Abstract

The Law of the Sea increasingly developed in the 19-20 centuries marked by the 1982 UNCLOS Convention on the Law of the Sea. This research discusses the role of UNCLOS in handling South China Sea disputes. And how is the settlement of the South China Sea dispute based on the International Court of Justice? This study uses qualitative methods based on secondary data sources derived from books, the internet, documents, journal articles, media, and others. The theory used in this study is one of the theories of positivism with an international law approach. The South China Sea dispute began with China's claims to the seas listed on its Nine Dashed Line map. Cases of disputes over the jurisdiction of the ICJ against the agreement of the disputing parties are to be submitted to the International Court of Justice. Cases submitted to the International Court of Justice contain the determination of the matters in question as well as various kinds of questions submitted to the International Court of Justice. If viewed from the perspective of positivism, the position of national law is higher than international law, so the claims of the South China Sea that have existed since the Han dynasty cannot be denied if China itself does not ratify international law and does not ratify UNCLOS and still adheres to the principles of national law or jurisdiction of its country. As the International Court of Justice, this dispute should be resolved by the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice.

China is one of the countries that adheres to communist ideology just like the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The failure of the Soviet Union became a lesson for China to re-organise its national defence policies and strategies. This research applies qualitative research methods with literature study data analysis techniques. The Chinese foreign policy approach analyses China's strategy for maintaining its sovereignty. Abstract

Turkey is the first Islamic country to officially adopt the principle of secularism, a significant change pioneered by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. The radical implementation of secularism separated religion from state affairs, triggering complex political and social dynamics between Pro-Islam and Pro-Secular groups. In recent decades, particularly under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey has witnessed a resurgence of Islamic values in politics and public life. Erdogan has succeeded in winning the hearts of the majority of the people through a narrative of Islamic-based national identity, economic development, and a populist approach, which has gradually shifted the dominance of secularism. This study aims to analyse the increasingly intense ideological struggle between Islamism and Secularism and to map contemporary political developments in Turkey. The method used is library research, involving the examination of various relevant academic and media sources. The results of this study offer a deeper understanding of the political and ideological dynamics in Turkey, as well as the impact of the conflict on domestic policies, Turkey's regional position, and the international community's response. Furthermore, this study also reveals how political contestation, mainly through elections, influences the national identity and social order of Turkish society today. Keywords: Secularism; Islamism; Turkish Election; Islamic Revival

Abstract

This study aims to explain CNN's media framing and Instagram's shadow-banning censorship policy related to Israel's aggression against Palestine since October 2023 as an action that contains a constitutive construction of interests. Through CNN's media coverage, the situation between Palestine and Israel is not described as an aggression, occupation, or genocide but as a conflict that occurred due to Hamas's attack on Israel. CNN even only uses diction that places Israel as the party being attacked and limits exposure to the loss of life in Palestine caused by Israel's aggression. The international community sympathises and provides their views regarding the developing situation but is hampered by Instagram's censorship policy through shadow banning. By using an interpretive approach to observe CNN's reporting and Instagram's shadow banning, the results of this study show that both contain US-Israeli constitutive interests in manipulating and controlling international perceptions. This refers to the interest in constructing intersubjective understandings related to Israel's positive image, which simultaneously eliminates Palestine's existence as a nation-state.Keywords: CNN; Instagram; Israel; Knowledge Constitutive Interests; Media Framing; Palestina; Shadow Banning

Abstract

This type of research is qualitative research, using Liberal Institutional theory and the concept of SDGs. Data collection was conducted through desk research and secondary data techniques to obtain the necessary data. The Miles and Huberman model identifies three main processes in data analysis: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This research was conducted as an effort to find out the extent of UNIDO's contribution and implications in the development of the sustainable fisheries sector and towards sustainable development (SDGs) No. 14 in Indonesia in 2019-2023. This research provides academic benefits by enriching the literature on the role of international institutions in the development of sustainable fisheries sector. Practically, the results of this study serve as a guide for policy makers and fisheries industry players in improving quality and sustainability standards. The implementation of Indonesia's GQSP has been going well in all sectors, as a whole. Based on the targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), GQSP has achieved 100% of 52 Output KPIs, 80% of 33 Outcome KPIs and 67.3% of 7 Impact KPIs. In its contribution to improving quality infrastructure and services, strengthening producers and value chains, and building a culture of quality, these aspects have a major contribution. This can be seen from the growth of Indonesian fishery product exports over the past five years (2017-2022). In 2017 Indonesia reached an export figure of 1.08 million tons worth USD 4.52 billion and to 1.22 million tons worth USD 6.24 billion in 2022. UNIDO through GQSP Indonesia has successfully improved the overall quality of Indonesia's fisheries industry. NQIS has brought significant positive impacts in various aspects of fisheries industry development.

Abstract

Pierre Nkurunziza's candidacy for a third term as president of Burundi has triggered an increase in crimes against humanity in Burundi and prompted the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an investigation. In 2016, under Nkurunziza's leadership, Burundi withdrew from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Using an explanatory qualitative research design, this research discusses the factors behind Burundi's decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) during the Nkurunziza administration. Data was collected through literature studies from various books, journals, and national and international official websites. The analysis used the rational actor model approach and classical realism theory to explain Nkurunziza's policy regarding Burundi's withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The analysis shows that Nkurunziza's decision to withdraw Burundi from the International Criminal Court (ICC) is based on cost-benefit considerations. Costs obtained by Burundi include loss of attachment to the Rome Statute, a reduction in Burundi's international reputation, and an impact on Burundi's diplomatic relations. While the benefits received by Burundi; Pierre Nkurunziza / state officials are free from International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations into humanitarian violations, have domestic legal control, reduce internal political tensions, and allow the state to apply policy flexibility. This shows that the correlation between state leaders and a country's policies is interrelated.
