Abstract

This article deals with the marketing strategies of halal certified products by Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) amid the rising middle-class Muslims in contemporary Java, Indonesia. These SMEs’ entrepreneurs compromise of the middle-class Muslims who are particularly concerned with fashion industries, snacks, and beverages with halal-certified label. Taking into account Benefit Opportunities Cost Risk (BOCR)-Analytic Network Process (ANP) as an approach, this article tries to identify both the proliferation of halal-certified products and the dominant mixed-factors in marketisation of halal products, including the marketing strategies used by SMEs. This article concludes that promotion—both conventional and digital—is widely essential, besides the product, price, and place aspects. Along with the rise of the middle-class Muslim in contemporary Indonesia, the commodification of religious symbols through halal-certification is one important factor that encourages the production of Muslim middle-class economy in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Before purchasing shares on the stock exchange, potential investors and investors need to measure the performance of the stock portfolio of companies listed on the stock exchange to identify the level of return to be received and whether the level of return is comparable to the risk borne to maximize the return. Along with the development of the Islamic sector in Indonesia, the stock exchange is filled with conventional stocks and Islamic stocks owned by companies that operate based on Islamic principles. Some researchers have different opinions regarding which stock performance is superior between Islamic and conventional stocks. This study aims to measure the performance of stock portfolios in Islamic banking and conventional banking and then compare the performance of both. This study used samples of conventional commercial banks such as BPTN Bank, Bukopin Bank, and CIMB Niaga Bank. At the same time, Islamic Commercial Banks were BPTN Syariah Bank, Panin Dubai Syariah Bank, and Bank Syariah Indonesia. The research methods used to measure stock portfolio performance are the Sharpe Method, Treynor Method, and Jensen Method. The study results show that the performance of the stock portfolio in conventional commercial banks using the Sharpe index, Treynor index, and Jensen index for 2021 to 2023 is superior to that of Islamic commercial banks.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the teacher’ and students’ gestures, and the function of the gestures in an online EFL classroom. The researcher applied a qualitative research design. The subject of research was 9 students, 2 teachers in the English Department, and an expert in expression. The research instruments were passive participant observation, interview, and documentation. The result of the research revealed that both the teachers and students used gestures. Teachers applied speech-independent and speech-related gestures. The speech-relate gestures were clenching, pointing, and raising hands. In contrast, the speech-independent gestures were nodding with nothing to do with what she was explaining. However, students’ gestures were often invisible on the screen due to the constraints of limited screenshots. The function of gestures was to substitute words and instruction. Additionally being mindful of their gestures can send mixed signals or unintentionally convey negative emotions or attitudes. So, all teachers must consciously use gestures to support their message. The study’s novelty lies in its focus on the online EFL classroom context, a relatively unexplored area in the field of language education research. By examining the specific strategies used in an online setting, this study provides new insights into the role of N-VC in virtual learning environments. This is particularly relevant given the increasing reliance on online education due to recent global events, making the findings timely and applicable.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explain the Islamic economic thought of Abu Hanifah on the Bai' As-Salam contract in online buying and selling transactions in the marketplace. The analysis method is carried out qualitatively with literature studies, data is collected through books, journals, or publications relevant to the problem. The study results show that Abu Hanifah was an Islamic thinker during the Umayyad Dynasty. Abu Hanifah's Islamic economic thought, namely the Bai' As-Salam Contract, aims to minimize disputes between sellers and buyers by setting detailed and clear conditions in the contract such as price, time, place of delivery, quality, type of commodity, quality, and quantity. In practice, the Bai' As-Salam contract in Indonesia is permitted based on the Fatwa of the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council in 2000 concerning the sale and purchase of salam based on the Qur'an, Hadith and Ijma'. The Bai' As-Salam contract carried out online and offline is halal and permitted as long as there aren’t elements of usury, monopoly, injustice, and fraud. Meanwhile, payments via Cash on Delivery and E-Wallet Fiqh muamalah as long as it doesn’t conflict with Islamic law.

Abstract

Globalization has an impact on the development of international trade, which can increase market share. In addition, in foreign exchange trading, currency is not just a transaction tool but also a commodity traded in the foreign exchange market. The study aims to analyze arbitrage and interest rate parity on its implications for foreign exchange investors and speculators. Secondary data used in the study were obtained from books, national and international edited journals, news, and working papers conducted by a literature review. It is found that unstable economic conditions, increased inflation, and speculators can increase the volatility of exchange rate imbalances in the foreign exchange market. exchange rate differences can be utilized by arbitrageurs and will naturally move towards efficiency. However, the enactment of purchasing power parity implies indifferent behavior to invest domestically or internationally because the returns obtained are not greater than domestic. In addition to maintaining foreign exchange stability, intervention policies are needed through controlled floating exchange rates, interest rate policies, maintaining liquidity and capital flows carried out by monetary authorities and central banks, as well as reducing import dependence and increasing exports

Abstract: The halal industry trend continues to grow because it is influenced by the increasing population of Muslim communities with increasing income as well as increasing economic growth. East Java has enormous potential as a center for developing the halal industry. However, there are quite big challenges because there is no master plan for developing the halal industry, halal certification is not yet optimal with many halal products, there is no infrastructure available, limited educational, training and research facilities related to industry, halal logistics and halal industrial areas and a lack of professional and competent human resources. Using the Analytical Network Process (ANP) method. Finding priority problems where generally halal industry human resources, namely MSME players, still have a narrow mindset; MSME players still lack knowledge regarding halal certification of their products. Meanwhile, the priority finding of the solution is to improve the qualifications of MSME human resources using technology to meet halal product standards and product diversification. The next strategic priority finding is the strategy for strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as the main driver of halal values. Abstract

This study aimed to explore how 8th-semester English Education (PBI) students at IAIN Parepare conducted a semiotic analysis of the song A Million Dreams, performed by Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams, and to understand their perceptions of the educational values within the lyrics. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research involved 30 randomly selected students as participants. Data were collected through interviews and voice recordings. The findings revealed that students identified various types of semiotic signs in the lyrics: one lyric represented an icon, six were categorized as indices, and three were recognized as symbols. Regarding educational values, students highlighted several moral lessons conveyed through the song. The values identified included religiousness (1 student), responsibility (6), hard work (13), friendliness (4), appreciation (1), creativity (11), love for reading (7), environmental awareness (2), peace (2), independence (4), curiosity (2), and discipline (2). These responses suggest that A Million Dreams contains a wide range of educational messages that resonate differently with each student, with hard work and creativity being the most frequently recognized. The study underscores the song’s effectiveness in communicating positive values through music and lyrical content.
