Abstract

This study aims to find the optimal nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) concentration isolated from oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) particles to form stable pickering emulsions against creaming and coalescence. The emulsification process is based on a combination of homogenizer and ultrasonication. Pickering emulsion was prepared by mixing the dispersed phase (palm oil) and the dispersing phase (NFC concentration of 0.05 - 0.7 w/v%) at the ratio of 10:90. Fresh emulsion has a milky white appearance and is homogeneous. However, some samples' creaming process occurred on the 30th day of storage. Microscopic observations show that the droplets are round with various sizes. Differences in NFC concentrations significantly affect droplet size, zeta potential, rheology, and emulsion stability. Increasing the NCF concentration resulted in smaller droplet sizes, viscosity, zeta potential, and pickering emulsion stability. The emulsion has high stability against coalescence and creaming. NFC at 0.7 w/v% generates an emulsion with the best characteristics and high stability against creaming and coalescence. OPEFB-based NFC has the potential as a pickering emulsion stabilizer particle that can be applied to the food and non-food industries.

Abstract

Tubers, as a highly promising agricultural commodity with distinctive flavors and nutritional content, pose health challenges due to the presence of calcium oxalate. Excessive consumption can lead to mechanical disturbances in the digestive and renal tubule systems. This complicates processing techniques to ensure that tubers, before being used as raw materials in the food and other industries, do not contain calcium oxalate. The research method involves a literature review, in-depth exploration of theories and concepts, and identification of variables related to the research method and context. From the literature study, it is evident that focusing on understanding fermentation parameters, such as time, temperature, pH, and the type and concentration of microorganisms, is crucial. This information is expected to provide insights into potentially effective methods for reducing calcium oxalate content in tubers, supporting the development of safer and healthier agricultural and food processing practices.

Abstract

The synthesis of ketones from stearic fatty acids using the fatty acid decarboxylation method to ketones has been carried out to increase the added value of palm oil derivative products. One of the derivative products of palm oil is Crude Palm Oil which can be converted into fatty acids through the triglyceride hydrolysis process. Palm fatty acids are Indonesia's most potentially environmentally friendly raw material. This research aims to synthesize ketones from palm fatty acids using a catalyst. Ketone compounds were synthesized using a solid base catalyst as a double hydroxide layer based on Mg-Al-Cu. Identification of the presence of a C=O ketone group was carried out by testing the Fehling test, Tollens, spectrophotometer (FTIR), and computing the yield. The results showed the success of ketone synthesis using the fatty acid decarboxylation method into ketones through a test of Fehling's on stearic fatty acid ketone products. Meanwhile, in the Tollens test, there wasn't a change in the silver mirror. Furthermore, the spectrophotometer test (FTIR) showed the presence of a C=O bond or a carbonyl group at the peak wave 1707 cm-1. Ketone's synthesis produced was 95.09%.

Abstract

Previous research on Spatial Skyline Query Based on Surrounding Environment left a challenge in finding skyline objects that support the use of mobile devices. This study introduces a method that allows users to search for spatial objects dynamically. Cloud-based streaming data services are currently available to support the dynamic search of spatial skyline objects. Under these conditions, streaming data requires a longer processing time. This study aims to examine the effectiveness and efficiency of Apache-Spark in developing Spatial Skyline Query Based on Surrounding Environment in processing streaming data. Further implementation of the developed algorithm can provide better location access for users on mobile devices. Comparative analysis of algorithm execution time is performed by comparing algorithm processing on a single processor and cluster computing using various evaluation parameters. The test results on each parameter show that the computation time of the proposed algorithm on a single computation is not as good as the previous algorithm. However, in cluster computing, the proposed algorithm is superior

Abstract

Abstract— The challenges for providing a concise performance reports along all components in Palm Oil agro-industry supply chain are urgent particularly in terms of managing each metrics of the stakeholders. This SCOR (Supply Chain Operation Reference)-based information model attempts to represent real requirements of each stakeholder. Initially, all relevance stakeholders are identified through field observation and interviews. Each SCOR model attribute, i.e. agility, assets, cost, reliability and responsiveness are mapped into respectfully definition in the field of Palm Oil agro-industry. The related attribute is derived into metrics of evaluation for measuring specific performance according to the formulation. In order to report a definitive performance measurement in each attribute, benchmarking from best practice is taken. This model functionality is evaluated by using real world data derived from two major provinces of Palm Oil agro-industry in Indonesia, namely Jambi and Riau provinces. Object relational database is generated and stationed in a cloud-based server. A framework of business process modeling and notation integrates these required processes of the model with the cloud-based database access. The integration of JavaScript (Bonita soft) based front-end with the SCOR-based database operation is ready for mobile and desktop usage. A series of visualization is provided to support fast understanding in each performance measurement, such us spider chart, histogram and line chart as well as ETL (extract, transform, load) features. A full comparison based on geographical location is ready for inquiry for each user level (farmer, trader and palm oil mill).Keywords—Agro-industry, Information, Palm Oil, Performance, SCOR

