Abstract

This research examines the influence of visual comic media on student learning motivation based on different genders. The study applies visual comic media to investigate whether there are differences in learning motivation between male and female students. The activities were conducted at SD Negeri 1 Malaka, North Lombok Regency, involving a total of 45 students. The research utilized a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test design within a single treatment group. The instrument used was a motivation questionnaire based on the ARCS model, covering aspects of attention, relevance, satisfaction, diligence, self-reliance, and self-confidence. The analysis results indicate significant differences in the attention and diligence aspects. Furthermore, female students showed higher motivation compared to male students. These findings indicate that demographic factors such as gender influence responses to learning media such as visual comics. This suggests a need to consider gender factors in the design of visual learning media to achieve maximum effectiveness in learning, particularly in enhancing student learning motivation.

Abstract

Otodectes cynotis is a parasitic mite frequently identified in the external ear canal of cats, where it causes otitis externa and severe pruritus. Environmental conditions, hygiene standards, and animal management practices influence the prevalence of this mite. The present study aimed to assess the detection rate and prevalence of O. cynotis infestation in cats presented to veterinary clinics in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara. A total of 63 cats from three clinics (A, B, and C) were examined between November and December 2024. Earwax samples were processed using the native method with a 10% KOH solution at the Parasitology and Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Mandalika University of Education. Microscopic examinations at 10× and 40× magnifications were conducted to identify O. cynotis based on morphological characteristics. Among the 63 cats examined, 22 (34.92%) were found to be infested. The prevalence rates were 40.74% at Clinic A, 29.17% at Clinic B, and 33.33% at Clinic C. These results demonstrate a moderate to high prevalence of O. cynotis among cats in Mataram City. Routine ear examinations, enhanced hygiene practices, and regular antiparasitic treatments are recommended to reduce infestation rates and improve feline ear health. Abstract

Developing students’ numeracy literacy is an important goal in science education, particularly for understanding environmental phenomena that require data interpretation and quantitative reasoning. However, classroom learning often provides limited opportunities for students to analyze environmental issues using scientific evidence and numerical information. This study aimed to develop ASICC-based student worksheets integrating Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on environmental change topics to strengthen students’ numeracy literacy. The study employed design research using a development study approach based on Tessmer’s formative evaluation model, consisting of preliminary study and formative evaluation stages, including self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation, and field testing. The participants were 36 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Prambon. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and expert validation sheets and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The validation results indicated that the developed worksheets were categorized as valid to very valid, with scores of 73%, 98%, and 93% from experts and practitioners. Learning activities structured through the ASICC stages encouraged students to analyze environmental issues, interpret data, and formulate evidence-based solutions. These findings suggest that ASICC-based worksheets integrated with SSI have the potential to strengthen students’ numeracy literacy in environmental change learning.

Abstract

Environmental literacy is essential for students to comprehend environmental issues and sustainable behaviours that can help reduce negative environmental impacts. This research is motivated by the low environmental literacy of students, which is attributed to schools not providing direct learning experiences for students to interact with the environment. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of students' environmental literacy by applying conservation-based PBL (Problem-Based Learning). The research sample consisted of 104 students from SMAN 1 Lembar selected through purposive sampling. The research method employed a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach. Environmental literacy tests used test instruments adapted and modified from the Middle Schools Environmental Literacy Survey with indicators of knowledge, cognitive abilities, and attitudes. Data were analyzed using t-test calculations and n-gain. The research results show that conservation-based PBL is efficacious in improving students' environmental literacy based on (1) a significant increase in students' environmental literacy scores at α = 5%, (2) moderate n-gain scores, and (3) there was no difference in n-gain for all groups. Therefore, conservation-based PBL can be considered an alternative for teachers to enhance students' understanding of environmental issues while preparing them to adapt to ongoing climate and environmental changes

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Project-Based Ethnopedagogical Learning (PBEL) based on local wisdom in enhancing students’ critical literacy. Local wisdom, which has long been part of the community’s cultural identity, is viewed as having the potential to serve as a contextual learning resource capable of stimulating higher-order thinking skills. The study used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design involving 69 Grade X students from two intact classes selected through purposive sampling at SMA Negeri 4 Mataram, Indonesia. Class X-6 (35 students) received PBEL based on Lombok local wisdom, while Class X-7 (34 students) followed conventional learning. The PBEL intervention integrated project activities with the exploration and revitalization of local wisdom values through culturally contextual learning tasks. The critical literacy instrument was developed based on the indicators of interpretation skills, analysis skills, inference skills, evaluation skills, and self-regulation skills. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA and Least Significant Difference (LSD) tests to examine the effectiveness of the treatment. The results showed a significant class effect on posttest critical literacy after controlling for pretest scores, F = 93.010, Sig. = 0.000, partial η² = 0.585, with a higher adjusted mean in the PBEL class (86.78) than in the conventional class (65.36). These findings indicate that PBEL offers practical novelty by transforming local wisdom into project-based inquiry and reflection activities that strengthen both cultural identity and critical literacy. This study implies that local wisdom-based PBEL can be adopted as a contextual instructional strategy for critical literacy development in Indonesian secondary education.
