Abstract

ABSTRAK Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) dan Program Mahasiswa Wirausaha (PMW) bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kemampuan soft skill dan aspek afektif, kognitif, dan psikomotor para mahasiswa. Program ini memberikan manfaat bagi para mahasiswa dan institusi. Banyak upaya telah dilakukan oleh Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni (FBS) Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) dalam meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas PKM dan PMW. Namun dari data yang ada, kuantitas dan kualitasnya yang ada hingga saat ini masih sangat kurang. Dalam penelitian ini, penyebab kekurangan PKM dan PMW di FBS Undiksha diselidiki. Metode ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Delivery, and Evaluations) diterapkan dari data yang diperoleh melalui metode wawancara dari 91 siswa FBS Undiksha. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada penyebab utama partisipasi dialami oleh para mahasiswa ketika bergabung dengan PKM dan PMW. Ada beberapa kendala yang dihadapi oleh para mahasiswa, seperti kesulitan dalam mendapatkan informasi tentang PKM dan PMW, pengumuman program yang mendadak, kesulitan dalam mendapatkan ide dan menulis, kesulitan dalam mendapatkan dosen pembimbing, dan kesulitan untuk menemukan tim.Kata-kata kuci: Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM), Program Mahasiswa Wirausaha (PMW), soft skill. ABSTRACT Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) and Program Mahasiswa Wirausaha (PMW), or student creativity program and student entrepreneurship program are to develop soft skills and student aspects such as affective, cognitive, and psychomotor. The program provides benefits for both students and institutions. A lot of efforts have been conducted by Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni (FBS) Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) in increasing the quantity and quality of PKM and PMW. However, the quantity and quality are still a deficiency. In this study, the deficiency causes of the PKM and PMW in FBS Undiksha was investigated. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Delivery, and Evaluations) was applied from the obtained data through the interview method from 91 students of FBS Undiksha. The results showed that the primary cause of deficiency was experienced by the students when joining the PKM and PMW. There were several obstacles encountered by students, such as the difficulty in getting information about PKM and PMW, the sudden announcement of the program, the stress in getting ideas and writing, the stress in getting the supervisors, and the difficulty to find the teams.Keywords: student creativity program, student entrepreneurship program, soft skills

Abstract

This study aims to develop learning materials in the form of books for restaurant students at Apollonia Hotel School Denpasar. The method of the current study is Design and Development. In developing the learning material, this study uses the DnD model by Richey and Klien. There were several processes carried out, namely identifying learning materials needed; developing learning materials in the form of books; and evaluating the results of material development. The results of the study found that there are eight types of material that need by restaurants students namely procedure of handling cleanliness, maintain kitchen and restaurant equipment, renewing local knowledge, provide a link between kitchen area and service area, provide gueridon service, provide silver service, provide food and beverage service, and provide room service. The results of expert tests showed the score of the learning material developed is 85 which belongs to good category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of deixis by using Levinson’s theory, find out the dominant types of deixis, and the reasons behind the uses of deixis by foreign and local English teachers. The study used a qualitative method particularly a case study. The data sources of this study were the foreign and local English teachers’ utterances. The data were obtained through a classroom observation and interview technique. The data were analysed using Miles and Hubermans’s interactive model. The findings showed that five types of deixis were found in the foreign and local English teacher’s utterances, namely person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The dominant types of deixis in both the English teachers’ utterances were person deixis.  The reasons behind the uses of deixis were also explained in this study

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the university student engagement in the use of online discussions in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Context in North Bali. Moreover, it was used to analyze university student limitations and supporting factors in the use of online discussions as part of blended-learning. The university student engagement was determined by Schlecthy’s theory of student engagement level. The result showed that the university student engagement in North Bali referred to the Ritual Compliance Level. They have low attention and no commitment in learning. They tend to learn dependently and work only for the sake of compliance. Besides, six factors were limited and five factors were supported them during the learning process through online discussion. Therefore, lecturers were suggested to create a pleasant learning atmosphere by building a good relationship with students in order to make students engaged in the online discussions.

