of limited social support. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening both internal psychological resources and external support systems to enhance student resilience. Institutions should prioritize integrated interventions, combining peer support, counseling, and self-efficacy development, to foster adaptive coping mechanisms and long-term academic success.

Abstract

Grit plays a pivotal role in supporting students’ academic success, especially when navigating challenges in higher education. This study examined the relationship of internal locus of control on grit with social support as a moderator among undergraduate students. Conducted among 423 undergraduate students from six universities in Malang City, East Java, the study utilized Cluster and Random Sampling techniques. Data were gathered using Indonesian-adapted scales: the Triarchic Model of Grit, Academic Locus of Control, and Multidimensional Perceived Social Support. Data analysis was performed using the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) method. The results showed that internal locus of control has a significant influence on students' grit, with social support serving as a moderating variable (F Change = 16.245, p = 0.01). This finding suggests that social support enhances the effect of internal locus of control on students' grit, referring to the assistance and encouragement individuals receive from their social networks. Keywords: grit, internal locus of control, social support, undergraduate students, moderation

Abstract

Career adaptability is an essential competency for Generation Z students in addressing the challenges of a dynamic and uncertain labor market. This study aims to analyze the role of religious values in shaping the career adaptability of Generation Z students. Employing a descriptive phenomenological approach, the research explores students’ subjective experiences in integrating religious values, such as honesty, integrity, and gratitude, into the career adaptation process. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews with school counselors and students, as well as distributing instruments to vocational high school students representing Generation Z. Thematic analysis of qualitative data revealed that religious values serve as moral pillars that provide direction, mental resilience, and confidence in making ethical and sustainable career decisions. Quantitative results using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test (Asymp. Sig. = 0.005) showed a significant improvement in the career adaptability of students in the experimental group. These findings were further supported by the Mann-Whitney U test (Asymp. Sig. = 0.020), confirming the effectiveness of integrating religious values into students' career readiness. Additionally, qualitative data revealed that experiential learning approaches positively contributed to students' psychological well-being. Students reported increased self-confidence, self-awareness, and stress management skills that support their readiness to navigate the dynamics of the labor market. This study underscores the importance of religious values in fostering adaptive, ethical, and sustainable career development among Generation Z students.
