Abstract

This research is motivated by the ineffectiveness of the teaching materials circulating in improving students' critical thinking skills at Elementary School. This study aims to (1) describe the criteria for the development of inquiry-based LKPD; (2) Knowing the eligibility criteria of inquiry-based LKPD and (3) Knowing the improvement of critical thinking skills using the developed LKPD. This type of research is research and development using a 4-D model which consists of the defining, design, development and dissemination stages. The results of development and research show that (1) The characteristics of inquiry-based LKPD include the stages of fostering responsive activities, posing problems, asking questions, formulating hypotheses, testing hypotheses and drawing conclusions; (2) The LKPD eligibility criteria based on validity value 0f 3.67 (very valid) and practicality value of teacher and students or 3,5 and 3,6 (Excellent) and (3) Worksheet There was an increase in students' critical thinking skills with an N-gain score of 0.68 (medium category). Based on these results it can be concluded that the student worksheet based on inquiry is feasible, practical, and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in Science Learning at elementary school.

Abstract

Lembar Kerja Peserta Ddidik (LKPD) yang tersedia saat ini memiliki desain yang kurang menarik, terlihat dari pemilihan warna yang kurang menarik, ruang untuk mengisi jawaban terlalu sempit, bahan kertas yang mudah rusak, serta pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang tersedia kurang memicu daya pikir kritis siswa. Di sisi lain LKPD yang digunakan di Sekolah Dasar kurang sesuai dengan gaya belajar dan perkembangan peserta didik. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan LKPD berbasis model inkuiri dengan kualitas yang lebih baik dalam pembelajaran tematik terpadu sekolah dasar. Pengembangan LKPD dilakukan dengan model 4D (Define, Design, Development and Dissemination). LKPD telah sesuai dengan materi Tema 2 Selalu berhemat energi, subtema 1 sumber energi, pembelajaran 1 dan pembelajaran 3 khususnya pada mata pelajaran IPA kelaas IV Sekolah Dasar. LKPD menggunakan model inkuiri untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis yang dikembangkan pada penelitian ini valid dari segi isi dan konstruk. Validasi LKPD aspek materi diperoleh rata-rata 3,59 dengan kriteria sangat valid. Aspek soal diperoleh rata-rata 3,59 dengan kriteria sangat valid. Aspek tampilan diperoleh rata-rata 3,46 dengan kriteria valid. LKPD yang digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran berpengaruh positif pada hasil pembelajaran siswa.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in primary education as it plays a critical role in supporting students’ understanding of various subject areas. However, many elementary school students still experience difficulties in comprehending texts effectively. This study aims to identify problems in reading comprehension learning and to formulate instructional pedagogical strategies to improve students’ reading comprehension. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using a survey method. Data were collected through open- and closed-ended questionnaires distributed to 81 classroom teachers of grades 3 to 6 across elementary schools in West Sumatra. The findings indicate that although students demonstrate relatively high interest in reading, they encounter difficulties in identifying main ideas, retaining information, and connecting texts with prior knowledge. These problems are influenced by monotonous teaching methods, limited instructional media, unsupportive classroom environments, and diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The results also reveal the need for more interactive, contextual, and collaborative reading instruction supported by varied pedagogical strategies. Therefore, this study proposes instructional pedagogical strategies emphasizing interactive reading activities, collaborative discussions, contextual text engagement, and differentiated reading support to enhance students’ reading comprehension. These strategies provide practical guidance for teachers in designing more effective reading instruction and fostering active student participation. The implementation of structured pedagogical strategies is expected to improve students’ reading comprehension skills and support their overall academic development in elementary education.
