Abstract

This study aimed to differentiate lard from tallow and palm oil based on its electrical properties, namely conductance, impedance and capacitance. These properties were measured at spectra frequencies of 4.20 to 5.00 MHz in room temperature (26-27 oC). Statistic multivariate that consist on principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) were used to evaluate the data. The results showed that lard and tallow can be differentiated using whole parameters electrical properties of materials. On the other hand, lard and palm oil can only be differentiated using part of the material electrical properties. Good performance of differentiation process was obtained using PCA model at 4.91 to 4.98 MHz. The first two components of PCA, which was derived from conductance, impedance and capacitance, contributed more than 90% of the total variances. CA showed that lard and tallow are different groups based on the Euclidean distance of each electrical properties. This technique can be potentially developed as an electrical sensor for differentiation lard to tallow and palm oil.

To get more information about its ripening off, the tree characteristics a respiration pattern was determined. The data were collected on fi ve trees for each ten selected accessions (n=50) for fruit ripening uniformity on its trees study and fi fteen bunches for each seven selected accessions (n=105) for fruits bunches ripening uniformity study at two jatropha pilot projects at Sabah state of Malaysia at the end of March 2009 when the trees were exactly one year old. This study confi rmed that heterogeneous ripening occured in all jatropha accessions and within individual jatropha bunches. Respiration tests confi rmed that jatropha is a climacteric fruit. The results showed an upsurge in CO2 production at the end of ripening and at the beginning of senescence. This study has revealed indications of the possibility to harvest jatropha fruit in bunches rather than harvesting individual ripe fruit, which could potentially improve harvest effi ciency by reducing harvesting time and drudgery. Abstract

For producing oil remains that remained at old oil wells (mature field), a method of advanced oil acquirement improvement known as an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) should be applied. Surfactant plays an important role in EOR process by reducing interfacial tension (1FT), altering wettability, reducing oil viscosity, and stabilizing dispersion to facilitate the process of oil jetting from reservoir to production well. To optimally cleanse oil that still remained a surfactant compatible with formation water and reservoir is needed. This study was conducted to get the best time of sulfonation process for producing MES surfactant with lower interfacialtension for EOR application. Results showed that the best times of sulfonation process with lower interfacial tension value were 3 and 4 hours.

Abstract

Year by year, globally the production of petroleum decreases but its demand increases. The world will get the energy crisis including Indonesia if that condition happens continously. Because of that, Indonesia starts to develop IOR (improved oil recovery) method for their oil fields.  IOR method is an improvement of the secondary phase in which the oil recovery is expected to increase oil production.  One method of IOR is chemical injection with surfactant for injection.  Surfactant is dissolved with injection water and injected to reservoir.  Generally, surfactant of petroleum sulphonates is used for oil recovery.  Due to the weaknesses of petroleum suphonates such as not resistant in high salinity and high hardness water, therefore it triggers to get surfactant substitute like MES (methyl ester sulphonates) that is synthesized by bio-oil from Jatropha curcas L.  The study was aimed to know the performance of MES surfactant formula from jatropha oil for IOR in fluid sample of oil field and synthetic sandstone core.  The best condition from this research was surfactant 0.2 PV with the soaking time of 12 hours. This formula gave the highest of  incremental total oil recovery 61%. The number were resulted from 48% waterflooding and 13% surfactant injection.

Abstract

Data mining process on dynamically changing data have several problems, such as unknown data size and changing of class distribution. Random sampling method commonly applied for extracting general synopsis from very large database. In this research, Vitter’s reservoir algorithm is used to retrieve k records of data from the database and put into the sample. Sample is used as input for classification task in data mining. Sample type is backing sample and it saved as table contains value of id, priority and timestamp. Priority indicates the probability of how long data retained in the sample. Kullback-Leibler divergence applied to measure the similarity between database and sample distribution. Result of this research is showed that continuously taken samples randomly is possible when transaction occurs. Kullback-Leibler divergence with interval from 0 to 0.0001, is a very good measure to maintain similar class distribution between database and sample. Sample results are always up to date on new transactions with similar class distribution. Classifier built from balance class distribution showed to have better performance than from imbalance one.

Abstract

Sodium lignosulphonate is a product of isolated lignin sulphonation process using NaHSO3 as sulphonation agent. This research was proposed to produce sodium lignosulphonate , to identify and to charactirize the product as dispersant agent. The lignin sulphonation process was conducted by ratio of reactant variable (NaHSO3 and lignin) 60.32%, pH 6.03 and temperature at 90.28 OC on batch reactor. The identification was carried out by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrophotometer (LCMS). Identification using FTIR and LCMS spectrophotometer indicated that SLS produced from this study has similar characteristic with SLS standard from Aldrich (SLS-Aldrich). Performance test of SLS as dispersant materials for gypsum paste pointed out that this SLS has lower performance than SLS-Aldrich. This was caused by the purity of SLS standard, 96%. Nevertheless SLS still fulfilled the characteristic as dispersant materials for gypsum paste because it has purity of more than 80%. Keywords: lignin, sulphonation, sodium lignosulphonate, dispersant

Abstract

ABSTRACTSurfactant is a surface active agent that has an ability to reduce interfacial tension (IFT). This ability has been used in an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process to increase oil well poductivity, particularly in chemical stimulation. Methyl ester sulfonate (MES) is an anionic surfactant that can be used to substitute a commercial surfactant for the EOR process. The parameters such as salinity, kind of rock, temperature, pressure, and carrier are important parameters that can influence performance of surfactant in reducing interfacial tension. The research of  = 5% and  = 1% that is based on temperature effect and time of heating showed that temperature increased interfacial tension value. The research of  = 5% and  = 1% that is based on temperature effect and acid concentration showed that temperature and acid concentration increased interfacial tension value. The IFT value is affected by temperature and acid concentration. Keywords : methyl ester sulfonate, interfacial tension, temperature, and acid
