Abstract

ABSTRACT Patient-centred care has different dimensions, necessitating a clear definition to facilitate consistent measurement and evaluation of patient-centred care in clinical settings. This systematic literature review aims to identify and compare measuring tools related to patient-centred care in clinical settings. The Prisma framework was employed to explore six databases (i.e., Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Springer, MDPI, and Sage Journal) for literature review in identifying instruments used to measure patient-centred care in clinical settings. Result Of 13 articles included in this review, 13 articles documented different questionnaires measuring patient-centred care. These questionnaires included The Person-centred Primary Care Measure (PCPCM), Person-centred maternity care (PCMC), Chloe's-Card, Korean version of the Person-centred Care Assessment Tool (K-P-CAT), Health Education Impact Questionnaire (HEI-Q), Patient-centred Matching (PCPM), Quality of Interactions Schedule (QuIS), Person-centred Critical Nursing Care Scale, Patient-centred Quality of Cancer Care Questionnaire (PCQCCQ), Patient-reported Experience Measures (PREMs), Patient-centred Survivorship Care Index (PC-SCI), and Vietnamese Patient-centred Care measure (VPCC). Each instrument had different criteria according to the patient's background and contextual setting. Existing questionnaires have engaged various perspectives in measuring patient-centred care and distinct adjustment to the patient's condition. Some of the reviewed instruments were modified from existing instruments to meet particular settings. Keywords: Measuring, Patient-Centred Care, Clinical Care, Instruments

Abstract

The quality of a nurse’s work life is the degree of satisfaction regarding personal and organizational needs based on experience in a work organization. A nurse with a dual role is the nurse who acts as a mother and a professional nursing staff at the same time. The purpose was to determine differences in the quality of female nurses’ work life in gender and nursing perspective at Balung General Hospital and Kalisat General Hospital in Jember Regency. The research method uses a comparative study with a quantitative research type. The sampling technique in this research is random sampling with a total of 115 samples. Data collection was conducted by using questionnaires about the quality of nurses’ work life from the nursing perspective and questionnaires conflict with women’s dual role from the gender perspective. Data processing using the Mann-Whitney analysis test with a 95% significance level (α=0.05). The results using Mann-Whitney analysis showed that there is a difference between the gender perspective and the nursing perspective (p=0.000). The mean results showed that the nursing perspective () is higher than the gender perspective (). The conclusion shows that the quality of female nursing work life from the gender perspective needs to be improved. The hospital needed to review further regarding work schedules and shift time; the family needed to provide full support and good cooperation; and female nurses themselves must also have good coping control, time, and energy management. Apart from that, it is necessary to have a policy from the room head and team leader regarding the distribution of schedules for female nursing staff without reducing the feeling of unfairness for male health workers.

Abstract

Nurses with an altruistic attitude should prioritize the patients' interests over their own and strive to care for the welfare of others. This significantly affects the level of workplace violence among nurses, where violence in the workplace is a prevalent issue in the nurses' work environment. This research aims to analyze the relationship between nurses' altruism and the level of workplace violence among nurses in hospitals in the agro-industrial area of Jember district. This study employs a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 178 nurses. Data collection involved an altruism scale questionnaire and a workplace violence questionnaire. The research utilizes the Kendall Tau-C test. The research results revealed that 84.8% of respondents exhibited a high level of altruism, and 64.6% of respondents displayed a low level of workplace violence. Both variables show a p-value of 0.008 (p-value < 0.05), indicating a relationship between nurses' altruism and the level of workplace violence. This study shows a negative correlation value of r = -0.159, indicating a weak correlation. The lower the nurses' altruism attitude, the higher the level of workplace violence among them. The nurses' altruism attitude significantly influences patient assessment; the better the patient assessment provided by nurses, the lower the occurrence of conflicts.

Abstract

Background: Continuity of Care (CoC) plays a vital role in managing chronic illnesses by ensuring consistent monitoring, coordinated services, and a strong therapeutic relationship between patients and healthcare providers. Evidence suggests that CoC enhances treatment adherence, reduces hospital readmissions, and improves long-term health outcomes. However, understanding of this concept particularly among adolescents with chronic conditions, which remains limited. Purpose: To identify the key attributes, antecedents, and consequences of CoC in the context of nursing care for patients with chronic illnesses, with particular attention to adolescents. Method: Rodgers’ evolutionary concept analysis was employed through a literature review of studies published between 2019 and 2024, guided by the PRISMA protocol, and sourced from Scopus, PubMed, and Sage databases. Results: The main attributes of CoC include informational continuity, relational continuity, management continuity, access to healthcare services, referral systems, discharge planning, cross-service and multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient and family empowerment. Antecedents comprise both enabling and inhibiting factors. The positive consequences of effective CoC are improved quality of life, reduced hospitalization frequency, and increased readiness for independent self-care among adolescents. Conclusion: CoC is crucial to achieving successful long-term care outcomes. Suggestion: The concept of CoC should be integrated into nursing education and training programs, along with the development of care models that focus on adolescents living with chronic conditions.   Keywords: Continuity of Care; Chronic Illness; Patients. Kata Kunci: Continuity of Care; Penyakit Kronis; Pasien.

Abstract

First-year students encounter academic, social, and emotional challenges that can impede their adjustment capacity. Inadequate adaptation frequently precipitates academic procrastination, which detrimentally affects academic achievement. Effective adjustment plays a significant role in mitigating task delay tendencies. This study examined the relationship between self-adjustment and academic procrastination among first-year Bachelor of Nursing students at Universitas Jember. This study employed a cross-sectional correlational design. A total of 168 first-year students were selected via total population sampling. Data were collected from April to May 2025 using the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire to measure self-adjustment and the Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students to measure academic procrastination. Data were analyzed using Spearman-rank Correlation test with a significance level of ? = 0,05. Findings indicated that 72,6% of respondents exhibited a moderate level of self-adjustment, while 70,2% demonstrated moderate academic procrastination. Correlation analysis indicated a statistically significant result p-value of 0,000 (p 0,05). A correlation coefficient (r) of -0,503 indicated a moderate-strength and negative relationship. The results of the study showed a moderately significant relationship between the two variables of self-adjustment and academic procrastination with a negative correlation, meaning that the higher of self-adjustment, the lower of academic procrastination. Students with effective self-adjustment abilities tend to complete tasks more efficiently, thereby reducing their tendency to procrastinate. Self-adjustment is not the only factor influencing academic procrastination, other related factors also contribute to the persistence of procrastination behavior during the developmental stage of first-year students. Other variables and factors that influence academic procrastination in new students can be examined for further research