Abstract

This research aimed at (1) identifying teacher’s cognition towards online learning; (2) identifying the implementation of online learning; (3) identifying the consistency of teacher’s cognition and implementation of online learning; (4) identifying teacher’s perception toward online; (5) identifying students’ perception toward online learning; and (6) identifying parents’ perception toward online learning. In collecting the data, questionnaires, interview and observation checklist analysis were done. The result showed that (1) the teacher had high cognition towards online learning; (2) the teacher did several preparations and there were some procedures applied in online learning in remote learning context; (3) teacher’s cognition and the implementation were consistent; (4) The teacher perceived online learning positively; (5) the students perceived online learning positively with some surprising information from the open-ended questionnaire which was in different side from the closed ended questionnaire; (6) the parents perceived online learning in a balance view at first but the open-ended questionnaire stood on negative side.

Abstract

English is one of international language which is taught widely in various countries in the world. Entering millennial and industrial 4.0 era, English has important role as the function of English is as a tool or media to communicate with other countries and it is also as language of science, technology, social-economy, culture, and art. Communication Accommodation Theory which consists of communication accommodation strategies are very important to accommodate the students in teaching learning activity. This research aimed at analyses types of communication accommodation strategies are used by teacher when teaching Basic English and the motive of implementing communication accommodation strategies by the teacher Classroom Interactions. Subjects of this research were two the English teachers. This research was designed in qualitative research. The data were collected through voice recorder, interview and documentation. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study revealed that there were four strategies used in teaching learning process by the teacher such as approximation, interpretability, discourse management and emotional expression. Moreover, the teachers had some main motive to apply these strategies such as to make the students understand, give clear explanation to students and get the students’ attention.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop learning media in form of video using screencast application named Active Presenter to help students learned English during COVID-19 and to increase their vocabulary skill. In developing the learning media, Design and Development (D&D) method proposed by Richey and Klein (2007) was applied in this research. There were three instruments used to collect the data, they were interview guide, questionnaire, and expert judgment. The subject of this research was students from SMK Negeri 1 Bangli in Bangli regency North Bali. The result showed that the learning media was highly relevant to the eleven criteria of a good learning media in form of video and was also categorized as a good media. Thus, the learning media in form of video was an essential media to be used to help students learned during COVID-19 as well as to increase vocabulary skill.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out teaching strategies used by English teachers in an online learning. The subject of this study is English teachers at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. This study was qualitative research which uses a case study research design. The methods of data collection were observation and interview. This study used three instruments such as observation checklist, questionnaire, and interview guide. The findings showed that English teachers at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja used learning by doing and learning by reflection in the online learning. Four English teachers were considering about aspects of learning by doing and learning by reflection. Besides, during the online learning, it was found five obstacles. The English teachers were also provided the solutions for the obstacles.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the kind of speech act used by pre-service teachers and students of SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja in WhatsApp as learning media. Investigate the most dominant speech act used by pre-service teachers and students, and analyze the kind of instructional function used by the pre-service teachers. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is the pre-service teacher and students in SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja. The data were collected through observation and interview. The data from the observation was collected using an observation sheet which developed from Searle’s (1969) theory of speech act and Johnson’s (1997) theory of instructional function. The interview has been done semi-structured using an interview guide. The result shows that the pre-service teacher use four speech act in the learning activity; representative, directive, commissive, and expressive. The pre-service teacher uses directive speech to act dominantly to make the students active in the learning process. Meanwhile, the students use four speech act, including representative, directive, commissive, and expressive. The students use representative in dominant to be active and getting feedback in the learning activity. The kinds of the instructional function used by the pre-service teacher are control, organize, and motivational. It was found that the directive speech act functioned as control. Commissive functioned as organize. And expressive as motivational function

Abstract

People's thoughts on a particular topic were represented through language style. This study aimed at investigating kinds and functions of language style that students use when giving presentations on YouTube. There were a total of 15 students who took part in the study. A descriptive qualitative design was used in this study. The observation sheet and table classification of the types of language styles were used as research instruments. The findings revealed that concrete word (14%), abstract word (32%), general word (4%), specific word (4%), and scientific word (10%) were used in the language style based on diction. Meanwhile, antithesis (10%), repetition (10%), climax (12%), and anticlimax (4%) were among the language style based on sentence structure. Abstract word and climax made prominent appearances in both classifications, according to both data. The functions of the language style were expressive (18%), directive (43%), referential (17%), metalinguistic (7%), and phatic (15%). It suggested that directive had the most prominent expressions.
