Abstract

Abstract

Voltage stability analysis is needed in the planning or operation of electric power systems. This will have an impact on decreasing the system voltage and result in a voltage collapse and will be fatal resulting in a partial or total system blackout. If there is a change in load on a line, it can cause a decrease in the voltage profile. Predicting the value of additional load on a bus based on a voltage stability analysis can be done to detect the occurrence of a voltage drop. There are various methods for analyzing voltage stability, one of which is the point of voltage instability which can be determined using the Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) method. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is chosen in this problem to predict the value of the additional load.

Abstract

The installation of a solar energy generation system is being carried out to increase the use of renewable energy. This research is on the availability of many solar pandies behind the equator and requires banks. The Solar Power Plant (SPP) design results in the Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) Balikpapan Permai bank building have shown good potential to be implemented even in changing climatic conditions. The SPP system has a total power higher than the total power consumption in the BNI bank building, with a power consumption of 33 kW. In comparison, for the SPP system in November, the power was 50,78 kW, and the power generated in December was 5,696 kW. This means that the BNI office receives an electricity surplus of 12,696 kW - 17,78 kW, with a total power of 9,8 kW from solar modules used.

Abstract

This research addresses the problem of temperature fluctuations affecting the efficiency of solar panels. A cooling system has been developed using a Peltier and a combination of air- and water-cooling methods. The air-cooling system involves placing a Peltier coated with a heatsink under the solar panel, while the water-cooling system uses pumped water on the panel's surface. The study aims to design a solar panel cooling system to reduce temperature and power losses and compare its output to standard solar panels. The system includes a Peltier, DC fan, and heatsink. Results indicate that the air-cooling system reduced temperature losses on the bottom milk of solar panels by 14.5%. However, the surface of solar panels showed no reduction in temperature losses. Additionally, solar panels with cooling systems were able to reduce power losses by 4% compared to standard solar panels. This research suggests that the use of an air-cooling system utilizing Peltier as the cooling medium could be a potential solution to reduce temperature losses and power losses on solar panels.

Abstract

The development of power electronics converters has been widespread in the industrial, commercial, and home applications. The device is considered to produce harmonics in non-linear loads. Harmonics cause a decrease in power quality in the electric power system. To prevent a decrease in power quality caused by harmonics in the power system, the detection of harmonics has an important role. Therefore, this paper proposed feed forward neural network (FFNN) for harmonic detection. The design of harmonic detection device is designed with a feed forward neural network method that it has two stages of information processing, namely the training stage and the testing stage. FFNN has input harmonics and THDi as output. To detect harmonics, frst training is conducted to recognize waveform patterns and calculate the fast fourier transform (FFT) process offline. Prototype using the AMC1100DUB current sensor, microcontroller and display. To validate the proposed algorithm, compared by standard measurement tool and FFT. The results show the proposed algorithm has good performance with the average percentage error compared by standard measurement tool and FFT of 5.33 %.

Abstract

This research endeavors to increase the lifespan of a battery utilized in a standalone microgrid system, a self-sufficient electrical system that consists of multiple generators that are not connected to the main power grid. This type of system is ideal for use in remote locations or areas where the grid connection is not possible. The sources of energy for this system include photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, diesel generators, and batteries. The state of charge (SOC) of the battery is used to determine the amount of energy stored in it. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is applied to minimize energy generation costs and maximize battery life. The results show that battery optimization can decrease energy generation costs from Rp 5,271,523.03 ($338.64 in USD) to Rp 13,064,979.20 ($839.30 in USD) while increasing the battery's lifespan by 0.42%, with losses of 7.22 kW and 433.29 kVAR, and also a life loss cost of Rp 5,499/$0.35.

Abstract

Muscles are an important organ in the movement of the body's skeleton to carry out sports activities. Measurement of muscle activity during the exercise process can be done using electromyography (EMG). This research uses Myoware muscle sensor (AT-04-001) which is integrated with Arduino Uno and Xbee to monitor biceps brachii muscle fatigue wirelessly. Fatigue data processing is carried out objectively using the envelope and sliding window method and subjectively verbally from the respondents. From this study, it was found that muscle fatigue can be measured using the method objectively when there is an increase in EMG amplitude with a window size of 5 s. The indication of biceps brachii muscle fatigue for the right arm is stronger to withstand the load during exercise with the average duration of the measurement of the right arm is 41.87 s from 69.67 s; 53.53 s from 98.90 s and 76.87 s from 98.80 s with the ratio of the left arm tending to fatigue more quickly is 23.53 s from 42.13 s; 41.87 s from 51.60 s and 23.53 s from 44.73 s.

Abstract

The oscillation of frequency can cause the generator to run out of sync in a power system. Therefore, load frequency control (LFC) is needed to reduce frequency oscillation and prevent out of sync operation. The LFC regulates the governor to balance the turbine speed with changes in the load of existing. In this paper, a proportional integral differential (PID) controller and a battery energy storage system (BESS) are added to an LFC to improve the frequency stability of a power system. The parameters of the PID controller and BESS are optimized using the Bat algorithm (BA) to attain a good coordination. The frequency performance analysis is done by introducing disturbance in the form of changes in load power. The simulation results show that the frequency deviation of the system with the PID controller and BESS, has a faster settling time and smaller overshoot value. The system performs better than those with only the PID controller or the BESS. In conclusion, the BA algorithm can be used to find optimal parameter values of the PID controller and BESS for a synchronized coordination of an LFC.

Abstract

The ball-wheeled robot relies on a camera for receiving information on the object to be followed. Object tracing is one of the methods that can be used for detecting object movement. In recognizing objects around it, the robot requires an image analysis process that involves visual perception. Image processing is the process of processing and analyzing images that involves visual perception, and is characterized by input data and output information in the form of images. This is how the robot can see objects around it and then be assisted by computer vision to make a decision. The object tracking method with hue-saturation-value (HSV) colour filtering and shape recognition with circle hough transform (CHT) is applied to the ball-wheeled robot. The front vision of the robot uses HSV colour filtering with various test values to determine the thresholding value, and it was found that the ball could be identified up to a distance of 1,000 cm. To further improve the performance of recognizing the ball object, CHT was applied. It was found that the ball could be identified up to a distance of 700 cm. Furthermore, the ball can be identified in obstructed conditions up to 75%.
