Abstract

Degenerative diseases are common health problems among the elderly, arising from the natural aging process, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and long-term exposure to various risk factors. Limited knowledge regarding early symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures often leads to poor awareness and delays in early detection among older adults. Therefore, health education and simple health screening are essential to enhance the elderly’s understanding and awareness of degenerative disease prevention. This activity was conducted door to door for 15 elderly residents in Dusun 1, Suka Sari Village. The intervention included health education using leaflets, two-way communication, and simple health checks in the form of blood pressure measurement. Elderly individuals who previously had limited understanding became more aware of their health conditions and the importance of early prevention. Blood pressure measurements also indicated the need for continuous monitoring, particularly related to hypertension risk.

Abstract

Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar levels due to impaired insulin function. This condition can lead to complications if not properly controlled. Physical activity is one of the ways to control blood sugar levels because it can increase insulin sensitivity and help the body's cells utilize glucose. Therefore, physical activity is an important part of managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This study aims to determine a correlation between physical activity and blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Sawah Lebar Health Center, Bengkulu City in 2025. The research method used a cross-sectional design with a correlational approach. The research sample consisted of 94 respondents selected using total sampling technique. Physical activity data were collected using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), while blood sugar level data were obtained through random blood sugar testing using a glucometer. The results showed that most respondents had moderate physical activity (60 people or 63.8%), light physical activity (22 people or 23.4%), and heavy physical activity (12 people or 12.8%). Blood sugar level tests showed that 71 respondents (75.5%) had normal blood sugar levels and 23 respondents (24.5%) had high blood sugar levels. The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), which means that there is a significant correlation between physical activity and blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. The researcher recommends that respondents maintain regular physical activity to help control blood sugar levels in type II diabetes patients.

Abstract

Helminthiasis is an infectious disease caused by Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) parasites and remains a health problem for elementary school-aged children. Worm infections can impact nutritional status, reduce immunity, and affect children's concentration and academic achievement. One preventative measure is through health education using engaging learning media such as PowerPoint presentations to increase knowledge and foster positive attitudes about helminthiasis prevention. The method used was a quantitative study with a pre-experimental design using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The study was conducted at SDN 89 in Bengkulu City, with a sample of 46 respondents drawn using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a knowledge and attitude questionnaire, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that before the education, the majority of respondents (30 respondents (65.2%) had a positive attitude and 16 (34.8%) had a negative attitude, with a median of 27. After the education, the median increased to 32. The knowledge variable also saw an increase in the mean and median scores between the pre-test and post-test. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant effect of education using PowerPoint media on students' knowledge and attitudes about helminthiasis at SDN 89, Bengkulu City, in 2025. It is recommended that schools and health workers optimize the use of PowerPoint media or other visual media in providing health education to increase understanding and encourage clean and healthy living behaviors in students.
