Abstract

Lexical variation is the different use of lexicon as a linguistic element in particular language. There have been many researchers who conducted an analysis of lexical variation in dialects of minangkabau language. However, there is no study about lexical variation which analyze the lexical variation in Maninjau and Tiku subdialect. Thus, this research aimed to analyse the lexical variation in Maninjau and Tiku subdialect. The data is 200 words taken from swadesh list and 34 other basci words. The data is collected from the native spaker from different villages or kanagarian in these two area. This study aims to find out the lexical similarities and lexical differences. Furthermore, it used a simple calculation of dialectometric technique to determine the percentage of dialect differences. This research is a descriptive study with qualitative approach. The result of the findings shows the number of lexical similarities is higher than the lexical differences. It is found the 152 similar lexicons and 82 different lexicons. From the calculation of dialectometric technique, it is found the percentage of lexical differences 34%

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study was to identify the types of figurative language used in the lyric of Saif Adam songs and the dominant types of figurative language found in the lyric of Saif Adam songs. The method used in this study is a descrptive qualitative method. This research used the theory of Perrine. The researcher found 8 types of figurative language used in Saif Adam’s song lyrics such as hyperbole, irony, metaphor, personification, simile, litotes, metonymy, and paradox. The data were collected by reading the lyrics of Saif Adam’s song. There were 14 of hyperbole, 3 of Irony, 20 of metaphor, 11 of personification, 10 of simile, 5 of litotes, 10 of metonymy, and 7 of paradox. This study found that the most dominant type of figurative language was metaphor with the percentage of 25%. It was followed by hyperbole with the percentage of 17.5%. Then, it was followed by personification with percentage 13.75%,. simile and metonymy with the percentage of 11.3%. And also it was followed by paradox and litotes with the proportion of 7.9% and 5.6%. Irony was the least dominant one with the percentage of only 3.4%.Key words :  Semantics, Figurative language, Song, Religious Song, Lyric.

Abstract

The study deals with violating maxims by the sellers and the buyers in traditional markets of Pasar Raya and Lubuk Alung. The objectives of the study are to find out how sellers and buyers do violation maxims in their transactions in traditional market Pasar Raya and Lubuk Alung and to identify the differences and similarities of violation of  maxims between traditional market Pasar Raya Padang and Lubuk Alung. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were the utterances between sellers and buyers from 21 conversations each traditional market. The data were collected by recording the conversations. There were 108 utterances that violated the maxims used by sellers and buyers traditional market Pasar Raya while in traditional market Lubuk Alung there were 106 utterances that violated maxims used by sellers and buyers. The implications of violating maxims that used by sellers and buyers were to show closeness and become the part of their purpose how they do transaction each other, how they attract the customers, and how they get a deal in bargaining transaction.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) menganalisa sejauh mana novel ini merefleksikan aberrasi (2) menunjukkan kontribusi elemen fiksi (karakter dan seting) dalam mengungkap aberasi dalam novel ini. Data penelitian ini adalah teks tertulis yang dikutip dari novel dan yang konteks yang terjadi pada novel ini. Kutipan teks tersebut kemudian diinterpretasi dan dianalisa berdasarkan teori simulacra yang dikemukakan oleh Jean Baudrilard, teori Self Deception oleh Brian McLaughlin dan representasi oleh Ladesma. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tindakan dari jurnalis dan masyarakat telah menyimpang dari kebenaran yang semata-mata hanya untuk mendapatkan keuntungan secara materi.   Kata kunci: aberration, truth, code ethic, journalism

Abstract

AbstrakTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membandingkan pelanggaranmaksim-maksim prinsip kerja sama dalam dua jenis genre filmyaitu film aksi “Charlie’s Angels” dan film bergenre drama “ThePacifer”. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mendiskripsikan maksimapa saja yang dilanggar dalam dua film tersebut. Sumber datadikumpulkan dari skrip kedua film dan fokus analisis pelanggaranmaksim ditujukan pada karakter utama film tersebut. Dari hasilanalisa, karakter-karakter utama dari dua film tersebut melanggarseluruh maksim, yaitu maksim kuantitas (quantity), kualitas(quality), hubungan (relevansi) dan maksim tindakan (manner).Pada film aksi “Charlie’s Angels”, terjadi 53 macam pelanggaranmaksim yang terjadi pada tiga karakter utama. Maksim yang palingbanyak dilanggar adalah maksim kualitas, dengan persentase35.85% , diikuti pelanggaran maksim kuantitas 18.87%. setelah itu,pelanggaran maksim relevansi dan tindakan sebanyak 22.64%.Sedangkan pada film drama “The Pacifier”, terjadi 48 pelanggaranmaksim. Maksim yang paling banyak dilanggar adalah maksimkuantitas, sebanyak 37.5%. Pelanggaran maksim relevansisebanyak 25 %. Pelanggaran maksim kualitas dan maksim tindakanmemiliki persentase yang sama, yaitu 18,75%.Kata Kunci: cooperative principle, maxim violation, action movie,drama movie

