Abstract

n the process of teaching the Arabic language, including reading skills, there are still many students who struggle with learning it. Teachers also do not use methods that could facilitate students' understanding of the material presented. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom learning model in improving reading skills (maharah Qira'ah) in class X students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Sukoharjo. This research is a quantitative research using pre-experimental method with one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 30 students as samples. The research instruments were pretest and posttest tests to evaluate students' reading skills before and after the intervention. It was prepared based on the curriculum of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Sukoharjo. The results showed a significant increase in posttest scores (82.00) compared to the pretest (54.33), with a statistical significance value of only 0.001. This increase shows the effectiveness of the Flipped Classroom model in improving students' reading skills. This model is considered effective because it has achieved the expected learning objectives, namely an increase in learning outcomes as evidenced by the results of posttest scores.

Abstract

Translation in the context of film media is often influenced by the ideologies of the translators and production companies. This influence can significantly shape how meaning is conveyed to audiences from different cultural backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the translation techniques used in the subtitles of the film "Theeb" through a pragmatic approach to understand how translators handle the intentions behind the film's dialogue. A descriptive qualitative research method is employed to analyze the conversation transcripts from the film. Speech act theory is applied to explore how various translation techniques are used to convey the original intentions of the dialogue accurately. The findings reveal that seven out of the eighteen translation techniques proposed by Albir and Molina are utilized in the film: literal translation, modulation, idiomatic, established equivalent, compensation, and adaptation. This research provides insights into the application of speech act theory in film subtitle translation and identifies effective techniques for accurately conveying speech intentions in different cultural and linguistic contexts. The study underscores the necessity for translators to consider cultural context and ideologies in translation to ensure that the subtitles are both accurate and culturally sensitive. Further research should explore translation techniques in films from diverse cultural backgrounds and examine the impact of translators' cultural backgrounds on their translation choices.

Abstract

Wordwall is one of the applications that is widely used in learning foreign languages. In Arabic language learning, wordwall is still studied and researched only at the level of qualitative research or only at describing its application process in learning. However, no one has tested it in the framework of the experiment to see its effectiveness. This study investigates the effectiveness of learning Arabic using Wordwall based on learning outcomes. It uses a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. It recruited 72 first-year students in the Arabic language reinforcement program under UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta Language Development Center. The primary data is collected using pretest and posttest results, and then the results are analyzed using the t-test. Findings revealed that using Wordwall in the Arabic learning process effectively improved the student's Arabic skills.

Abstract

Tadris al-'Arabiyyah al-Mukatssaf (TAM) is a course given to semester 1 students of Arabic Language Education, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Kediri. This course aims to prepare new students with standard Arabic language skills so they will be able to learn Arabic language courses in the next semester easily. The development of this textbook is based on contextual teaching and learning (CTL) because CTL is a student-oriented approach which can lead students to become more active and can generate self-directed in learning. The textbook development uses the ADDIE procedure with 5 development steps and ends with an experimental test to reveal the effectiveness. This research produced a textbook Tadris al-'Arabiyyah al-Mukatssaf based on Contextual Teaching and Learning with its seven principles, which are: constructivism, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflection and authentic assessment. This textbook contains 21 dars (units). Each dars (unit) contains 4 material: 1) ta'bir al-shuurah, 2) hiwar, 3) nash qiraah, and 4) qawaid. In hiwar, nash qiraah and qawaid are equipped with practice questions and a list of mufrodat and Arabic expressions. The results of the effectiveness test with the pre-test and post-test designs revealed that the average post-test score was at 65.33, higher than the pre-test average score at 56.35. Total T count of 9.90 is higher than T table of 1.98 which means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. With a Pearson correlation value of 0.64 greater than 0.05, the use of books proved to be effective.

Abstract

Willingness to Communicate (WTC) plays a crucial role in second language acquisition, significantly influencing both the frequency and fluency of language use across different contexts. This study examines the levels of WTC among students in the Arabic Language Education (PBA) and Arabic Language and Literature (BSA) programs at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia, within three communicative settings: in-class (IC), out-of-class (OC), and digital contexts (DC). The research further investigates the underlying psychological and contextual factors that shape students’ WTC in Arabic. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected from 213 participants  and analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative insights were derived from focus group discussions. Results reveal that BSA students consistently demonstrate higher WTC across all contexts, particularly in classroom interactions. Contributing factors include the learning environment, perceived language competence, and psychological variables such as anxiety and self-confidence. The study underscores the importance of supportive pedagogical environments and participatory teaching strategies in enhancing students’ communicative motivation. By identifying both enabling and inhibiting factors, this research contributes to Arabic language education discourse by advocating for context-sensitive interventions that foster communicative competence and sustain language use in diverse academic and social settings.

Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of the effectiveness, enjoyment, engagement, and preference in using Wordwall-based activities for learning Arabic vocabulary. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the research involved 38 Arabic language students at an Islamic university who had direct experience using five types of Wordwall-based games, including quiz-based, matching, and puzzle activities. A descriptive survey was first used to map student preferences across the four criteria. Subsequently, thematic analysis of open-ended responses was conducted to explain the quantitative trends. Each game was integrated into vocabulary learning sessions, after which participants completed a questionnaire consisting of four multiple-choice and four open-ended questions. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the frequency and percentage of preferences, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically to explore underlying reasons and insights. Thematic analysis followed the key stages of familiarization, coding, theme identification, and interpretation, focusing on themes such as ease, challenge, reward systems, time, and visual displays. Results indicate that Gameshow Quiz is perceived as the most effective and preferred game, whereas Maze Chase and Find the Match stand out for their interactivity and visual appeal. Overall, the findings emphasize the pedagogical value of game-based learning in enhancing student engagement and vocabulary acquisition in Arabic language instruction.