Abstract

Indonesia’s prevailing waste management paradigm, which still employs a collect-transport-dispose system, results in waste accumulation and adverse effects on health and the environment. In contrast, the cement sector’s necessity for renewable and environmentally benign energy is increasing. Refused-derived fuel (RDF) technology is one of the potential ways to solve both concerns. This study aimed to assess the viability of RDF manufacturing processes and products for the cement industry and to offer recommendations for a national standard. This research procedure included identifying waste composition and characteristics, observing RDF production, and evaluating RDF product quality, such as testing water content, ash content, and heating value. The results demonstrated that the Cilacap RDF Plant successfully produced RDF from municipal solid waste using the mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) method. The biodrying process could reduce waste’s moisture content from 55.44% to 23.63% and increase the heating value to approximately 15 MJ/kg. Nevertheless, the quality of RDF products must be enhanced to align with the biomass standards for the industry (SNI 8675: 2018). The Cilacap Plant RDF products were feasible for application in the cement industry, with further product quality improvement and production process optimization. The findings could be a reference for developing national standards in manufacturing RDF as an alternative fuel in the cement industry.

Abstract

The ability of a recommendation system to deliver relevant outcomes is significantly influenced by its adaptability to the dynamic nature of individual user preferences. Data-streaming-based recommendation systems face substantial challenges in aligning recommendations with rapid shifts in user preferences. Previous research on the development of skyline query algorithms has predominantly focused on processing efficiency and parallel performance optimization yet has not addressed the dynamic nature of individual user preferences—an essential factor for generating relevant and responsive recommendations in streaming data environments. This study aims to develop a skyline query algorithm called Distributed Data Skyline (DDSky) to provide recommendations based on dynamic individual user preferences within data-streaming contexts. DDSky leverages the Recency, Frequency, Monetary, and Rating (RFMRT) model to capture real-time changes in user preferences. This model is integrated with parallel skyline computation and structured to enhance the data processing efficiency on a large scale. The parallel processing approach divides tasks into smaller subtasks executed simultaneously across multiple threads. This strategy enables the simultaneous processing of attributes such as price, distance, and individual user preferences, thereby delivering relevant and responsive recommendations to real-time changes in user preferences. The DDSky algorithm was evaluated using a local dataset from the JALITA application and compared with the Eager algorithm. The results demonstrated that DDSky outperformed Eager, achieving an average recall value of 0.45 and an F1-measure of 0.55, compared to Eager's recall value of 0.33 and F1-measure of 0.47. Furthermore, DDSky achieved an average precision of 0.73, which closely approached Eager's precision of 0.82. Additionally, DDSky exhibited optimal throughput performance for datasets containing up to 10,000 items with high flexibility across various data types. With its unique technical approach, DDSky delivers more responsive and relevant recommendations to dynamic user preferences, establishing its superiority in data-streaming-based recommendation systems.

Abstract

Transportation is a crucial factor that significantly impacts the supply chain. Because there aren't enough roads and other ways to get around, it's hard for one of the companies in OKU Regency that makes crude palm oil to get its products to customers, especially when it rains. The company that produces cooking oil received a delivery of crude palm oil, accounting for 90% of total production, from PT.X. The delivery of crude palm oil to PT.Y was received later than the original schedule. Number formulas that are meant to solve PT.X transportation problems can be written in terms of linear programming methods. From the stages of collecting, processing data and testing formulations using the LINDO application, it was discovered that under ideal conditions there are 9 alternative transportation routes from origin city B to destination city TJ with the shortest time of 9 hours. The delivery of transportation mode uses 12 tanks with 9.5 tons capacity and 17 tanks with 8 tons capacity and the lowest transportation expenses are Rp. 487.580. The results of the general mathematical formulation can then be used to solve transportation problems for other cases with similar conditions to PT.X. This mathematical formulation can be used for making decisions in selecting transportation routes, selecting modes and transportation costs. Changes in production factors such as capacity, number of orders, travel time, delivery distance, fuel prices, and toll rates can change the decisions made by entering their actual values in the general mathematical formula that has been produced.