Abstract

Makalah ini bertujuan untuk (1) Mengidentifikasi tipe-tipe pertanyaan, (2) Pola-pola pertanyaan yang digunakan oleh guru-guru Tiji Homeschooling terhadap siswa penyandang Asperger. Kemudian, (3) juga mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis tanggapan dari siswa penyandang Asperger terhadap pertanyaan-pertanyaan dari guru-guru tersebut. Makalah ini mengambil 5 kali rekaman dialog antara anak penyandang Asperger dengan guru-guru ketika proses belajar mengajar sebagai data, yaitu ujaran- ujaran yang termasuk ke dalam rogative. Dari hasil penelitian, terlihat adanya 430 pertanyaan dimana jenis direct rogative dengan jumlah 373 (86,7%) yang paling banyak digunakan dan jenis indirect rogative tidak langsung 57 (13,3%). dari pengelompokkan jenis pertanyaan, ditemukan sebanyak 372 (86,5%) information-seeking question, 47 (10,9%) information-checking question, dan 11 (2,6%) clarification question, guru banyak menggunakan information-seeking question. Kemudian, juga ditemukan jenis-jenis tanggapan sebanyak 112 tanggapan yaitu absurd response (AR) 18 tanggapan, odd response (OR) 62 tanggapan, more relevant but not very polite (RnP) 6 tanggapan, dan marginal response (MR) 26 tanggapan dimana odd response paling banyak muncul sebagai tanggapan terhadap pertanyaan guru-guru. Data ini menyimpulkan bahwa jenis tanggapan odd response prioritas muncul dalam tanggapan-tanggapan oleh siswa, yang berumur enam tahun, dengan gangguan Asperger tersebut yang menunjuukkan mengalami masalah dalam memahami pertanyaan-pertanyaan (language comprehension disorder) dari guru-guru Tiji Homeschooling.

Abstract

AbstractPenelitian ini membahas presuposisi (praanggapan) dalam film “HarryPotter and the Deathly Hallows part 2”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmengungkap jenis dan makna presupposisi dalam ujaran oleh penutur (HarryPotter) dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori yang diajukan olehYule (1996) mengenai tipe pra anggapan dan Searle dalam Levinson (1983)mengenai fungsi bahasa untuk menganalisa data. Data diambil dari ujaran HarryPotter. Data dikumpulkan secara deskriptif dengan memperhatikan kontekssehingga makna presuposisi pragmatik dapat diungkap.Dari 54 data, penulis menemukan 5 tipe pra-anggapan yang dikemukakanoleh Yule, yaitu pra-anggapan eksistential 18 ujaran (existential presupposition),faktif 21 ujaran (factive presupposition), struktural 10 ujaran (structuralpresupposition), leksikal 4 ujaran (lexical presupposition) dan konterfaktual 1ujaran(counterfactual presupposition). Tipe pra-anggapan yang dominandigunakan adalah pra-anggapan faktif (factive presupposition). Penulis jugamenemukan 4 fungsi bahasa yang disampaikan oleh Searle, yaitu fungsirepresentatif 32 ujaran (representative function), direktif 11 ujaran (directivefunction), kommisif 8 ujaran (commisive function) dan ekpresif 3 ujaran(expressive function).Kata kunci: Presupposition. Abstract

English is used by many non-native English speakers from all around the world. Because of that, the mother tongue influences when they speak foreign language or their second language. Thus, this research analysed the error of English vowels pronounced by Korean Speaker based on phonetic and phonology. This research used descriptive method which according to this research means collecting language symptoms in the form of words. The data were collected from a Korean Drama entitled Descendant of the Sun in several episodes in a form of words. To obtain data, this research used listening method which listened directly by the researcher and then validated by a native speaker. The finding shows that there are six monophthongs and three diphthongs of English vowel which are incorrectly pronounced by the Korean Speakers. Those errors are /ə/, /e/, /eɪ/, /æ/, /ɑ/, /ʊ/, /ɪ/, /iə/, and /oʊ/ which are substituted by /ɛ/, /o/, /ɪ/, /ɔ/, /ʌ/, /u/, /ɪə/, /ɪ/, /ɛʌ/, /ɑ/.

Abstract

Quotes are written for various types. There are quotes motivation, advice, love, religion, humor and trend. Then, quotes intended for female, male and female-male. This study analysis the transitivity in Instagram quotes made by mr. amarisoul. This study aims to find out the differences of transitivity between quotes for female, male and female-male in Instagram quotes made by mr.amarisoul. This study used the theory by Halliday & Matthiessen, Systemic Functional Linguistics as Ideational Function. There are three elements of transitivity, those are processes, participants and circumstances. The data in this study were clauses in quotes. The source of the data is quotes from account mr.amarisoul in Instagram from September to December 2021. There are 306 processes that found in 46 quotes. The dominant process that appears in quotes for female is relation process 37%. The dominant process in quotes for male is mental process with 30.3%. Then, the dominant process in quotes for female-male is material process with 54.5%. The research concludes that relation process is the most dominant process that commonly appears in quotes. The dominant participants of relation process are carrier, attribute, token and value.  Based on this research, the researcher found that the quotes intended for female and male have different process. Quotes female use relation process and quotes male use mental process. Quotes have implications that can encourage and inspire people to take actions that make change in their lives.

Abstract

ABSTRACTKurnia Yahya, Hafiz. 2023. “Analysis of Word Formation in Slang Words Find The Movie Big Daddy ”. Thesis. Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni. Universitas Negeri Padang.This research aims to find slang words and word formation processes used in a film script. Then, this research uses descriptive method. The data used is the Big Daddy film script using the Yule Theory. Researchers found 256 slang words and there were 71 data that had been found and identified. Then, the researchers found that there were five types of slang formation used from the Big Daddy film, namely coinage, blending, clipping, compounding, and borrowing. The researcher found that the dominant type of slang word used was Coinage.
