Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the misconceptions of 10th-grade high school students in the Sambas district on the concept of motion during a pandemic which is an evaluation of the teaching and learning process of physics during the pandemic (Covid-19). The method used in this study is a survey method with descriptive data analysis with the subject or sample in this study of as many as 223 10th-grade students, consisting of 4 schools with cluster sampling. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the students' misconceptions are still experiencing confusion. If two objects have the same position, they should have the same velocity; and if the two objects have the same velocity, the student assumed that these two objects must have the same acceleration or vice versa. However, students are able to distinguish which ones are scalar quantities and which are vector quantities. As for impetus material, students assume that if an object has a motion, it must have a force acting upon this object. This is a contradiction with newton's first law. Also, it is believed that if the object moves in a circular path, a circular (impetus) force tends to move this object in its path. The highest misconception is in the concept of kinematic about velocity-position and concept of impetus. There is no different in student misconception before and after pandemic covid-19 so that in the future it still needs to improve physisc learning process and physics teacher competence to prevention student misconception. Keywords: misconception, motion, post-covid19

Abstract

This research examines the ESD competency levels—specifically systems thinking, anticipatory thinking, and critical thinking—among pre-service physics teachers within ethno-socio-scientific content, aiming to equip future educators with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to promote sustainability and address global environmental and social challenges. A quantitative approach was employed, with a sample of 83 pre-service physics teacher students from a Physics Education program at a university in Aceh, Indonesia. This research instrument consists of eight multiple-choice questions for each competency. Validity and reliability analyses, using the Rasch model, confirmed the instrument's robustness, yielding high-reliability scores (person reliability = 0.82, item reliability = 0.84, Cronbach's alpha = 0.85). The results reveal variations in competency levels: anticipatory thinking is the strongest, critical thinking is the least developed, and systems thinking is moderate. Correlation analysis indicates positive and moderate relationships among the competencies, highlighting the importance of integrated ESD competency development. The success of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) requires a holistic approach that fosters the development of all relevant competencies. Prioritizing critical thinking is essential, as it is a foundation for enhancing other competencies. Educational systems should focus on cultivating systems thinking and anticipatory thinking, as these are interconnected and mutually reinforcing in the transformation toward sustainability. Additionally, the findings suggest that the comprehensive integration of ESD into the physics education curriculum can enhance pre-service teachers' capacity to engage effectively with sustainability issues. By incorporating ethno-socio-scientific contexts, this approach deepens the ethnic, social, and contextual relevance of physics concepts, thus preparing future educators to address sustainability challenges.

Abstract

The enactment of Law Number 1 of 2022 concerning Financial Relations between the Central Government and Regional Governments (HKPD Law) forced regional governments to limit regional employee spending excluding teacher allowances allocated through Transfers to Regions (TKD) to a maximum of 30% of budget expenditures. The HKPD Law was required to be implemented no later than 2027 to ensure maximum employee spending obligations were met. This situation was faced by the Payakumbuh City Government, where the proportion of employee spending before the enactment of the HKPD Law, in 2021, was still at 46%. This situation did not change after the enactment of the HKPD Law in 2025. The portion of employee spending to total APBD expenditure in 2025 was 52%, an increase of 6%. An interesting research question was what factors triggered the increase in the portion of employee spending to Payakumbuh City APBD expenditure, and what efforts needed to be made. The study results indicated that the portion of employee spending to total APBD expenditure was projected to be insufficient to meet the maximum percentage of employee spending to total expenditure. Research data showed that of the 52% of employee spending in 2025, after deducting additional teacher income and teacher allowances, it was 46%. This figure was still far from the target of 30% of employee spending. Therefore, efforts were needed to reduce the portion of employee spending to total regional expenditure,In addition, the central government needed to evaluate policies.

Abstract

Assessment practices in secondary science and physics classrooms often emphasize scoring rather than generating actionable evidence of students’ understanding. This challenge becomes more urgent under the Merdeka Curriculum, which positions assessment as an integral component of learning. To address this need, this study aimed to develop and validate a teacher guide module for UbD (Understanding by Design)-based science assessment for junior and senior secondary levels by operationalizing backward design and the six facets of understanding into practical procedures, templates, and worked examples. Using a research and development approach with the 4D model (Define–Design–Develop–Disseminate), the module was produced through needs analysis, curriculum and literature review, and iterative drafting. Content validation was conducted by three validators using a four-point relevance scale, analyzed with feasibility percentages and Aiken’s V complemented by Score (Wilson) confidence intervals. Practicality was examined through a limited pilot involving three science teachers who applied the module and completed a five-point response questionnaire. The results showed high feasibility across usefulness, practicality, conceptual accuracy, and language/visual design. At the same time, item-level content validity was strong (Aiken’s V = 0.78–1.00) with conservative lower confidence bounds indicating at least moderate validity for all items. Teachers reported uniformly positive perceptions, with perceived usefulness rated highest (M = 4.83), although implementation of the Explanation facet was relatively more challenging (lowest item mean, M = 3.67). This study’s novelty lies in providing a step-by-step, facet-based assessment design guide that explicitly links learning objectives, acceptable evidence, and analytic rubrics within a single teacher-ready resource. In conclusion, the validated module is feasible and practically promising as an evidence-centered tool to strengthen alignment between curriculum outcomes and assessment in secondary science. The module contributes to physics education by supporting teachers to design authentic, rubric-based assessments that better capture students’ scientific reasoning and conceptual understanding.
