Abstract

This study aims to improve the skill of sewing culottes for eleventh-grade students with hearing impairments through the explicit instruction learning model. This research employs classroom action research (CAR) with a qualitative approach, conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the classroom teacher. The subject of the study was one eleventh-grade student with hearing impairment in class XI-B at SLB Muhammadiyah Pauh IX Padang. Data were collected using test instruments to assess the student's culotte sewing skills and non-test instruments, including observations, documentation, and interviews, to evaluate the student's responses to the learning process. The research was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics for quantitative data presented as sewing skill percentages, and Miles and Huberman's qualitative analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the student’s initial average skill was 50.69%. After Cycle I, the average increased to 63.75%, and after Cycle II, it reached 82.08%. These findings indicate that the explicit instruction model, applied in a structured and step-by-step manner, effectively enhances the sewing skills of students with hearing impairments.

Abstract

A student with intellectual disabilities who has not been able to read nouns that are often encountered around students with a KV-KV pattern. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of RUMBI media to improve word reading skills in students with intellectual disabilities. This study uses a quantitative approach with the methods used during the study, namely A-B-A and Single Subject Research (SSR). Data analysis used is visual graphic analysis. Three repetitions of stage A1 were completed, producing results of 20%, 20%, and 20%. Seven times the intervention stage (B) was carried out with the following results: 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. Baseline (A2) is the final stage which was carried out three times with scores of 80%, 80% and 80%. Children's motivation and interest in learning can also be increased by providing intervention through RUMBI media. This leads to the conclusion that the use of RUMBI media is effective in improving the ability to read nouns with a KV-KV pattern for children with mild intellectual disabilities in grade V at SLB Negeri 1 Solok.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential utilization of palm kernel shell waste as an alternative fuel to replace coal in steam power plants. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive and comparative approach based on various previous studies. The analysis was conducted by comparing energy characteristics through calorific value, electricity generation capability represented by the energy ratio, and economic aspects reflected in fuel prices and energy costs. The results show that palm kernel shells have an average calorific value of approximately 4,300 kcal/kg, which is relatively close to medium-grade coal with an average value of around 5,000 kcal/kg. In terms of electricity generation capability, the energy ratio of palm kernel shells ranges from 0.935 to 1.160 MW/ton, while coal ranges from 1.158 to 1.724 MW/ton. Although coal demonstrates relatively higher energy efficiency, palm kernel shells exhibit a significant economic advantage due to their lower fuel price, resulting in energy costs of approximately IDR 906,000–925,000 per MW, compared to coal which ranges from IDR 1,434,000–1,456,000 per MW. Therefore, palm kernel shells have strong potential as an alternative fuel that is technically feasible and more economically efficient, particularly in regions with abundant availability of palm oil waste.

Abstract

Rat (Rattus spp.) pest infestations are a major constraint to rice productivity in Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, with potential losses reaching 60–70% and even crop failure. Conventional methods currently used by farmers, such as chemical rodenticides and electric traps, have proven ineffective in the long term and have negative ecological impacts. This Community Service (PKM) activity introduced the Owl House (RUBUHA) innovation as a sustainable biological control approach by involving farmer groups in Meurah Dua Sub District. The implementation method includes five stages: socialization, theoretical and practical training (30%–70%), application of RUBUHA in demonstration plots, intensive mentoring, and development of sustainability strategies. Evaluation of farmer knowledge was conducted through pre- and post-tests, while productivity impacts were measured based on harvest data before and after technology implementation. The implementation results showed an increase in rice productivity from 6.1 tons/ha to 7.2 tons/ha, with an estimated additional income of IDR 5–6 million/ha. Farmers' knowledge and skills increased by 70%, indicating the success of learning-by-doing-based technology transfer. In addition to economic benefits, the implementation of RUBUHA also reduces the use of chemical rodenticides, thus positively impacting the environment. The results of this PKM are not only relevant in supporting local food security and farmer welfare but also align with the achievement of the SDGs. Replication Innovation Rubuha to other regions is recommended as part of a community-based Integrated Pest Management strategy.
