Abstract

Abstract

Progressive decline in pulmonary function can be unveiled by shortness of breath and lower physical ability, and decreased life quality among COPD. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Upper Limb Exercise with Respiratory Muscle Stretch Gymnastics for lung function and quality of life in COPD patients. A quasi-experiment design (pre-post test with control group design). 50 respondents participated, divided into two groups at Airlangga Hospital and Bangil Regency Hospital, Indonesia, with consecutive sampling. Data were collected by a spirometry test for lung function using the COPD Assessment Test (CAT), subsequently was analyzed by employing aired T-test and MANOVA test. Treatments were given three times a week for a month. The outcome showed that the treatment group increased lung function with FEV1 value and quality of life before and after the treatment with a value of 0.000 (p<0.05), but the control group was otherwise. There were lung function and quality of life values with MANOVA of 0.011 (p<0.05). Upper Limb Exercise with Respiratory Muscle Stretch Gymnastics improve lung function and quality of life among COPD patients to complement pharmacological therapy.

Abstract

Background. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that can exacerbate depressive symptoms due to increased symptom burden complications that lead to functional impairment and decreased quality of life. People with T2DM are twice as likely to experience loss of physical function, and decreased physical fitness and strength than people without T2DM. Physical effort is an integral part of programs for disease prevention and management. Physical fitness, depression status, and quality of life have not been specifically evaluated and described after training in these two environments.  This article aims to find and review land and water-based physical exercise intervention research as an alternative solution to improve physical fitness, depression status, and quality of life of T2DM patients. Research Method. Descriptive analysis method. Systematic reviews were evaluated using the PRISMA checklist. Database: Scopus, Science direct, Pubmed, CINAHL, and ProQuest. Article search with the PICOS framework. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal as an alternative to assessing the risk of study bias. Findings. The 25 articles that met the inclusion criteria consisted of 18 (Randomized Control Trials) and 7 (Quasy-experiments). Consisting of land and water-based aerobic classifications that are useful in the physical and psychological aspects of T2DM. Conclusion. There is an influence of land-based and aquatic physical exercise on physical fitness, depressive status, and quality of life in T2DM patients.

Abstract

The new normal era brings people new habits, one of which is wearing masks. The particulate respirator N95 mask (N95 mask) is the mask with the highest filtration, but there are some complaints regarding its use, one of which is difficulty breathing. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether there is an effect of using an N95 mask on oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiratory rate (RR) and pulse rate (PR). This study uses a convenience sampling technique with a sample size of 60 respondents. The research design used was a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre and post-test design. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test with p <0.0001, which means that there are differences in the results of SpO2, RR, and PR before and after using the N95 mask. Suggestions for health workers and policymakers in Indonesia to be able to apply the maximum hours of using N95 masks so that health workers avoid illness, disability, or discomfort which can maintain optimal performance.
